This is next level drum phrasing. He's either a genius or he's the most disciplined percussionist song writer alive. Soak it in, this is an amazing time for music.
Powerstroke 77 on a 13 x 5 wooden snare, medium high top and cranked high bottom, definitely being compressed a little bit, but there's a guy on RUclips showing how to recreate his snare and its pretty damn close his @ is EliGreenDrums
it's a PA Lovetone fully custom built 13x7 snare solid maple which has massive harmonics and overtones, he uses a cranked remo powerstroke p77 coated (to control the overtones while leaving some thwack) with an ambassador hazy medium-high underneath, i think his snare is a 30 wire set. their sound guy says that the Audix D6 mic does majority of the work for the compression/post processing and whatnot, to the point they use it on almost every piece of the whole kit. but the tone/projection from the snare alone is supposedly 99% his snare and his playing, with no sampling on top if you believe it -- according to sound guy they try to capture as accurate the sound of the kit as they can for each show. I saw this from another video somewhere on youtube with them interviewing the sound guy i think at radio city or somewhere else they played in US recently... that with some clever reverb usage & good live mixing and tuning for the rest of the kit, which is done by his tech Sam Hallett... next level, this guy is, but also his team too! their whole live sound is nailed to a science that ive only heard/seen similarly used live in sound setups done from the more "tech savvy" prog metal / djent bands if that makes sense
Finally figured it out. I love 13x6 personally too, but I believe He straight up takes the wires off the snare to get that sound. I love that, similar to how Danny Carey mostly plays with the wires off, or how Vlad from Jinjer has his own sound too.
Hypnotized by the sound of that snare!😍

@@ericlucci2829 Mike Portnoy's snare on the Train of Thought album is godly
The whole setup sounds amazing cymbals and all the snare is unbelievable
2 is the best, hands down.
Think his snare sound is enhanced at all? Not hating I’ve just never heard a snare drum like that in my life. I freakin love it
