  • How will you sell this pen to me? Can you sell this pen? You often get asked in job interviews to sell me this pen. You may also be asked to sell something else in other interviews.     I still remember 8 years ago I was asked this question. I simply said that a pen is very important to always keep, no matter what. Also, it's a cheap pen, so you are not gonna lose much on this.
    "Objection I got" - I alrdy have a pen, no need now.
    I said - I understand that sir but it's always recommended and a smart choice to keep a backup. Also when it comes very cheap, then there is no harm in it. Backup things generally save us big time and create a good impression.
    "The interviewer understood that I can do sales and learn it on deeper levels. I was just a University graduate and had no experience in sales at all

      Without the experience your sentence framework was good, but you were trying to “sell it to someone who does not need a pen.”
      Most rookie salesman make mistake by selling it to everyone.

      Hi, just a suggestion. I think instead of using cheap, we use minimum cost or budget one. Bcoz majority does not like to buy or associated with cheap products.

    Then i said buy this pen from me i know you’re looking for one
    Then he said why should i buy it from you there are many places from where i can buy
    Then i countered him by saying of course you can buy it from anywhere this pen is available in every shop and store i am offering you pens, notepads & diary on very huge discounts to
    You and your office employees & also we will deliver it at your office.

    This is good. 1) Ask a relevant hook to engage 2) Establish the need for the product 3) Present the solution that clearly addresses the need 4) Objection handling: "need not felt" is the first objection, for which go back to 2) and address specifics. "Too expensive" is the second most common objection, which should never be countered with "but look at all these features". Comparison with competitor prices will only work if there is an urgent need, but even then, sell value. I really liked his upselling the notebook by bundling it as an essential component of the 'knowledge creation" value that was being pitched. This takes talent, but also lots of practice. So ladies and gentlemen, put on your big boy/ big girl pants, go out there, get bruised a few times, and soon enough you will be good salespersons!

      I used this trick.... 2 times.... And face rejections

    Aap apni jagah sahi hai lekin agar aap mujhe ye pen sale karne aate hai to main kahunga ki aapka 50Rs. Ka pen or 85rs. Ki note ki jagah main 10rs. Wala pen or 20rs. Wali notebook le lunga kyu zyada kharch karu. Kaam wahi nikalna hai. Itne me sab dhara ka dhara reh jaega.😅 Isliye bahut se log sale nahi bhi kar pate hai.

    You are first Indian Salesman that I have liked. Knowledge might be western but delivery is Indian, and we are Indians deep down. Jugaad mentality is the area where the west has no answer. Many times people approach just to tell why they can not buy. But frankly I have liked friendly approach.

    Not up to the mark... For any sales like pen best part is to give ergonomic design of the pen, like this will not slip from your hand when you write some important paper or when you sign cheques, it will not hurt your fingers when you use it continuously 15-20min , and show the value of that pen to the user.

    But,
    Itna time aur patience nahi hota hai, nowadays customer are way too smart. Gyaan do ge toh aage se jawwab aayega gyaan mat do.

    Ye sahi hai per sirf ek aspect se jab user ko pata nahni hai ek pen naam ki product exit bhi karti hai to agar aap iss trick main usko bechenge to ye bik jayeega but If he already using a pen which is very good, then this trick is valueless, you need to fast create a better product and then explain them why this is better and it aforable also then it is possible that this pen is going to sell.

    Keeping a Good pen with u is like a good friend ever. Which don't let u down. It's shows ur personality impressive. Makes u confident nd helps in remembering each nd important things by writing with it. U can trust it until along with it.

    This is my story
    I was asked this question
    Sell me this pen
    First i took that pen and walked out through a glass door, where my interviewer's female secretary was sitting(after asking him permission to do so) , and gave her that pen and asked her to write something on a paper, she had a habit of keeping the pen in her mouth while writing, which i had observed while waiting outside for the interview, so she did the same, later i took back that pen inside the interview room and placed it on the table,
    My interviewer didnt even wait for me to say something, he just kept a 500 note next to the pen and took back his pen. I didnt care how much he paid, all i wanted was to sell that pen
    Lesson here is
    If you want to sell, then customer must feel they need it, if they need it they will buy it

    Always hve plan A and plan B with you, sir keep first pen in ur pocket and purchase this second pen ,keep this in bag, if first pen u forget or lost somewhere, there is a Stepney pen in bag

    Poor tactics. It wont work as said in video. Chance is there if it is something emotional and sentimental. Like, it seems ur late father might used this pen, ur cute kid enjoy using this, ur childhood diary writing kind of pen, ur first pen kind of experience in schooling etc

    If someone get this question during their interview in sales industry then please make sure interviewer doesn’t want to see how you can sell that pen. Actually he/she wants to see your skills in sales and ability to get coaches.
    Its rare to pitch the interviewer in the best way but willing to learn from his/her feedback gets you in the company.

    This is pure bookish knowledge!!!!!
    Most sales force team forgets a key element,- i.e. NEED......
    Until you don't address or generate need , sales will never go through...
    Now since we are not at a product development phase, so technically we can't generate need...
    But we need to identify a target Market,who may actually have a major need of the product....
    Imagine putting up a stall in front of an examination hall???

    Sir as per my understanding if a sales pitch starts with probing with a new customer then in more than 80% situations it ends at disagreement so always try to seek his attention first then switch to probing.

      Sir you started well but as per my understanding you should start with the 2nd part of your sales pitch first then you should come to probing. If customer is familiar with you then probing in the first place is good but for an unknown customer probing in the beginning creates negativity most of the time.
      e.g - I, as a sales person meets you & asks you sir do you remember you met someone 2 years back. Then just think what impact I'll make in your eyes. It'll create a confusion in your mind & you may think who is this guy, why he is asking, who is he to ask me this, why should I answer him etc.
      Instead of this if you'll try to seek his attention & create a curiosity in his mind then he'll listen to you.
      e.g - Hello sir I was standing there & I saw you. So if you permit me then may I take 2 minutes of your valuable time if it doesn't bothers you & I assure you that it'll be worthy for you.
      If he permits then start with probing. Sir do you remember ........
