This body of work has one major problem it didn't consider the exchange rate correctly. For many calculation, you adopted the current rate for transactions from previous years. For example, while 1kg of chicken moved from 2,250 in 2021 to 5600 in 2024, the exchange rate in 2021 was about 600, while it is not 1600. If you do the calculation using prevailing dollar rate, a chicken cost $3.75 in 2021 and $3.5 in 2024. So the real problem is the change in the exchange rate. It is this change in exchange rate that has made all the factors of productions that are imported expensive.
Man Nigeria is a powerful economy, nearly every ingredient they named for chicken feed is double the price in my country
@ they doubled in price because of the dollar. So basically, the true root cause was the fall of the naira.
@@mubarakadigun5203 no brother , they didn't double. They have always been this price they barely rose during COVID. The cheapest bag of feed in my country has always been around $30
Again the economy isn’t dollarized so fluctuations in US exchange rates may not matter, since the prices are changing in Naira. Is there a ban on chicken imports? Chicken in the US cost more in $US as per your calculations. Weird economics there bro. It looks more like a cartel operation than an economic problem.
Exactly
It's like Nigeria is trying to destroy itself from within. The sawdust can be replaced with fast growing hemp. Trees take years to grow. Hemp takes months.
By Hemp do you mean like Indian Hemp ?
Here in India we get it chicken for 2-2.5 dollars , fish is 2-2.5 dollrs and goat meat is around 8-10 dollars per kilo . I really cant comprehend how something like chicken is 11 dollars per kilo but it could be said per capita demand in india is very low . If there 14 meals in a week then average indian would have only have 2 non veg meals at most . High Per capita demand could be the reason
Also beef is very cheap in in dia .
Well pork and beef (buffalo) are a niche product in most of india . Last time I had pork , it costed me around 1200 per kg and buffalo meat is really cheap tbh but don't start about beef , in my state they grill the customer well done on a stake 😂
Most African countries import food from America, merchandise off which become more expensive
If a product is not made in your country you must know you'll pay a heavy price
Here in South Africa even basic things such as bread, milk etc are very very expensive
In Cameroon, chicken is 3000fcfa and we think it is expensive. That's about 6000naira😂😂
3000 CFA is about 7500 more realistically. Chickens sold for as much as 10000 CFA equivalent.
@enod9746 WoW. Its nice to hear from our Aftican brothers.
As a fellow chicken farmer, this is a well balanced reportage.
Kudos for this news piece.
All the promised government intervention was and is currently a mirage.
People accused us of greed yet ignore all this underlying factors and seek out imported albiet cheaper poorly preserved & smuggled chicken parts as substitutes.
That's their call, their health and their decision.
Farmers cannot become philanthropists and many barely break even in the present economy.
Expect higher prices if farmers are left to flounder without reductions in operating costs.
🤔The aboki wey suppose farm corn, dey do okada & shoemaker for Lagos 😛 Person wey study agricultural dey work for bank, Govt wey suppose provide security dey think of another election. Farmers in the rural areas are growing weaker by the day. EVERYONE HAS ABANDON FARMING. Only few of us were lucky to wake up quick and return to Nigeria to farm. I have a small place 100x100 , and today I churn out 15 goats monthly for market. We ALL NEED TO EMBRACE FARMING and stop deceiving our self.
Are you open to Investment opportunities?
insane price , in bangladesh we protested for overpriced goods while a chicken costs about 1 usd per kilogram .
We have alot of affordable chickens here in libertad market Bacolod city philippines.🐔
In Zimbabwe a broiler costs around $6 🍿👀🇿🇼🇿🇼🇿🇼🇿🇼🌲. In December expect $7 for a fully grown one.
As a commercial chicken farmer in kenya, I wish I could just my chicken there, I would be insanely rich
Like these African Business Insider documents
Even eggs wey I dey manage chop don cost. Nigeria's economy is becoming bad and bad. The president is most probably doing nothing telling us to manage our hunger
Tjooo 😮😮, that's expensive
Only the Giant Mess of Africa can achieve this 😂
wait ooo...why are we importing maize??
You’re using todays rates to calculate 2021 prices
This documentary shows Nigerians have to look for alternative meats, rabbit is the cheapest alternative.
Is rabbit cheaper than chicken?
Yes, rabbit is cheaper and healthier.
The issue is that we Nigerians are traditional beings. We just continue doing what we saw our parents do.
Then rabbits give birth 3 times in a year. Most people who rare chicken don't ever think of letting them reproduce.
Good idea but Rabbit doesn't have much meat and isn't farmed alot
@@awemanyfit between 3kg - 7kg. It depends on the breed of rabbit. But the main advantage is that rabbits give birth to 6 babies at a time and they can get pregnant 4 times a year.
But with chicken, you buy 4 broilers, after 4 months when you're ready to eat them, you'll only have the 4 chicken. But with rabbits in 4 months you will have at least 6 extra.
Cmon in botswana chicken is $5 dressed $5.60 live. Anything more is lunacy 😂
If this channel wants to be taken seriously, the least it could do is to fact check its central premise. The info presented @ 0:49 sec into the video is so obviously wrong. Historical exchange rate data is readily available for those who would like to verify for themselves.
The most expensive chicken in the world is the dong tao chicken from hanoi vietnam.
And what is the price of watermelon ?
It's organic chicken they are talking about, it is a luxury in today's world. That's why it's costly it's branded as organic due to feed
Local or free range, organic ...have different feed costs...
Abado Republic, keep voting TPain and his likes into office. Shege never go round well.
You are just DUMB.
All backwards congress
should be called Business insider nigeria not Africa if all your content focuses on them. Africa is not a single country!
Lol😂 you're jealous
They haven't released much content, I see stuff on East Africa, Kenya and so on. How many countries do you want them to cover in 7-10 videos?
Nigeria eats more beef than chicken.
Beef has always been the staple protein and not chicken. This report is very funny, they said it's a staple protein but also a luxury. protein. Aunty which one is it?
@@ayoojomo5402how has beef always been the staple protein when cows couldn’t even make it pass the middle belt until the last what 100 years
In India it's opposite..
Broiler chickens are very cheap compared to Lamb/ Goat..😅
Am a Nigerian and after beef, this is second most eaten protein in Nigeria. It is not expensive and almost every Nigerian eats it.
Yes we not producing enough to cover demand and it becomes expensive during festive season.
This is a misleading and false report
Almost every Nigerian ke? Are you an Agbadorian?
@RA, ur lies dey smell. Aw many Nigerians can afford to eat chicken regularly?
Dude, you live inside your estate and you never go out to relate with other people I'm sure or you're rich. Dude chicken is expensive
I think you might be speaking for yourself here. And what the report is saying is how quickly the prices have climbed over just a couple of years.
If anything, as of today fish would be the most consumed due to it being the cheapest alternative for the large majority of lower class population.
Tpain
Tinunbu o😂
WTH u talking about?? Chicken is the least expensive meat product in the global market! 🙄️🙄️ change the title to “IN NIGERIA”
Hahahaha completely agree. Beef and goat per kg is much higher
Whwn making videos like this research well, using lagos only to determine whats happening in nigeria is completely wrong. In Abuja and other Northern States you can get chicken starting from 6000 Naira.
Is the voice over AI? the voice bugs out every now and then
One of those times when being vegan actually pays off. 😂😂
We in Nigerians the problem...
Thats a Hen. A chicken would be a baby female chicken. Rooster is a male . So I am confused. You say chicken and show a hen. What are you refering to????
Are you being silly on purpose? or needlessly fastidious?
When you go to a restaurant for a dinner, you don't order a rooster or a hen, you order chicken!
The Famous fast food chain is known as Kentucky fried Chicken...not Kentucky hen, not Kentucky rooster or chick!!
Chicken is the generic name for the poultry bird!
👊🏾🇳🇬👊🏾🇳🇬!!
sad reality
lol this maths is so wrong
dizemba
Corrupt country 😢😢😢😢😢 everyone suffers
Nigeria should import from India.
lol as a Nigerian poultry farmer this video is nonsense.
