I failed at low carb before because I was low on salt and had horrible heartburn and digestive issues. You need salt to make acid...with low insulin, you'll flush out the salt you don't need. Salt is only lethal when paired with carbs because insulin retains salt (and associated water). This time, I'm not having any heartburn or any other issues. Get that Himalayan salt going!

Why wouldn’t she show her cookbook that she worked hard to make? Fruits and veggies are carbohydrates. Idk.. I don’t think she looks sick at all. Many people on Keto equate eating fat = losing weight. Exogenous ketones, espoused by industry, and fat bombs, promoted by RUclipsrs, are keeping people from losing weight. Keto is about eating fewer calories without being hungry so you can burn fat. And yes, calories do matter!
My family is not particularly helpful. So I just do my own thing. They love it when I cook but then blow it with pizza or skittles or whatever. Its heartbreaking. They all have medical problems due to poor diet. I get no support from doctors either who just throw pills at the problems.
Don't be too concerned about lack of family support. I have been doing a tailored Keto Diet due to kidney disease without any support from my family. They bring high carb food home. This is about you. Be your own advocate. I lost 30 kilos and now weigh 60 kilos, got off Insulin Injections, got my kidney function up without any support from Doctors. You can do it when you decide that you have had enough of feeling so unwell and want a better life for yourself. My kids are in their 20's so they have time on their side to change their diet in the future. You can of course be the example for them and teach them what you can. Take good care of you and let that be your focus. xx

I am a Lyme warrior! After going through treatments twice, I ended up in treatments a third time because I just wasn't well. My third time was with a new doctor for me, and he put me on a ketogenic diet. That was life-changing. As he explained, the Lyme bacteria feed on sugar. It was important to eliminate the sugar while going through treatments. He also discovered I had a co-infection called Babesia (Lyme acts as a host to other pathogens, like this one). What he did for me changed my life! I went from some days of not even being able to walk to functioning more "nornal" than I had, at the time, in 9 years with only a few of what I called "residual issues." Many years later, I did find exogenous ketones and tried them along with my already ketogenic diet. I know they may not have a regular, necessary place in a ketogenic diet; however, they helped to resolve the remaining "residual issues" I had for so many years. That said, they are available without the expensive MLM company that pushes them. We found them for HALF that price. I don't need them anymore, but they did what I needed them to in order to be at a much better place!

However, people who are keto-adapted and glycogen depleted find that a bolus of carbohydrate tends to be rapidly converted into muscle and liver glycogen instead of being oxidized immediately for energy. This has the effect of allowing the liver to release glucose slowly as needed, and your muscles to have these carbs in reserve for explosive exercise. b. Your body has the capacity to regulate its speed of protein digestion. So that low protein storage capacity (amino acid pool) is somewhat supplemented by the any protein awaiting digestion in your small intestine. c. Fat metabolism is basically a non-issue in the prioritization for keto-adapted and fat-adapted people. New dietary fat enters easily into adipose tissue and/or is metabolized on its way through the circulation. There really is no new fat (dietary) vs. old fat (lipolysis) difference in this regards. The oxidative priority of fat is more like TDEE minus alcohol minus exogenous ketones minus carbs minus some old protein metabolism from autophagy minus some new protein contribution from TEF and gluconeogenesis equals the fat calories that are contributed over the day.
I do not know why keto is so important?If you stay away from Randel cycle ,you do not get up in weight that easy and with insulin to glucakon ratio and leucine ,you can build muscles and have anabolism.Keto is terapeutic and i would not like to do it as life style.But i will try with Protein Sparing two to 3 times a week to kick start weight loss.I think it makes sense .I am not keen on fasting over 24 and 18hour fast with 800cal day after could help.We shall see.

There are FAR better voices for Keto than this woman. You will do great. If you are trying to lose weight you can sift through a lot of stuff out here talking about getting your macros in, what they are saying is eat more fats to maintain a healty weight, which once you hit your goal, you will want to do. But until then eat healty fats and go LOW on the carbs. I don't know much about menapause but I hear eating a Ketogenic diet helps that process for a lot of woman. Best of luck to you.
Start out simple. Remove the bad stuff like refined sugar/carbs and seed oils. That is universal. Then refine from there. You can also improve the questionable like slow fermented sour dough store bread or pasture vs cafo and so on ..
Check out the Virta Health group's guidelines for characteristics of a well-formulated ketogenic diet. These are the folks doing the multi-year hands-on study with a large patient base, and achieving fantastic results. They just published their Year 2 results. I read and watch a variety of approaches, but I balance them all against the folks with the sustained objective numbers - Virta.
Don't judgement but some years ago, I was running regularly distances of 5 to 7 miles every other day in the cold and I was eating very low carb as a result I'd on occasion eat a stick of butter. I suspect it was the salt I needed as much as the calories. By the way sour cream and dairy fat is a great source of long side chain menaquinone per recent more complete assays.

You may be in a stall IF you meant a gallon of milk and not water. There are roughly 12carbs in a CUP of Raw Milk which means there are roughly 192 carbs in a gallon. I hope you meant water. IF you did mean milk, try switching it out for water and the stall might end. Milk has way more natural sugars in it than Heavy Whipping Cream.

18:24 Yes, babies poo without consuming any fiber, but have you seen and smell what their poo is like without fiber? Pooing doesn't seem like a great experience, it's almost like diarrhea. Plus, just because a baby can poo without fiber doesn't adults should follow their example, that's insane logic. They also can't chew a steak. I mean, going by that logic you would also recommend a diet of breast milk or just subsisting on liquid nutrition.

I'm ... confused. I don't understand doing keto so strictly, for so long, that you're skin-on-bone. Makes me seriously question how healthy keto is long term. Dr. Mercola might be right, after all -- that we should graduate up to 100 - 150 carbs/day, once we've lost excess weight, and have a fasting day or two per week for health.
Who is skin on bone? Metabolic flexibility is what most keto peeps aim for. Body prefers ketosis and the person feels better that way, but will eat with the season and whats local for the season. Its not necessary to eat daily so if we are, it needs to be less. We dont need huge fat stores as we have refrigeration. Im at maintenance for 8 months now and as much as I've trialled eating some carbs, I feel much better with highest fats amd proteins and following my cravings. I always eat more carbs the week before my period. I go with the flow and realize i have an 8 lb fluctuation range within each month. You may realize your views will keep chamgimg the longer youre in ketosis...i used to laugh about eating omad yet here i am without trying.
That is a little high unless you are very active. However I do not look for deep ketosis either. There is the optimal diet by Kwasniewski which is more in this vein. 50-80 is more of the range and very heavy on saturated fats. I will also have high carbs on occasion but then very low fat.
I found that coconut oil destroys my appetite neat, cant stand it neat now, so cook with it instead. I am wondering if it has the same effect if I consume it in capsules instead (so I don't have to taste it or have the residue)...so am about decant the oil into capsules to see if it has the same effect on diet.
The plate of rice covered in fat as being a keto-friendly choice is ridiculous. Ketosis is achieved through the reduction of carbohydrates not from the addition of fat.

What exactly do you mean? Why are you worried about people trying to erase you from existence? I'm probably on the spectrum or somewhere adjacent to it, although undiagnosed as such. Instead, I'm diagnosed with a learning disorder and thought disorder, as my diagnoses were from decades ago when there wasn't much diagnosis of autism. Also, I'm diagnosed with depression. Keto made the depression disappear and completely altered my thinking. I suspect if I had been keto since childhood I never would've been diagnosed with anything. I don't identify with my diagnoses. Keto profoundly altered my neurocognitive functioning, but I wasn't erased from existence. Have you read or listened to Dr. Catherine Shanahan? She has some interesting info about autism in relation to industrial vegetable oils, epigenetics, and de novo genetic mutations. Also, have you come across Dr. Katherine Reid? Her daughter has autism and, by removing glutamate from her diet, she went from severe to well functioning. Her daughter also seemed happier. Constipation is something I've never suffered with. I do drink coffee, with a little cream. I can't believe you show us bottles of seed oils and then complain that dairy is no good; saying we shouldn't put butter on our steak. I've been carnivore for forty years. The only non-carnivore item I consume is coffee as it's great for the bowel. It does have some fiber in it.
This woman Advertises and sells books. best advice I have had is to, Eat fatty meat, drink water, you will get your health right. that is rule 1 Also cuts down on the million rules, eat until you are comfortably stuffed, if you get hungry refer to rule 1.
I'm keto but have been looking into carnivore, but she doesn't look good at all. Just look at her arms. Extremely skinny with little to zero body fat. Can see the veins all over.

Eating low carb is not necessarily a weight loss diet. I use it to avoid inflammation.

Not everybody is dairy allergic but I found I couldn't drink milk after forty years, however, cream and butter has no effect on me.

Whats the issue that you have that causes this? Because reducing inflammation does a lot of things. Can you eat ground beef or mince?

we have been #carnivore for several months now...you just gave me the KEY to his #heavy #legs...my hubby. has gone from 190 to 145 but his legs were sooooo tired....it is a NEED FOR MORE SALT....thanks! as for me..im in stall..im drinking maybe a gallon of milk a day...raw milk. and meat when he comes home and cooks....I guess I need to get your book and put in the effort. I'm 5f and 145...but my body composition , as my clothes fit better and cellulite is not SO dramatically prevalent LOOKING. everything in mainstream searches would lead us to actually consider #PAD, LOL, but he ate some golden raspberries I grow and felt a little better, but it is not #carbs..it is #salt...the need for more. You may be in a stall IF you meant a gallon of milk and not water. There are roughly 12carbs in a CUP of Raw Milk which means there are roughly 192 carbs in a gallon. I hope you meant water. IF you did mean milk, try switching it out for water and the stall might end. Milk has way more natural sugars in it than Heavy Whipping Cream.

That much milk is nobody's friend. Milk is for baby cows, not people. It's DESIGNED by nature to help baby cows put on weight and grow quickly. It's for sure not a diet drink in any shape, form, or fashion.

I'm ... confused. I don't understand doing keto so strictly, for so long, that you're skin-on-bone. Makes me seriously question how healthy keto is long term. Dr. Mercola might be right, after all -- that we should graduate up to 100 - 150 carbs/day, once we've lost excess weight, and have a fasting day or two per week for health.
Who is skin on bone? Metabolic flexibility is what most keto peeps aim for. Body prefers ketosis and the person feels better that way, but will eat with the season and whats local for the season. Its not necessary to eat daily so if we are, it needs to be less. We dont need huge fat stores as we have refrigeration. Im at maintenance for 8 months now and as much as I've trialled eating some carbs, I feel much better with highest fats amd proteins and following my cravings. I always eat more carbs the week before my period. I go with the flow and realize i have an 8 lb fluctuation range within each month. You may realize your views will keep chamgimg the longer youre in ketosis...i used to laugh about eating omad yet here i am without trying.

That is a little high unless you are very active. However I do not look for deep ketosis either. There is the optimal diet by Kwasniewski which is more in this vein. 50-80 is more of the range and very heavy on saturated fats. I will also have high carbs on occasion but then very low fat.
(My) epilepsy is not related to sugars...it's related to nuts and seeds (lectins) and coffee. nevertheless keto is a good ....starting point...

I found that coconut oil destroys my appetite neat, cant stand it neat now, so cook with it instead. I am wondering if it has the same effect if I consume it in capsules instead (so I don't have to taste it or have the residue)...so am about decant the oil into capsules to see if it has the same effect on diet.
Neat as in a measurement in a glass?! 👀🙊 I'd use mct oil instead which is flavourless.

The plate of rice covered in fat as being a keto-friendly choice is ridiculous. Ketosis is achieved through the reduction of carbohydrates not from the addition of fat.

I believe you mean your protein target is 0.8% times your lean body mass. That is 0.008 instead of 0.8.
And I took it to mean 0.8 grams per pound of lean body mass.

No, it's 0,8 grams per kilogram lean body mass, up to 1,5 grams if you are doing excessive sports or are an older person.

Fiber is the best prebiotic, it's what the good bacteria feed on... We need 32g a day.

I have autism. Why do so many people in the keto community hate people like me? All I want is to be included without everyone hoping to erase me from existence. Is that too much to ask?
What exactly do you mean? Why are you worried about people trying to erase you from existence?
I'm probably on the spectrum or somewhere adjacent to it, although undiagnosed as such. Instead, I'm diagnosed with a learning disorder and thought disorder, as my diagnoses were from decades ago when there wasn't much diagnosis of autism. Also, I'm diagnosed with depression. Keto made the depression disappear and completely altered my thinking. I suspect if I had been keto since childhood I never would've been diagnosed with anything. I don't identify with my diagnoses. Keto profoundly altered my neurocognitive functioning, but I wasn't erased from existence.
Have you read or listened to Dr. Catherine Shanahan? She has some interesting info about autism in relation to industrial vegetable oils, epigenetics, and de novo genetic mutations. Also, have you come across Dr. Katherine Reid? Her daughter has autism and, by removing glutamate from her diet, she went from severe to well functioning. Her daughter also seemed happier. Constipation is something I've never suffered with. I do drink coffee, with a little cream. I can't believe you show us bottles of seed oils and then complain that dairy is no good; saying we shouldn't put butter on our steak.
I've been carnivore for forty years. The only non-carnivore item I consume is coffee as it's great for the bowel. It does have some fiber in it.

This woman Advertises and sells books. best advice I have had is to, Eat fatty meat, drink water, you will get your health right. that is rule 1 Also cuts down on the million rules, eat until you are comfortably stuffed, if you get hungry refer to rule 1.
