- The spiritual meets the primal in this scene from the biopic “Ferrari.”
As the sequence begins, the automotive mogul Enzo Ferrari (Adam Driver) arrives at a workers mass. The priest gives a speech about the miracle of the internal combustion engine. But attendees are distracted by another event happening simultaneously at the Autodromo, a nearby racetrack. Maserati is challenging Ferrari for the record there. So scenes of worship are intercut with the driver, Jean Behra (Derek Hill, the son of Phil Hill, the first American-born Formula 1 champion), navigating the course. In the church, Ferrari and his workers have their stopwatches out to time the Maserati.
Narrating the scene, the director Michael Mann said, “My serious intent was to imbue into audiences minds what’s in our characters’ minds, which is there’s something almost religious and deadly serious about it. The metaphysical, the savage power is really what is wedded together as a value in this scene.”

Great historic movie...I am hooked on all of racing history. Adam did a very good job as Enzo.

An Italian actor could have been a tad more appropriate here.
Assuming you have not seen the movie yet, he does a great job.
Great camera and lighting..somewhat reminiscing to the Godfather in colour and texture. I am biased for sure, maybe the movie could have been made with an all Italian cast, in the language that it supposed to be, verbally and in body language ,or let it be synchronised in Italian with english subtitles. The actors are allright, and the performances seem to be great...but still.

Two of the stopwatches used are Russians. An Agat and a Slava. Impossible for the time to be available in Italy....

This movie was a solid 3.5 on a scale from 1 to 10. There were a few decent moments, but otherwise forgettable & utterly lackluster.

Such a pretentious description of editing 🙄 tho credit for depicting how casual Italians are about mass - shortest Catholic mass I ever went to was in my father's small town near Naples - my aunts stood in the back and gossiped with neighbors, got communion and left. Whole thing took 45 mins tops

This was one of the worst and most hamfisten movies I have seen in a long time.

Meh...Driver is and will always be the accomplice of those travesties that were called Ep. VII, VIII and IX. Not talented enough not to see the terribly written "sith" character he played there each time he shows his face anywhere.
I used to have the same opinion and then I saw him in Annette and Silence. He can be really good. Something tells me he might have the role of his life in Megalopolis, I'm betting on this.
Exactly. Just like Natalie Portman, Ewan MacGregor, and Liam Neeson are generally regarded as bad actors 🙄
@@kil-md7on But the comment is not on his skills as an actor, is about his decision of participating in that farse and how that image lingers on. I don't think he is a good actor independently from SW, but the original comment was not about this. Anyeay, different respectable opinions. Thanks for the recommendations.
