  • Honduras's new president, Nasry Asfura, met with US President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, less than two weeks after being sworn into office.
The visit follows earlier meetings with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as part of a diplomatic push to strengthen ties with Washington.
Key topics include countering Chinese influence in the region, ending diplomatic relations with Beijing in favour of Taiwan, bolstering bilateral trade worth nearly $16bn in 2024, and addressing migration and drug trafficking.
Trump previously threatened to cut aid to Honduras if Asfura did not win the election, and recently pardoned former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernandez, a convicted drug smuggler, in a gesture seen as solidarity with Asfura's party.
Al Jazeera's Phil Lavelle reports from Palm Beach, Florida.

    Dear Powerful Leaders and Organisations,
This is a humble message for your kind consideration.
With increasing age, perspectives and priorities can change-so it is important to create space for new ideas, youth leadership, and fresh energy in decision-making positions.
Please stop wars across the world. Let humanity come first.
Common people are suffering and living in constant danger, while a few continue to live luxurious lives. How long will this imbalance continue?
Think about the future. Let us make this beautiful world even more beautiful-where everyone can live together in peace, dignity, and happiness.
Unnecessary violence is unacceptable. If responsibility were given to the youth, we would try to build a world based on peace, cooperation, and mutual respect.
In this modern era, everyone deserves the right to live freely.
Please stop religious, political, and economic violence in all countries, including Bangladesh.
If all nations follow fair and equal rules, discrimination will gradually disappear.
I hope journalists around the world will open their eyes and help move humanity toward unity and justice.
I wish health, peace, and success for all mankind.
    Amen.
    🫶🤝✌️🤲🙏❤️💚🇧🇩🌍
