    This was just amazing. I like your idea of making your own pottery forms from craft store wooden pieces and the insulation. I will be using more cling wrap in the future. Thanks

    I always LOVE your programs. Question? I made one of the large, floppy edge bowls. It was fully dry, Laguna B-mix no grog, bisque 04, slow speed. I put it in the kiln, bottom down and it distorted so much it didn't look like anything I put in the kiln. Any suggestions? Thank you.

    Wow Vaughn once again you have showed such amazing techniques and I have learned so much. I LOVE that you cut the clay off the long way to get a longer piece! How did I not think of that! You are truly such an incredible artist and maker. We are soo blessed to have you as our teacher. THANK YOU!! What exactly is wire wool please?

    Vaughn, when you fire these platters will you use stilts? If so, how many? I’m wondering if the platters will slump between the stilts if you don’t use 3 or 4 across the bottom.

    • @Vsmithpots
      @Vsmithpots  Год назад +1

      The gritted red clay I used for these pieces is very strong, it can be stilted and you are right it takes several.

      The hardware store, they sell it in rolls.

  • @amandadolby189
    @amandadolby189 Год назад +1

    I was wondering. Do the big platters with feet slump when firing? Do you do anything to prevent this? Also, do they warp whilst drying?

    • @Vsmithpots
      @Vsmithpots  Год назад +2

      The ones in the video stayed pretty flat, if you dry slowly they stay very flat.

    Thanks, Vaughn. I'm working in red earthenware cone 03 and my slab pieces with feet will often lie unevenly on flat surfaces because of mild inevitable warping during drying. Stoneware pieces would probably settle nice and flat during firing but not my earthenware. How would you try and rectify this? Thank you so much!

    • @Vsmithpots
      @Vsmithpots  Месяц назад

      If you can send a photo of the pieces I will ponder this one. I bisque at cone 01 and glaze at cone 04 where I stilt the pieces for glaze firing. I do not get any warping even on plates and platters.

    • @jsdhornby
      @jsdhornby Месяц назад

      @@Vsmithpots Thank you! The piece is in the kiln for a cone 06 bisque right now, but I'll send you a picture when it's out.

    What is the material you made your forms out of? Did you cut them with a band saw?

    • @Vsmithpots

      Yes a band saw, out of insulation sheet foam for house construction.

      It looks good but the cost is prohibitive to ship 4000miles. I found it for $48 plus tax and shipping. Thanks I may ask PSH if they might make a similar clay type.
