I honestly found this movie to be fun. I myself am more on the democratic-liberal side and they were the ones portrayed as villains, but I wasn't overly offended like most were. Yeah its political, but they didn't take it seriously and just had fun with it.
Betty Gilpin did such a great job in this movie. Loved her character. The story was funny, people should be capable of laughing at themselves. Basically, Crystal May was the only character that did not have a obvious group she aligned with. That is why she survived. The Jackrabbit and the Box turtle story was such a cool variation on the tortoise and the hare as well. She also told it very well. The movie is really just a good time.
@Munt Conkey centrists just means you have both sides bad ideas, not that you see both sides bad ideas. The idea that the best place to be is in the center is dumb as shit especially when some of the most "divisive" arguments have to do with giving people all of their human rights and the other side saying no we shouldn't. There's no "meeting in the middle" when it comes to those topics. We didn't "meet in the middle" when it came to slavery, one side was absolutely wrong.
@Phoenix Funny So, you’re saying that it’s perfectly okay to call out your opponents but not yourselves? One side (your side) must always be exempt because they can do no wrong? You understand that’s how the left has gotten so powerful and brazen, right? Their own side refused to tell them to stop descending into lunacy because they saw the act of pointing out flaws in their own logic as somehow “shilling for their opponents,” or “not taking sides and pussing out as a centrist.” Pointing out issues and flaws on both sides doesn’t necessarily make you a centrist; it makes you an egalitarian realist who wants to actually work to change society for the better rather than a tribalist who lives off of identity politics.
@@gobalbucs wow dude, you got to stretch properly before you reach that far. I'm all for calling out my side. I do it plenty. I'm also smart enough to understand there's a difference between Politicians and the people. Democratic and Republican Politicians are the "two sides of the same coin" because they're Politicians FIRST. I have no allegiance to Democrats or White-Liberals (like the ones in Get Out). But them being crazy and corrupt doesn't change what i believe in. I'd argue that Liberals are more likely to call out their own than right-wingers, Me Too was a big testament to that as well as other things. Wrong is wrong, not just when the other team does it. That being said I stand by my original comment because centrist are still up their own ass when they think being in the middle somehow gives them a 3rd eye and they're not just taking the bad ideas from both sides. Plus, in my experience, when someone says they're moderates or Centrist, they're really just Republicans that don't want to say they're Republican

Great review. It works as an action movie if you're okay with over-top-violence and you're a fan of "Battle Royale" genre movies. The actress that played the deplorable from the Mississippi was awesome.
That was one thing I never understood about the plot that kinda ruined it for me, like it wasn’t true so then when they got accused they decided to make it true? What? Why?
I've been curious to see this movie because the ads I've seen about it didn't really give all that much away. I actually am glad to now know that it satirizes more than just the high society vs. others angle because the whole rich vs. everyone else thing has been done before. I enjoy satire the most when it points the finger at more than just one group, so I think this movie is right up my alley and if anything I want to see it more than I did before from going off the ads alone. :D
I think the Hunt makes a good point to liberals and makes them question their believes in a good way. However, we have to understand that not only liberal are watching the movie, the extreme right (I’m specifically talking about people who act on their belief, hurting other by oppressing minorities, being aggressive and even assaulting someone physically because of their inherent differences) could use this movie and the hypocrisy of the characters in it to justify their actions. In the end the movie just helps to create a bigger divide between people in a society that already has too much of it. So I don’t think the pros outweigh the cons.
Yo! I’m from Dayton and I lived through when that happened so I remember the controversy surrounding this movie so thanks for doing this great review as always to clear up the confusion. I think I might actually check this one out it sounds really interesting and I’m a fan of Emma Roberts and Justin Heartly.
All the comments that say they haven't heard of it blow my mind because it's been one of the only ads I've seen on RUclips for what feels like 8 months
Lol the part when they show the slide show of the black man, the characters were like "um nope". "They are already dealing with alot going on with them "
Satire is needed now more than ever. A modern Mark Twain would be fantastic! But, in lieu of him I'll take what I can get. We live in an extremely polarized and divisive political climate; watching something that takes the piss out of extremism, group think, and those willing to behave violently in the name of political ideology, is fine with me. Maybe this film will be viewed as a warning of the depths to which people will sink when they're so utterly convinced of their moral superiority.
Ryan H Except Mark Twain was no “centrist”. He was very far to what was the equivalent of the extreme left of his time. He mocked religion, he pointed out the crimes of US imperialism, etc. If he was brought back today, like Noam Chomsky, he would be considered so extreme that he would never get even the chance to be heard in the US main stream media.
@@michaeldebellis4202 My point regarding Mark Twain had more to do with his role as a satirist generally, and our need for satirists today, as opposed to what he was satirizing and where he stood politically. Further, his criticisms of "US imperialism" and left leaning disposition would hardly result in his being silenced in modern America. Noam Chomsky has made a career doing just that, and is certainly not being denied a platform. And mocking religion in the western world-specifically Christianity-is about as mainstream as you can possibly get.
@@Pantheragem Agreed. It's not in and of itself political...never said it was. My initial comment was in response to a movie, that is however, clearly a piece of political satire.
ngl, when i saw the trailer for this movie, it looked like something my parents would bring me to see as a kid and tell me that's why people on the right are better... maybe it's just that, but something about this movie isn't sitting right with me. i don't know
I think the movie didn't have a wider message other than both sides suck. It may have made one or two good points but overall the movie was pretty sloppy and way too invested in how the political divide looks on twitter rather than what it can actually look like on the ground
I was more disturbed by Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Gone With the Wind than I was by this film. The most disturbing thing about a movie is when the people making a movie appear to believe that something evil is actually acceptable or good. This film did not have that in any way that I can remember.
IF you want a movie about "hunting people", I'd recommend "Surviving the Game" (1994) with Ice-T and Rutger Hauer and Gary Busey. It starts a little slow but picks up. This was the first movie that I ever saw Ice-T in but not sure if it was his first acting role (and don't feel like looking it up...lol).
My friend and I got into the argument about this movie before it was cancelled last year. He didn't want to see it because it was humans hunting humans. Never mind that he enjoyed watching predators/xenomorphs/whatever hunting humans. Remove the mask to reveal a human hunting humans, it's suddenly because unacceptable. An interesting reaction.
Sometimes the youtube Algorithm isn't shit. Your videos have been auto-playing after pretty much everything I watch for the last week or so. Not complaining, enjoy the content, its just kind a funny.
Haven't seen the movie yet but love the shot at 1:03. Looks like Glenn Howerton is channeling his character from Sunny which is one of my favourite show. This one shot kind of sold me to go and watch the show now. Will have to come back later to watch the rest of the review later.
Just finished watching the movie and it's was a fun movie overall as long as you are not expecting any ground breaking commentary from it. Betty Gilpin was great but the rest of the characters were all pretty one dimensional and most are not even on screen long enough for you to care about. Loved what they did with their best looking actors.
I"m all about political satire and making fun of "your side" but it kind of needs to be accurate. In this case, both sides here (liberals and conservatives) while both can definitely participate in the same things and use the same tactics (like with cancel culture), they are not equally awful or extreme - in reality one side is usually more violent and more prone to conspiracy theories (i.e. the conservative side -- hence white nationalists and racists tending to be conservative). In the US, white nationalist extremism is seen to be the biggest terroristic threat. And for the "left side" they only really included liberals -- no leftists in sight. And also these characters didn't really talk like human beings do; it was as if the screen writer just pulled out a handful of random tweets and just based the dialogue off of that. This movie seemed to be more interested in satirizing strawmen than actual arguments / types of people. I definitley agree with your assessment of the main character tho! She was so badass and honestly the best part of this movie
You're review was pretty spot on, I loved it, I thought it made fun of both sides, if some one was mad their being petty, what I think is so funny is that if they would have gotten the right girl everything would have worked so at the end it's really about someone that had no tie to the left or right of this dispute got put into the middle and kicked ass! Love this movie.
Main message was we all got crazies on both sides. Also...learn to laugh at urself and others (take a joke). But thats been my sense of humour my whole life so it wasnt a lesson for me lol.
I hate when people criticize a movie they've never seen over an article, video or a review. Happened with a Dog's Purpose and I LOVED that movie! It was so good and made me cry like 10 times. TMZ faked a video and said the cast was abusing dogs because the German Shepherd panicked while swimming and ended up going under the water, TMZ cut the video of course and this caused boycotting and tons of hate. If people looked into it more they could have seen what actually happened: the dog swimming was part of a scene, they didn't just throw it in, the dog was trained but it panicked, there were multiple people on set close by to jump in if needed, when the dog went under it only last a couple seconds because someone immediately grabbed the dog and pulled it out. The dog was well cared for and perfectly safe. People who never saw the movie spouted everywhere to boycott the movie and kept raging and saying the movie isn't even good and we shouldn't support a abuse (which I agree with... If the movie had abused the dogs.)
I dont think people realize that the left-aligned working class really dont like the rich liberals. Of course we will disagree with people who oppose our viewpoints, but in the end there is a greater class divide than political divide and that's the injustice we should band together to fight.
This kind of reminds me of "Assassination Nation" - just because of the "controversy" around it and such, even though in that movie they basically called out everyone. I want to see this movie (mainly because Betty Gilpin and Emma Roberts), but not because of the controversy.
the left isnt even visible in this movie. the "elites" are somewhat an indictment of the democratic party (which is our "left" party but they are the far right in your country) even though republicans (the right wing party, which are considered nationalists and fringe-right in your country) and democrats are part of the elite class in the US. its just a lazy analysis of US politics and absolutely does not mean anything to anyone outside of our country
I can't comment as to whether it does it as well, since I don't like bloody movies, but Jon Stewart's Irresistible movie calls out both sides quite nicely.
I was barely listening until you said Emma Roberts Fans will love it, I love Emma Roberts. I had no idea what this movie was or that it existed, thank you
I think the whole confusion with the profile pic went (Justice4Yall is the right Crystal Mae) -> (the elites get "Crystal Mae" from her profile) -> (they search for "Crystal Mae" and find Betty Gilpin). The photo might be from a bad review of her auto workshop (she says she works in an auto dealership or something, and it's got the uniform).
I loved this movie. I loved how it made fun of both sides unapologetically. I also thought it was cool that you didn’t know who the main character was going to be for a while because they all kept dying off lol

I honestly found this movie to be fun. I myself am more on the democratic-liberal side and they were the ones portrayed as villains, but I wasn't overly offended like most were. Yeah its political, but they didn't take it seriously and just had fun with it.
Man, when I saw Justin Hartley woke up with a gag, I was really hoping the movie would take a different turn...
me too waltz
This is why I subscribed to you. I wish there was more utubers like you.
Sounds like the enlightened center is at it again. "Both sides" is really overrated when it comes to real world issues.
@Phoenix Funny
So, you’re saying that it’s perfectly okay to call out your opponents but not yourselves? One side (your side) must always be exempt because they can do no wrong? You understand that’s how the left has gotten so powerful and brazen, right? Their own side refused to tell them to stop descending into lunacy because they saw the act of pointing out flaws in their own logic as somehow “shilling for their opponents,” or “not taking sides and pussing out as a centrist.”
Pointing out issues and flaws on both sides doesn’t necessarily make you a centrist; it makes you an egalitarian realist who wants to actually work to change society for the better rather than a tribalist who lives off of identity politics.
Both side of spectrum is disgraceful, that why the word "extremist" is so negative. 😁
Centricide
Weird fun fact: The director of this movie is one of the co-creators of the Homestar Runner character.
WAT
"The movie that everyone hated but hadn't seen." Well damn, you stole my comment.
I love how you brought up the window fight scene. That has to be my favorite part of this movie
I've literally never heard about this movie till now
“Emma Roberts fans are in for a real treat”
SCREAMING
The best part of this film is the kitchen scene where shes angry that the deplorables would think they would hunt humans down and shes like, but you are though and shes like well we are now.
Some characters and moments just made my eyes roll a lot. Haha.
Oh yeah, a LOT of on the nose comments
Just discovered your channel trawling through You Tube owing to Coronavirus self isolation.Want to say i love your passion & integrity...great work.Thanks.
This movie felt like centrist propaganda
So it was good?
Except there’s no real left, they’re still both liberal.
Another reason in support of the centricide
@@KeybladeMasterAndy no, it's centrist. So that means nothing changed, nothing happened, and nobody was satisfied.
Aaahhh sweet stagnation.
it does xD and just like most people, they confuse liberal with leftist.
I like your movie reviews. Really informs me about movies I planned on skipping, or felt iffy about. This one tho, when I first saw a trailer, my first thought was ‘Condemned with Women’
I must be out of the loop, because this is one of the first videos I’ve seen talking about this movie
"Emma roberts fans are in for a good time" lmaoo
I was searching for this comment😂😂
When the older couple started arguing about NPR I was dying, it's so accurate. But yeah I was the only one having fun in the theater.
Wait, so the main character was accidentally grabbed? That gives me serious “Rachel Ray v. Rachel Roy v. The Beyhive” flashbacks.
Saw the thumbnail and thought, "Oh, does Amanda have a pet pig?"
What? Why?
"OH, and Emma Roberts fans. You are in for a TREAT!" Bahahahahaahahhahaha I died!
I’ll will watch Betty Gilpin in any film she makes for the rest of her career.
I’m going to go watch it and then come back to watch those few minutes of the video I skipped for spoilers. Appreciate the time stamp!
"Wash your hands with soap and water" is such a great outro phrase! xD
If you like Dark comedies with brutal over the top violence with lots of satire mixed in then it's a great watch
I don't tend to believe the hype when it comes to films like this, been burnt way too many times lol.
All the comments that say they haven't heard of it blow my mind because it's been one of the only ads I've seen on RUclips for what feels like 8 months
I feel like this movie called out both sides and made it clear that either extreme is not good
The only sides they portrayed were the establishment "left" and establishment right
Lol the part when they show the slide show of the black man, the characters were like "um nope".
Sarcasm, levity, and satire are concepts being erased from comprehending as we speak. A lot of kids already can't grasp it.
@@HarryPairatestes363 He's basically making my point. Satire is not by definition political.
@@Pantheragem Agreed. It's not in and of itself political...never said it was. My initial comment was in response to a movie, that is however, clearly a piece of political satire.
Shootings in Dayton and El Paso happened right around the original release date.
ngl, when i saw the trailer for this movie, it looked like something my parents would bring me to see as a kid and tell me that's why people on the right are better... maybe it's just that, but something about this movie isn't sitting right with me. i don't know
I think the movie didn't have a wider message other than both sides suck. It may have made one or two good points but overall the movie was pretty sloppy and way too invested in how the political divide looks on twitter rather than what it can actually look like on the ground
@@BigBeatlesFan121 yeah, i get that 100%, it just really doesn't sit right with me, i dunno.
I saw an article talking about and was mortified by the premise. Then I watched the trailer.
Never heard of it.
It's an amusing "Equal Opportunities" lampoon's, for the most part....
0:36 Danger Games lol:))))) Great review!
I don't think my parents understood that this movie wasn't on anyone's side
Also Taken, you're supposed to root for the protagonist who's hunting down the human traffick-gang.
This isn't the Danish film with Mads Mikkelsen. I feel lied to.
I can't believe the director used to work with the Homestar Runner guys in their earliest days.
Betty really made the movie. I was impressed with her acting/fighting skills.
So happy i found your channel
1:33 to 2:19. Thank you! I was like, "Am I the only one realizing this?"
"Emma Roberts fans are in for a real treat" GIRL LMAO, They really had me in the first half...2 minutes...ngl.
I went and saw this with my friends a couple days ago and we had no idea what the main message was?? lmao
Main message was we all got crazies on both sides.
Also...learn to laugh at urself and others (take a joke).
But thats been my sense of humour my whole life so it wasnt a lesson for me lol.
@@VioletIsBulletproof It's not just Democrats or Republicans that are crazy. Both sides are kinda dumb
@@Its_SaberHG cant argue there
Hahhaha
@@VioletIsBulletproof Republicans and the wall. Democrats and obama care are some of the best jokes of each party
Random: I'm watching this outside 3 years later and the sun came out right when Amanda said it did 😊
Didn't realise this movie was actually out now so I might as well go watch it and see what's up before I finish the vid!
Really loving the videos Amanda 😎
The Hunt was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Hollywood has so played out the badass invincible white girl already
2:37 What does it says about the world right now that I can't even remember WHICH tragedy she's referring you
I dont think people realize that the left-aligned working class really dont like the rich liberals. Of course we will disagree with people who oppose our viewpoints, but in the end there is a greater class divide than political divide and that's the injustice we should band together to fight.
Poor right wingers will fight tooth and nail to make sure they stay poor and rich people stay rich.
This kind of reminds me of "Assassination Nation" - just because of the "controversy" around it and such, even though in that movie they basically called out everyone.
I want to see this movie (mainly because Betty Gilpin and Emma Roberts), but not because of the controversy.
Lmao as a norwegian i'd like to see what is considered "extreme left" in this movie. Probably equivalent to our most right-winged politicians :p
the left isnt even visible in this movie. the "elites" are somewhat an indictment of the democratic party (which is our "left" party but they are the far right in your country) even though republicans (the right wing party, which are considered nationalists and fringe-right in your country) and democrats are part of the elite class in the US. its just a lazy analysis of US politics and absolutely does not mean anything to anyone outside of our country
You have snow? In March? I've never seen a video be so relatable before.
Glad I found this movie, that way I found this video and your channel 🤔😄👌
This seems like a role Denis Reynolds would play to show Dee how easy/meaningless it is to be an actor or something...
I can't comment as to whether it does it as well, since I don't like bloody movies, but Jon Stewart's Irresistible movie calls out both sides quite nicely.
I mean... it sounds basically like the Purge.
We already have a movie like the Purge. In fact, someone decided we should get four.
The same studio behind those movies.
Spot on review! Just watched it! Great satire.
Tell me you live in Canada without saying it
Amanda: "Well, the lighting changed because the sun is reflecting off the snow'
I appreciate the fair review
Honestly I've never even knew this exists until your video. And I thought I know a lot about new movies...
Crystal Mae is the one flipping get the bird to Crystal May in the photo on Athena’s wall.
I loved this movie. I loved how it made fun of both sides unapologetically. I also thought it was cool that you didn’t know who the main character was going to be for a while because they all kept dying off lol
Catching up with older vids after subscribing a little while back. I never heard of this movie until watching this vid. Or if I did, it must've been mentioned by folks in passing as a controversy that was stupid to begin with because I don't remember ever hearing about this.
