    Nice mods!! Siamese Dream is one of the best albums of the 90s, no jokes. Yeah you have great taste. Caribou sounded amazing on this guitar.

      Daniel Balladares haha that’s awesome! Well hopefully this vid is a decent reference when you get to doing these mods yourself! Gotta say, the jag is super versatile when it has these mods, so it will definitely work well if you go ahead with it! And thanks man, I appreciate the kind words!

    Thanks, I'm now convinced that I don't want humbuckers in my Squier Jag. I like the twangy single original sound.

    Although they do the split coil thing nicely and the single coil sounds good, they don't do justice to the clean tones very well,rails seems to be good for high gain lead tones,but note definition and clarity just gets lost in rhythm playing ,the stock pickup sounds on these guitars is what everyone buys these guitars for,it's hard for me to imagine why you would want to up grade one of these unless you go with better fender pickups,can't beat that special dark tone these guitars are known for.

    • @alexrcowan
      @alexrcowan  3 года назад +11

      Everyone has their different preferences. I don’t think it’s correct to say everyone buys jaguars for their stock tones (this customer clearly didn’t), otherwise fender wouldn’t bother supplying classic player hh jags, cobain jags, blacktop jags etc. If a customer likes their stock single coil sounds, that’s perfectly fine. Wanting humbucker tones from the jag (which is a unique tone owing to the scale length and guitar construction), that’s just as valid.

    I'm hopeful getting a jag soon as iv just started playing to help with ptsd and it has been doing alot so been told to try a jaguar due to finger and back pain all be it slight I do get it so told to go 24 inch so had to be the jag luckily two of my faves are kurt cobain and johny marr so I'm hardly upset I have to rock me a jag but so torn on weather to go jagstang or marrguara new word hope ya like it lol but this bad boy sounds like everything I want man when you played five I was like oh shit that's the lady in my dreams for me has to be burst white at a push but wow sounded immense I wish you was a Yorkshire luthier here in uk or you would be getting many hours work of me even down to the switch mod seen a few do it but yours was the best hands down just epic the offset guy is good but he got some competition from you sir I screenshot them pick up names cos my memory fails me and them are destined to adorn my jag should i get funding a music charity for people with ptsd and war injurys and depression to give them instruments and waiting to hear back if not I'll sell some stuff save up but I'll get one for certain by this time next year only debate driving me mad is to shim or not to shim that good sir seems to be the question and oppinions much like posteriors every one has one they all seem to stink and contradict what say you? I'll give you my uneducated opinion first weather you take 3 hrs sanding wood or 20 mins cutting and slightly sanding the board to get right taper dont matter as much as having one that is nice uniform not thickness but level and has full contact or as much contact as possible with body and neck so I'd say one full size shim cut out am eggbox 1mm exact would be better than the one mill little 1cm brass hobby of Amazon cos we cant get the lovely stew mack ones here and if we do it's like 30 dollars or something but I wouldn't mind but its stew mac not jeff rocket man Bezos so takes a week or two and who wants to wait a week to get ya nervana vibe on already got a ds one a chorus and a cheap sans amp sampler so just need my jag fingers crossed be soon if not I'll get one for shizzle hell have no fury like a man wanting a killer jag I'm sure it said something like that in the bible if not it should I'd go church more and so would you haha much love from uk awesome content subbed and rang ya bell (giggerdy)

    Hi Alex, how did you compared with Seymour Duncan Hotrails and DiMazio Fast Track 2? Which one was more Humbucker like tone? Thank you.

    • @alexrcowan
      @alexrcowan  4 года назад +1

      Anderson Chamberlain they’ve both got a humbucker like tone, would be hard to say which I liked more. I was pleasantly surprised by the FT2, and I thought it was pretty dynamic given its high resistance reading. I think both pickups aim to do the same kind of thing (high output, ceramic magnet, huge mids, big low end) so if you’re looking for that kind of thing either one will work for you!

      alexrcowan Thanks for the answer mate, finally I purchased the Sugar Chakra, it was the latest and hottest rails humbucker from DiMarzio. By the way what's the name of song in 5:57? Thank you.

    How much of an improvement did the mastery make? Thinking about installing one on my squire. Since even after a good setup I'm still getting a little buzzing.

    • @alexrcowan
      @alexrcowan  4 года назад +1

      Huge improvement. Mastery's get much more sustain than the regular bridges can. They have more mass, and make better contact with the bridge thimbles than the stock bridge can for better vibration transference . Whether it will fix your buzzing issues depends on where the buzzing comes from on your guitar. If it's definitely coming from the bridge and has nothing to do with your string or nut action (or your fret seating), then a mastery might be your best bet

    Did this mod to my Kurt Cobain signature and added some pickup covers... sounds and looks too good to care about devaluing a signature model that was basically a mod guitar to begin with. Thanks for posting!

  • @krauz111
    @krauz111 4 года назад

    I am interested in modding an Squier to make it closer to the Kurt Cobain signature, but I am not sure which one would be good to use as a base. Which one would you recommend? I can also do routing and all the new wiring, no problem.

    • @alexrcowan
      @alexrcowan  4 года назад +1

      Carlos Reyes depends on your taste and budget, you can’t go wrong with either the VM or CV Jaguar since you will be changing the pickups, and the bridge at least. Depends whether you prefer blocks and binding for the neck or not. Personally I think a Cobain CV sunburst jaguar would be sick!

      @@alexrcowan Using a 12"radius TOM bridge, do I need to file the slots to adjust it to 9.5" or it doesn't matter? Also do I need a standard bridge pickup or F spaced ?

    • @alexrcowan
      @alexrcowan  4 года назад +1

      Carlos Reyes to get the optimal action it’s worth filing the E string saddles to match the radius, unless you don’t mind having a higher action for those strings. You’ll get a more consistent feel if you match the radius. Since you are getting a Gibson spades TOM you just need standard spaced pickups

    • @alexrcowan
      @alexrcowan  Год назад +1

      Tone is always subjective, the customer wasn’t happy with how the guitar sounded stock as it was too anemic for the things he wanted to play with it. Where you hear muddy, others hear full. Glad you enjoy yours stock!
