Lych heals because of your overclock, any buffs that is applied to your towers gets absorbed by Lych and it heals by 5-10% of its max health
The reason why you were losing lives is because you couldn't take down the ghost Moab that the Lych spawns when it reaches the skull fast enough.
If you are doing this challenge again I recommend going for money production weapons and upgrades, also UPGRADE YOUR MONKEY

exotic is the second highest level, if you hit the upgrade button it buffs a bunch of stuff and removes commons, gives more choices for upgrades and unlocks godly which is where the paragons are, in the version you have it should cost 75k to unlock the upgrade

You were losing health because The Lych summons a mini version of himself that drains life the longer it is alive
In order to get Paragons for an option there is an upgrade button above "New Weapon"
That gives access to Paragon Upgrades and gets rid of common options

For future reference, Lych (the boss) eats buffs so everytime you overclocked your tower, he would eat ur buff and stun the tower for 10 seconds.
