Great down to earth overview of the r8 I use the 9 foot five weight for small still waters here in the uk …… defo agree with the line choice .. this rod loves the Rio gold
Thank you for the review. Just treated myself to the sage R8 6wt to replace my older rpl 690, i believe that was the model. I need to get a reel that is balanced well for this rod. Without spending too much, what would you recommend? Mainly fishing small to medium streams and stripping streamers for trout.. Thanks again for the review
Congrats on the new rod, hope you enjoy it! There are many great reel options to go with that rod. You can get options from Sage, Lamson, Orvis and Ross. Give us a call, we would love to get you set up with a reel for the R8.

What indicator line would you recommend for the 596-4?
Are you asking about indicator/nymphing fly line or indicator leader material?
Will a daiwa 1000 size spinning reel fit on this rod?
It won’t. It’s a fly rod.
Very nice review. Sage warranty has gone down hill. The price they charge for out of distribution rods is ridiculous.
Does sage make a 7-way two-piece rod
no they don't, Scott has a 7wt 2pc rod
If sage wants me to buy their fly rods then must come down to be priced less than 30% of the currently tag and most importantly must be either two or three pieces not four to cheap any rod build on four pieces period.😅
What review?
Sage’s warranty is the worst in the business, can’t believe you opened with that! Any rod over 10 yrs old (even old ones with “lifetime” warranty) are $250+ to repair a tip, not to mention 4+ months. Never again.
As of 2023 any Sage repair/replacement services are taking more than 6+ months. Echo fly rods gets your rod back to you in 2 weeks on a $300 rod.
