  • As your moving day approaches, those 24 hours before the big move can be incredibly hectic!
To help you stay on track, and ensure a smooth transition, we've compiled a list of essential tips to make moving day stress-free.
    1. Have a plan for little kids and pets
Arranging for someone to watch your young children and pets can prevent a lot of chaos. This will help them stay happy and allow you to focus on the task at hand without constant interruptions.
    2. Be packed the day before
Avoid last-minute chaos by ensuring all your belongings are packed up the day before your move. This gives you ample time to double-check everything and reduces the risk of leaving items behind.
    3. Make sure your cell phone is charged
Your phone will be your lifeline on moving day. From coordinating with movers to using GPS for directions, a fully charged phone is essential. Don’t forget to pack your charger in your essentials bag.
    4. Clear a path for the movers
Make sure there’s a clear path for the moving truck and helpers. Talk to your neighbors if necessary and remove any obstacles that could become tripping hazards. Label tricky areas like uneven steps to alert the movers.
    5. Pack an ice chest
Keep everyone energized by packing a portable cooler with soda, water bottles, and snacks. Store it in your car for easy access to refreshments throughout the day.
    6. Dress appropriately
Safety is key on moving day. Wear long sleeves, pants, closed-toe shoes, and gloves to protect yourself from scratches and cuts. Opt for sneakers for mobility or heavy work boots for extra support. If you have a history of injuries, consider using braces for added protection.
    7. Keep sealable plastic bags on hand
Organize your furniture screws by putting them in labeled sealable plastic bags. This simple step can save you a lot of hassle when reassembling furniture in your new home.
    8. Create floor plans for the movers
Organize your unloading process with custom floor plans for each room. This makes it easier for movers to know where everything goes, speeding up the unloading process significantly.
    9. Don’t skip the final walkthrough
Before you leave, conduct a thorough inspection of every room to ensure nothing is left behind. This is crucial, especially for long-distance moves. Check all cabinets, closets, and outdoor areas.
    10. Take pictures of your utility meters
Capture meter readings and home conditions before you leave. This will help ensure accurate billing and protect you against any disputes with the new occupants. A quick snap of your water and gas meters can provide peace of mind.
