We own 2 of these. 1 is a 2014 with 125k miles and a heavily modified ecodiesel that we routinely trip through the hills, take hunting, tow the boat, atv, etc... Only gotten it stuck 2 times and that was in snow up to the door handle... still got out under it's own power by the end of the day. The other is a 2016 v6 overland with all the bells n whistles and 60k miles. The overland edition has become our primary family vehicle now as the air suspension rides smoother than the 3" lift and 33's on the ecodiesel and it is quieter too. Both have their place and both will last us another 8 years easily. The best all around do anything SUVs out there. Prove me wrong!

Thanks for the 100,000k overview, Brad. I bought my '12 WK2 Overland last year with about 172k mi. It's got a Hemi, Quadra-Drive II, Air Lift, etc, pretty much loaded the same as yours except for the rear passenger entertainment system. No major issues so far, ✊😄knock on wood. Also, I'd enjoy seeing your video about changing the Hemi's spark plugs. I need to change mine soon.

@@alejandracampis1516 The check engine light came on recently. Needs a tune up (spark plugs), and an oil change. It's got an oil lead from the cylinder head and oil pan gaskets too. Otherwise, it's still running well, everything works. But then I'm pretty easy my vehicles. I'm thinking about just having a complete engine overhaul done.

We have an '18 TH with the 6 and absolutely love it. We have 78k and have had no issues. We have towed U-Haul trailers to kids college with no issues. Likewise, no complaints about power on the trails. We recently sold our 16 JKU Rubicon because it was so rough on road; amazing on the trails but scary at 65. The GC will do almost everything we did in the JK and the GC is just worlds better on the road and it has more space for our camping gear.

YES! Please do a video on the spark plug replacements!! I am the proud owner of a 2016 Grand Cherokee Overland, with the 5.7 Hemi which I love. I am just passing 152,000 original miles. Lots of upgrades including an aluminum 4 person RTT, off-road heavy duty bumper w/hoop upfront. Getting a winch soon and additional lighting. I lived over half my life in CO, never more than 1.5 hours drive to Moab, been going for 30 years, especially at the right times…when no one is there. I hope to do my doing my plugs asap, I need to know exactly which ones to put in and can I buy them not at the dealership. My Overland is loaded like yours ie heated/cooled front seats, heated rear seats and air, etc. I have spent a pretty penny on upkeep, but it’s running (and looking) very well. I need to do my diff fluids, but unfortunately I have a rear differential seal “seepage” going on. I have been advised to replace that seal, yikes, not too happy about it. Otherwise she runs tight, very. I would prefer not to give up the 5.7l ,V8, Hemi. I love that power, even fully loaded, as I am, always. When she needs to go, she goes…fast. Yet, off-road, she’s a beast. It’s truly amazing what that truck (yes, truck) is capable of. I also have a set of Maxxtrax always up top on the built-in rack on the RTT. DMOS Stealth always on-board to assist with a possible self rescue, offer help to someone else. I can, as you well know, can fit 5 comfortably. Yet, I max out at 2 (maybe 3, tops) for adventures. My rear set 2/3rds is always down, leaving room for 1 passenger in the rear. That leaves plenty of room for everyone…and everything. Have full Eco-Flow solar system rigged up and, when appropriate, use a diesel heater to warm the RTT. Boom 💥, instant 4 season roller. Thanks for the great advice. I am going to do my water pump, proactively, asap, plugs myself. I know I seriously need the new plugs bc my mpg’s have taken a noticeable downturn. Did the full replacements at 85K miles…it’s time. Steering is tight as day 1. I replaced the alternator with a 525amp one from Power Bastards, put in an Optima yellow top and only run 0-w20 Mobil One, changing oil/all filters every 10K (or more) miles. It can take it and I save a ton of dough over time. I take the “pay now” approach, which is why I find your advice so incredibly helpful. Thanks, again and please do that video on the plugs…I gotta get on that asap. Everything is better in a Jeep.

Excellent review, Brad! Thanks for this informative video. May you and family have many more years of uninterrupted and smooth use of your (by now…legendary!) Grand Cherokee!
BTW, it was your very early videos that cemented my decision then to purchase my 2016 JGC Overland Trail Rated (which I shipped and use in Greece) and my 2020 JGC Trailhawk (both V6, 3.6 lit) with which I have joined you in and enjoyed tremendously four or five (?) of your outings in the States. Both with no modifications to this day, except the MOPAR rock rails in the TH.
P.S. Oh, yes…thankfully no problems or issues so far; except that punctured tire in one of those outings, which I am sure you remember well! As do I! LOL

Awesome breakdown, I have a 2018 4x4 limited with the quadra track II and the only problem I've had was the water pump at 68k miles ( covered under warranty ). I love my WK2 and I also think it looks better than the newer version. I didn't know the spark plugs were that easy to change out. I'm itching to at least try out the 4x4 system on mine. Thanks for the review, good job. The spark plug story is encouraging; I had no idea there were two per cylinder.
Mine is an '18 TH 5.7 with about 46K miles. After a pinhole radiator leak (new radiator installed under warranty), I've had no issues.
For me, the '18 is a great combination of new tech and old school. And don't forget, WK2 TH's come with the SRT seats, a big upgrade from the standard GC seats in every other trim level (except SRT of course). I doubt there's any different seats in the new one.

I just tuned up my Uncles 2014 Grand Cherokee Trail Hawk 5.7 Hemi and 240,000 Miles, original engine,no major issues...I did all the maintenance! I restore classic cars so sort of know how to work on cars lol..
He had minor issues when new with radio/infotainment system but all covered when new under warranty..Never had engine or trans issues..Hemi waterpumps always go from 70,000-120,000 miles, normal deal.New wheel bearings 160,000'ish...one went bad he decided to do all of them..
Air suspension was replaced at just over 210,000..Wasn't overly expensive considering the Jeep is paid for,so a few items here/there when its paid for is expected and doesn't hurt so much as you have no car payment..The Jeep looks and drives pretty much like new still..
Maint is always done and at 100,000 and 200,000 miles the transmission fluid was changed..ditto transfer case and coolant.

My 2013 Overland (V8 quadradrive) now at 136K miles. Have had quite a few failures, but nothing catastrophic. I just finished retrofitting an OME suspension and was able to fit 33" tires on stock wheels with spidertrax spacers. My air suspension did not fail, the front struts were shot. New struts would only be warrantied if you replaced the rear air bags and pump at the same time. Air suspensions are generally designed for 100k miles of use. The swap was very straightforward, and all you get is a message at startup. If you ever come out and just the front is low, it's the brass and plastic elbows at the top of the struts. But at this point Id seriously think about going OME.
The rear ELSD motor went out on mine when it was 4 years old. I found a new OEM motor (made in poland iirc) for under $400. The old one was corroded inside. I added extra grease to the new one and coated it with cosmoline. Very easy to replace.
Also had a clunk since about 110k miles, it was the front upper control arm bushings. Replaced with Rocky Road HD. Now the front lower control arms are clunking a little...

I also have an XJ that I've been working on, that's the reason for not modding what I have the TH. Still, I get the itch now and then. I have a 2014 GC with the Diesel. I agree with you regarding the towing. It “can” tow big & heavy, but it doesn’t mean you should. I’ve had 1 issue with the air suspension, a blown airbag and warranty covered it. With the Diesel, the only issue I’ve had was at -40F and the exterior sensor read it wrong and tried to run the def and burned out the pump. As to cold, I live in Interior Alaska where we see -30F to -60F on a regular basis, and no issues with the air suspension, or any other component with exception to what I mentioned above. As to off-road, I have the Summit edition, and mines been all over Alaska including the Stampede trail (into the wild Trail with the Bus), it goes everywhere my other Jeep can go, only with a much better ride. I agree these are great vehicles! As to the articulation, it’ll never be great, even with the sway bar disconnect due to these being independent suspension on a unibody. If you want the big articulation, you’ve got to get a solid axle. Anyway, thanks again for all the fun content, and keep having fun.

talking with dealer Australia intresting thing know)) about wk2
This generation of grand cherokee wk2 on a solid frame, the new wl is no longer available, the dealer in Australia sent me with regards to the welded frame in wk2:
Monocoque Body with Built-in Ladder Frame
They say that superior off-road handling capability could only come at the expense of on-road smoothness. They have obviously never driven grand cherokee . By incorporating a lightweight and highly rigid monocoque body with a built-in ladder frame that provides added resistance to torsion and flexing and fixing them atop a dynamic independent suspension, Grand cherokee achieves an unprecedented combination of all-terrain control and luxury-sedan comfort. For added durability, grand cherokee now makes more extensive use of galvanized steel body panels, while the new aluminum hood panel reduces weight for better handling.

Just for grits shins I put a cold air intake from K&N on our 3.6.. awesome! Fuel economy improved about 5 mpg, gained just a few ponies; it is noticeable. And the sound at acceleration?.. oh yeah.. even being the V6, it's nice! All told, it was $350 well spent! Get it! Your hemi will love it!
Our main complaints are the hard ride in OR2. Even deflated down to 17psi, it was harsh on old bones. Second issue is the UConnect system. Ugh! It's gone out twice in 3 years. Even the dealer says it's one of their biggest problems.

New radiator at 84k miles and recently had to fix the AC condenser and oil filter housing. Ten days later check engine light with EVAP code P0456. Leak with purge line cracked. Anyone else have these issues? I love the truck and really want to keep it. I am also worried about the air suspension.

Own a 2011 Overland which I purchased 5 years ago with 140K on it. Now just under 200K and it's going nowhere until I replace the rear differential. Probably my fault due to three 4500+ mile road trips all three during 100+ degree summer weather and I'll just say speed limits; shouldn't. (new diff = 3700 dealer quote just to throw it out there, have yet to decide if and how I'll replace it). Never had any issues with the air suspension. Did have to replace the oil pressure sending unit and the oil filter housing/cooler which is made of plastic; evidently a design flaw as this part seems to crack, requiring replacement (expensive if you do not diy).

Thank you so much for this video and I’m hoping to get your thoughts here. I am currently looking at buying a 2020 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk that is fully loaded with everything!! Only thing it lacks is the V8 engine. But it’s in prime condition and very clean. My question on if you think it’s worth it, is it has 38k on it right now and with the higher prices, they now want $44 and of course there is no negotiating since that’s the new dealership way. I just don’t know is it worth that price for the mileage, the V6 and just knowing it is going to cost me about $5k over what trade in value on it would currently be sitting at. So close to wanting it and love everything about it, but is it worth it??

I agree with being sceptical about the "lifetime" transmission fluid. Other manufacturers use basically the same zf trans, and they actually have service intervals for replacing the fluid I have heard. Would you guys have ever considered a GX460 instead of the grand Cherokee?

Hi Brad. We have a 21 WK2 Overland with the Quadra Drive system and all the bells and Whistles, and V-6. We are seriously looking at the Winnebago 1808 micro light trailer. It comes in at about 3700 lbs unloaded and fully loaded at 5,000. From what you’ve seen, do you think we will be able to tow that trailer without being stranded in the slowest lane going 35 mph up the Sierra grades such as hwy 395 north of Bishop Ca..? Oh, just my wife and I with perhaps Kayaks on top. I know you have the V-8, but perhaps you have discussed something like that this with friends. Thx! Oh, the 1808 is 20 feet long.

If you're having any issues at all with the air suspension in sub-freezing temps, it's almost 100% because the system took on some atmospheric air to make up for a loss of the high purity nitrogen that it was filled with from the factory. The moisture in atmospheric air freezes, so it can easily cause cold weather issues. The simple fix is to have the system refilled with high purity nitrogen.

New WL model has no Hemi V8 and only 4Xe Trail Hawk model. Only V6. New model is very nice but more expensive and choice of 2 or 3 rows of seats. I have last year of WK2 (2022), which was manufactured for 11 years - parts for ever. I traded in my 2016 Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited manual transmission for more than I paid for it. Wrangler holds its' value more than GC, but no comparison is comfort and drivability. In a recent highway trip, I got 27 mpg with a driving range of almost 600 miles / tank. If I was buying a new model, I would spring for the Overland model with air suspension for extra lift. Love your channel - you are good people. I have QT-II. You can still get V8 in Durango - which may be a good option.

I'm looking at a 2010 V8 limited (yes the ugly interior one) they are becoming harder to find. I avoided a newer one because 2011-2015 are riddled with issues and 2016-2022 are still 20% more $ than they should be imo. I definitely appreciated the direction on quada drive/trac and the air ride. I don't need drive for snowy roads in Michigan. The air ride is a no go for me. It's $2300 to replace. That's a lot of covered work holy shit!? Does your wife ever drive it in sport mode?
