I think it is a Garage Queen. @34:49 "we should be driving our cars". I don't think your car is ever driven, looks like it is straight off the production line, there is not even road dust or dirt and not even corrosion on the fasteners which you would get if driven on the street because you can not always avoid puddles or construction dirt
A flat 6 Boxster was my dream car and I found a 2006 - 987.1 Boxster S last year and it exceeded my expectations. To this day I can't believe it's more than 15 years old, it's perfectly balanced in every single way. Also, it can be a quiet and smooth ride, but it can also transform into a powerful animal above 4,000 RPM - best of both worlds.
Yeah, hate to see it. I’m trying to find one with neglected paint & fogged headlights so I can pick up a real cheap Cayman standard as a daily. Throw a wrap on it and be done.
Fantastic presentation , I'm a 2008 Base cayman owner of 6yrs I've never watched such a great detailed video on these vehicles, making me feel very honored to own my car . Bravo , thank you
That was terrific! 43 years ago I got my first car, a ‘74 MG convertible. Kept it four years and wanted another convertible ever since. Three years ago after a considerable search I found a tremendous upgrade from that MG…an ‘08 987.1 Boxster S. What an awesome introduction to Porsche for me and my family as well as a joy to own and drive. Thank You Nathan and team for your super hip and informative primer on a wonderful part of Porsche lineage.
Great comparison. So many unicorns even in the entry level models. My 2006 Boxster has the P04 Sport Package with PASM and the 6 speed manual. At autocross events it’s the one thing that makes my car unique as I’ve never seen another 987.1 with the option.
My 2006 has the P04 option as well. It took me a while to realized how very few other base 987.1 Boxsters or Caymans have it. At first I thought that the six-speed gearbox was standard.
Fantastic video. I love my new-to-me 981 GT4, but I haven't had more fun than I had in my 987.1 and 987.2 Caymans that got me introduced to Porsche sports cars. The mid-engine cars are just so easy to get in and go fast around a track in! I thought I knew a lot about these cars, but most of the info presented about the special editions was new to me. Very well done (and the sandals are great!).
My first Porsche was a used 2008 Boxster S RS 60 Spyder. Absolutely loved it! After two rough winters where it barely made it out of the garage, I traded it for a Macan GTS. Love the Macan, but really miss the Boxster.
Wow! Thank you for putting this together Just picked up a 162k miles 987 2006 Boxster base for $5k. It had a minor accident but for the price I couldn’t say no
Nathan, thanks for showcasing these awesome 987's! I respect that you know volumes of specifics which are used to judge rarity and condition but never choices.
We love our 2.7 Base 987 with a set of 911 turbo wheels and a full exhaust upgrade and tune on it and boy is it fun to drive and drift the back end around corners
In 1969 I bought an Austin Healey 3000. I drove that for eight years and then it sat in a garage for almost 40 years. I always dreamed about fixing it up but never did. I sold it a few years ago. One of the reasons I sold it was that I purchased a 2006 Boxster S. As much as I loved my Big Healey, I now love my Boxster more. I know that it is unfair to compare them because of the age difference, but I'll do it anyway. The overall performance of the Boxster over the Healey is overwhelmingly better. The handling is much superior and I can't find the words to describe the difference in driver comfort. Driving the Healey back then was great, but driving my Boxter today is greater. The only advantage of a Healey over a boxster is that I could work on the healy. Straight six where everything was easily reachable and located where I expected it to be. I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I have never even seen my flat-six Boxster engine let alone work on it. I wouldn't know where to begin. That is progress I guess.
As a new prospective buyer for a 987 Cayman, this video was so educational for me as it pointed out all the features and quirks of all the models. Thanks you for this video. So if one wanted something in the limited realm, 2008 would be the only year with the "special" editions, if you can find one lol. I think my hunt has just gotten more complicated or selective I should say as I now know much more than before watching this video. Invaluable knowledge that any beginner Porsche buyer will benefit from. Btw,Your green Porsche is beautiful. 👍❤
2.7 5 speed is all you need for the pure porsche experience - the 987.1 is the best classic look in my opinion and in the UK a budget of £10k will get you a wonderful car - excellent video by the way !!
Here in Norway 987.1 cost 30.000 to 40.000 £$€ ;( . Meaning it is a lot to save to buy in another country and pay the 25% sales tax (+ some small additional tax) and import it yourself.
Great video Nathan! I owned a 2007 base Cayman and loved it…it had to go unfortunately, because I needed a family car (BMW 520i Touring 2018). Only 1 week later I found myself looking for a Cayman again, I missed the car so much already. It took me almost 2 years to find the Cayman of my dreams, a 987.2 S 2012, last build year, low milage, black…. I will never sell it, love it so much and it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it, which is daily. Please do a review on the 987.2 as there is much to find on RUclips on 987.1, but so little on the 987.2.
My first Cayman was a Base 2.9 987.2 and I found the engine increase, PDK and interior upgrades worth the search for a good second hand Porsche. 2 years to find a good car that I could afford in cared for condition. Puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it. Your green 987 is better than new and I can not keep my Cayman in that condition, well done, that's if you use it? I don't take my Porsche out if it's raining but have been caught of course.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the info. We much rather you enjoy your Porsche and drive it instead of trying to keep it in the best possible condition.
I like how much credit you gave base models. They're just as fun as S and great to customize with the extra cash you saved from buying the S. Good to use for a while and then upgrade.
As a very proud owner of a 2007 base Cayman 987.1 5 speed it was truly a pleasure to listen to Nathans flawless presentation of these amazing cars, seamlessly tied in with the flowing photography of Mike (who also did an amazing job editing this video). To anyone reading this that is thinking about buying a First Generation Cayman I can honestly tell you don’t hesitate. Of course find the best example of the one “that speaks to you” and you’ll never look back. I think these cars are absolute works of art from every angle (I particularly love the rear quarter side view… those haunches over the wheels are incredible) and when I’m behind the wheel shifting gears I NEVER listen to anything but the fantastic symphony from the 2.7 flat six, right behind my seat. Not that it matters but everyone from 10 year olds to 80 year olds have complimented me on my car several times every time I take her out. It’s a perfect daily driver and has LOTS of storage space. I live in Ottawa, 🇨🇦 so unfortunately I will be storing her for the winter come November 1st… however it makes May 1st of each year something to really look forward to. The timeless design by the great Visionary Pinky Lai makes this car never look or feel dated at all. Just an all around fantastic driving experience!
The best review/talk about the 987 I’ve seen👍. I have a 2005 Boxster, sport design sports exhaust, 20” wider wheels and it drives superb despite the dreadful British roads😂
Peter - I’ve watched this video three times. You could be a life coach for guys in our age bracket. Disposing of all the “stuff” and focusing on the hobbies I really love is sage advice. Looks like your next dream car might be a GT4? 😊
Love the shout out for the rear wiper option on Caymans - it is one of the few options my 981 Cayman does not have but for mine, they link the car to the 901 series 911s - a rare option here in Australia!
Nathan - a big fan and you didn't disappoint with this video. Nice to see you directing your considerable insight to the 987.1. Your green model is a peach!
Thanks for watching, hope you learned something. A PCA staff member has a 2007 Cayman 5-speed and loves it. We hope you have your own soon! There are several videos about the car and some of the adventures its been through and mods on our channel.
Nathan, could you ever do a podcast on repairing/renewing the wear and tear of the thin leather on leather on full leather trims? Mine is getting spotty. You are the best on Porsche cars👊🏼. Thank you!
That warehouse!!!😮 Was this video shot in Heaven? 😊 Can never get enough of Nathan and his Porsche knowledge. It’s always an education. Suggestion - How about Nathan holding an open air forum at Werks Reunion Amelia Island next year?
This video made my day! These videos inspire all my Porsche videos, so thank you! The Paint to Sample like selection just make this a perfect delight!!
Superb video! Thank you for sharing these fantastic cars with everyone, I am fortunate to have a 2006 Cayman S that the original owner optioned nearly everything available. It was delivered to Brumos in Florida and had only 17K when he (Cayman) found his "forever home" with us. I just returned from a quick roll after dinner and what a joy to drive...ahhhh yes. I really love your Green Cayman S - it's beautiful! Again, well done on the video and thank you sir.
Great video, great information. I've had my RS 60 for just over one year now, and absolutely LOVE it. Love your selection of cars, especially the special edition cars.
Yes but it also give you a horrible glear when then red color is reflected in the window on a sunny day, best to go with just simple black to avoid that disturbing glare...
I'm new to this channel and PCA, and I'm loving this content. Thank you for such a thorough review of the 987s, honestly my favorite generation of the Boxter and Cayman
Okay... 🤯Mind blown by your knowledge of this vehicle! I have to know, how you have a 2008 vehicle that looks like you could eat off the floor pan on the roadside! It's incredible!
Once again, nice seeing the 987 love from PCA. Great video, it would be nice to see an in depth available options follow-up, (sport/standard steering wheels, unusual trim), and perhaps even desirable after market additions. I also saw the "Brazilian Tree Frog" at Werks reunion last year,...it's growing on me!
I was a 987.1 geek back when I had my 2008 Cayman. Used to do FAQs on 987.1 equipment on the Planet-9 website (which began as "Cayman Club" about 2006 or so). I am sure it's still up on their website if you wanted to look. I joined the site even before I ordered my first Cayman (which was also my first Porsche) and it offered a lot of guidance on the best-value options (sport steering wheel and the sport-plus seats were for sure the best values for the money as opposed to deviated stitching, leather-covered steering column, etc). It allowed me to have a base model in a nice color combination that was nicely equipped but not crazy with options.
You can get rubber bumpers that fit the top your curved Jack stands they have flat tops or lugs that fit into the oval shape in the Porsche Jack point. If the handbrake works only on the back wheels it’s safer to lift the front wheels first.
I noticed you questioned why there were less sales in 2008. Notice too the 987.2 had slow sales in its first year, the world was just recovering from the 2008 financial crisis, nobody was out leasing boxters and caymans, so less are here to buy in the used market.
Hello Nathan, Now that’s a great and informative review. It’s absolutely stunning how pristine the cars featured here are. I’m a proud owner of an 987.1 base Cayman, which I’ve bought in Stuttgart from an very caring owner and am fascinated every time how incredibly good the car handles and sounds. Thanks for this great video. Greetings from Germany, Jürgen
Glad you liked it! We appreciate your support. It is always our pleasure to provide you with an awesome content. Happy to hear you are enjoying your Cayman. Greetings from National PCA Office, Happy Holidays!
Outstanding content! I'm not even in the market for one of these cars at the moment, but I enjoyed every minute of this presentation. As an original owner of a 2000 986 S, I would enjoy seeing Nathan conduct a similar talk on the 986 line. (I searched the channel vids and I don't believe this has yet been done.)
I've been dreaming of these cars since they were new and I was in high school. Last year when my truck needed some suspension work, I wanted to rent one on Turo but there weren't any, so I rented an NC (06-15) Miata instead. That car was so spectacular I ended up buying one. Very very happy with my Miata. Now I'm giving these Porsches the side-eye and wondering if a Boxster might be even better. I know it'd be faster and more refined - I couldn't care less. What I'm looking for is a more engaging and enjoyable drive. If someone made a single-seat mid-engine 140hp 2-stroke convertible with no power steering, I'd buy four of them. Since that doesn't exist (and since MR2s kill people) I'm after the closest thing I can get.
Greeting from Thailand, great video. I have MY 06 987.1 Cayman S in Arctic Silver/Terracotta with similarly equipped interior as the RS60! Love it to death
No.1 tell tale on the S / Base is the front centre radiator vent 👍 I maybe wrong but didn't Porsche put larger wheel arches into the 987 after the 986 to accept bigger 19" rims....but then only offer 19" rims as an option. The SportDesigns are maybe the nicest Porsche wheel of this era😍
Great job!!! I can only wish my 07 S with 114k on looked as clean. I am ok with the shorts and sandals, it is the information i'm looking for. I might suggest having a beer out:)
What a thorough and enjoyable video! I loved that macadamia Cayman S. The interior is perfect. I could never see the top of the shift nob to see if it is a 5 or 6 speed.
fantastic info. I have just put down a deposit on a 2006 Cayman S, non chrono, standard part leather fully electric seats in GT Silver. having a PPI next week and a bore scope, i hope it comes back as all clear - test drives were fabulous and man that engine note is lovely. fingers crossed :) ... ps. i want to know what you don't know about Porsche - to make it easy i am sending you a stamp so you can write all down :)
Great video! Very well done presentation and camera work. Love the various colors and options presented. Definitely hope you will follow with a similar Boxster 981 video!
As the owner of 2 996 (a C4 996.1 & a 996. 2 C2) coupés, decided that boxers were a great handling, more than powerful enough cars, but just not 911s. It was the only 911 I was willing to pay for, the others are crazily expensive... For me, the Cayman might have been a decent alternative, but I wanted a 911...
I'm glad you can take a joke, great informative video. I'm looking at a 2001 porsche boxster cabriolet 2d1ith 144K miles in great shape for only $7k@@PorscheClubofAmerica
I’ve got a 2007 Boxster S. Great car with minimum tech to get in the way of the driving experience.
same here
Samw!
Same third!
Didn't think I could learn anymore about my 987.1 thank you! And when you went under your green car my jaw hit the floor. Absolutely flawless.

Major props to the camera person. Well filmed.

I’m trying to find one with neglected paint & fogged headlights so I can pick up a real cheap Cayman standard as a daily. Throw a wrap on it and be done.
The quality Nathan and PCA put out is top notch. Would love to have a Cayman from this era.
I’ve had a 987.1 Boxster for some time. What a terrific driving car.
Agreed!
Thanks for covering the 987 here. Seems to be an overlooked model in much of PCA content.

I really love your Green Cayman S - it's beautiful! Again, well done on the video and thank you sir.

Excellent video. Love your cadence. Love your tone I learned a ton. Thank you.
Excellent information! Looking to buy my first Porsche and considering the 987 Boxster/Cayman.
Glad it was helpful! Good choice. Make sure to reach out once you become an owner. We would love for you to join our club.
Great video, great information. I've had my RS 60 for just over one year now, and absolutely LOVE it. Love your selection of cars, especially the special edition cars.
Thanks for watching! RS60 is the OG Boxster Spyder.
Love my 05 987.1 S so much fun to drive. Smiles for Miles. PCA is the way to go... Great video.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it. Thank you.
That red interior is crazzzzyyyyyy. The green painted one too... awesome video
It really is! Thank you for watching.
Glad you enjoy it! Be sure to subscribe.
I remember the sales guy telling me if this doesnt sell porsche will be in real trouble

I'd love to see you guys make an episode on the 997.2 911 and all its interesting variants
I'm sure we'll cover the 997.2 in one of these videos. Thanks for the suggestion!
If you do make such a video on the 997.2, make sure it includes the Brumos b59.
This video is very informative. I wonder if they never drive these cars, they look brand new.
Beautiful car. Love just test drove a 2001 Boxster S. Amazing.
Congratulations on the win. Love the Zagato. I wish I'd bought that one 30 years ago. Prolly be rust by now mind. 😊
The Porsche dealership i worked at special ordered almost every car on the lot !
Awesome video, Nathan and gang!
Glad you enjoyed it. Be sure to subscribe.
Thanks for a great tutorial. Love to see all those WA plates and local PCA badges.
I noticed you questioned why there were less sales in 2008. Notice too the 987.2 had slow sales in its first year, the world was just recovering from the 2008 financial crisis, nobody was out leasing boxters and caymans, so less are here to buy in the used market.
Hello Nathan,
Now that’s a great and informative review.
It’s absolutely stunning how pristine the cars featured here are.
I’m a proud owner of an 987.1 base Cayman, which I’ve bought in Stuttgart from an very caring owner and am fascinated every time how incredibly good the car handles and sounds.
Thanks for this great video.
Greetings from Germany,
Jürgen
Glad you liked it! We appreciate your support. It is always our pleasure to provide you with an awesome content. Happy to hear you are enjoying your Cayman.
Greetings from National PCA Office, Happy Holidays!
Outstanding content! I'm not even in the market for one of these cars at the moment, but I enjoyed every minute of this presentation. As an original owner of a 2000 986 S, I would enjoy seeing Nathan conduct a similar talk on the 986 line. (I searched the channel vids and I don't believe this has yet been done.)
Glad you enjoyed it!
The boxster s Cayman s had extra radiator cooling on the right side bumper cut out for extra radiator!

No.1 tell tale on the S / Base is the front centre radiator vent 👍
I maybe wrong but didn't Porsche put larger wheel arches into the 987 after the 986 to accept bigger 19" rims....but then only offer 19" rims as an option. The SportDesigns are maybe the nicest Porsche wheel of this era😍
Awesome summary, well done.
Thank you kindly! Be sure to subscribe.
Great job!!! I can only wish my 07 S with 114k on looked as clean. I am ok with the shorts and sandals, it is the information i'm looking for. I might suggest having a beer out:)

Bought a 08 Boxster S because of this video
Congratulations!
What a thorough and enjoyable video!
I loved that macadamia Cayman S. The interior is perfect. I could never see the top of the shift nob to see if it is a 5 or 6 speed.
Glad you enjoyed it! Be sure to subscribe.
You are very good at your job sir. What a treat this video is. I assume youve done the same with the 981’s? I suppose I can search. 😊

Not yet :)
Love that Macadamia colour, beautiful
It really is!
fantastic info.
Wow what a video! Thank you so much for producing this.
Great video! Very well done presentation and camera work. Love the various colors and options presented. Definitely hope you will follow with a similar Boxster 981 video!

Fantastic video! Super wild and cool spec on your Cayman too!!

Interesting tidbit - the order option guide you showed says "United Sates..." vice United States...

All these beautiful works of art and then those flip flops.
LOL
I'm glad you can take a joke, great informative video. I'm looking at a 2001 porsche boxster cabriolet 2d1ith 144K miles in great shape for only $7k@@PorscheClubofAmerica
