The problem with using a heating mat, is by the time you've got the phone in the tool, the screen has cooled down a lot. With a tool like that that secures the phone in place, a heat gun is better I think.

Hi, as the heating pad applies even heating, the screen will not cool down as long as you start separating the screen once the heating is done.

For a screen with minor cracks that don’t bulge, you can apply tape to the crack screen for separation.
