E-Visas are for short trips to India. I have done so and it works just fine. Make sure to have your passport at all times when in India and don't loose it. You don't have to go through the consulate but other place do it as well. That's what I did. It works just fine as long as your stay is not longer. The lines at the counter are also much shorter when using the e-visa vs the standard traditional.

Caution when you apply for Indian Visa, make sure the arrival date is less than 30 days away. It is because Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) expires in 30 days. If it expires by the time you arrive in India, it becomes worthless and no visa will be issued. So apply three weeks in advance. It only takes 24-72 hours for them to approve or reject ETA.

I applied for e visa just recently. I got it in 24 hours and I had to pay only US $25. It was a bit confusing and long in the beginning but after the first application, it was not not bad. If you have any questions, you can always email indiatvoa@gov.in. They reply back in 24 hours. I was able to make payment by Paypal, as North American credit cards did not work. Also use Firefox. It seems to work much better. Overall speaking, it was an easy process.

If they dont take North American Visa not everyone has Paypal.

kindly explain what does this below question really means? Does this mean visa rejections before travel?
"Have you ever been refused entry/deported by any country including India?"

This means if any foreign consulate has ever refused to give you a VISA for entry into their country. It's usually regarding arrivals to the foreign country and then refusal of entry.

I hate eVisa's, simple money grab, no reason why India cant have visa on arrivals for Western Nations. India can selectively screen who needs to apply for full visa's from the remaining countries. If India wants more tourists they better smarten up.
Only India would come up with a visa for conferences, total BS.
