    This body of work has one major problem it didn't consider the exchange rate correctly. For many calculation, you adopted the current rate for transactions from previous years. For example, while 1kg of chicken moved from 2,250 in 2021 to 5600 in 2024, the exchange rate in 2021 was about 600, while it is not 1600. If you do the calculation using prevailing dollar rate, a chicken cost $3.75 in 2021 and $3.5 in 2024. So the real problem is the change in the exchange rate. It is this change in exchange rate that has made all the factors of productions that are imported expensive.

      @mubarakadigun5203 10 дней назад +5

      @ they doubled in price because of the dollar. So basically, the true root cause was the fall of the naira.

      Again the economy isn’t dollarized so fluctuations in US exchange rates may not matter, since the prices are changing in Naira. Is there a ban on chicken imports? Chicken in the US cost more in $US as per your calculations. Weird economics there bro. It looks more like a cartel operation than an economic problem.

    Here in India we get it chicken for 2-2.5 dollars , fish is 2-2.5 dollrs and goat meat is around 8-10 dollars per kilo . I really cant comprehend how something like chicken is 11 dollars per kilo but it could be said per capita demand in india is very low . If there 14 meals in a week then average indian would have only have 2 non veg meals at most . High Per capita demand could be the reason

    Most African countries import food from America, merchandise off which become more expensive
    If a product is not made in your country you must know you'll pay a heavy price
    Here in South Africa even basic things such as bread, milk etc are very very expensive

    As a fellow chicken farmer, this is a well balanced reportage.
    Kudos for this news piece.
    All the promised government intervention was and is currently a mirage.
    People accused us of greed yet ignore all this underlying factors and seek out imported albiet cheaper poorly preserved & smuggled chicken parts as substitutes.
    That's their call, their health and their decision.
    Farmers cannot become philanthropists and many barely break even in the present economy.
    Expect higher prices if farmers are left to flounder without reductions in operating costs.

Farmers in the rural areas are growing weaker by the day. EVERYONE HAS ABANDON FARMING. Only few of us were lucky to wake up quick and return to Nigeria to farm. I have a small place 100x100 , and today I churn out 15 goats monthly for market. We ALL NEED TO EMBRACE FARMING and stop deceiving our self.
