71 year old BTS Army here. You are correct in your analysis of "fallen angel" and "Romeo and Juliet" as by design of the MV director.
This track is totally late 70s, early 80's Retro disco funk and was announced as a subtle homage to MJ. This is his third mega hit after "Seven Feat Latto" that is now Platinum, and "3D Feat Jack Harlow". All are from his first solo album "GOLDEN" and just so you know, none of JK's solo releases have anything to do with Kpop (Korean Pop) other than JK is S. Korean. All of JK's solo releases including his just released album "Golden" are all in English. There are no S. Korean songwriters, producers, recording studios or MV shooting directors or locations, etc. He is blowing past Kpop and jumping head first into the American pop market. He is using American Grammy Award winning songwriters, producers, recording in the U.S. and filming at mostly U.S. locations such as Universal Studios in Hollywood. This original MV track, however, is filmed in and around an abandoned power plant in Budapest, Hungary. The director is a very notable Ukrainian director who has directed for Harry Styles and many others. The Official Usher Remix Performance Video of "Standing Next to You" is filmed in L.A. and I highly recommend you react to it.
His self professed dream of being a giant pop star has clearly took off in a big way. BTW, there are now several live performances. iHeart Radio, Jimmy Fallon Show, The Today Show, and there is a KILLER Official Choreo Version. He recently performed 5 songs at the TSX stage in Times Square, NYC. Only the third artist to ever been invited to perform there besides Post Malone and Pdiddy performed at least one song after being awarded the "Key to the City" by the Mayor(NYC).
The Usher Remix Performance Video of this song is ICONIC and a dream come true for JK. It is also included on Usher's new album dropping soon. JK's solo achievements are the biggest of the seven BTS members amazing solo releases.
ALL of BTS members are in the military now for 18 months as of Dec.12 including Jung Kook. They will reunite as BTS in 2025.
JK's solo album "Golden" is over 2.5 billion streams now since Nov. 2. FYI, the American team of Grammy winner Andrew Watt, Cirkut, (and others) wrote and produced this song and it was recorded in Watt's studio in L.A. They also wrote and produced his first mega hit "SEVEN Feat Latto". Credited on the "Golden" album besides Andrew Watt, John Bellion, and Canadian Cirkut is Shawn Mendes for "Hate You" and Ed Sheeran for "Yes or No". Ed Sheeran also plays guitar on the track. There are several other notable credits/collabs on the album.

So the wings have 2 meanings. The director of the mv was inspired by Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet. The mv visually looks very similar to the movie. When Romeo and Juliet first meet, she is wearing wings. The director said Jungkook was Romeo, but because there are tons of references to wings in BTS's catalog, he wore them for symbolic reasons.

His new Album GOLDEN was released in Nevember and has broken so many records already. Considering he is not fluent in English, the whole Album is in English. He understands and can read basic English but struggles in interviews to try and put sentences together, but he is getting so much better with it especially during all his promotion work for this Album. You’re right, the mv director said this is her version of Romeo and Juliet inspired by Baz Luhrmann’s own version. So where Clare Danes Juliet wore tiny white wings in Luhrmann’s version, we have JK in black wings in this version. It really is not a throwback to Black Swan as others have suggested. Just as the fight effectively represents the fight between the two houses of Capulet and Montague. Yes, JK is the main singer of the group and Jimin is the lead singer. Y’all should watch him live. Best vocals are iHeart (Standing Next to You”, “Seven” and “Hate You”), Audacy Radio, Jimmy Fallon). He also gave a surprise performance on Time Square. The whole album, “Golden”, is really good. His first song, “Seven” feat. Latto holds the record for the fastest song to 1 Billion streams.

RM is the Group Leader, Main Rapper of BTS, and Jungkook is the Main Vocalist, Group Center, and a lead Dancer. All of the BTS members have amazing star quality, and charisma. They excel in what they do. And their solo projects are all different. You should check them out.
By the way, you got the meaning. It was a reference to the Romeo and Juliet story. The back drop of the stage was just like the stage in the 1996 version with Leonardo DiCaprio and Clare Danes. And Clare Danes wore a which dress with white wings. Jungkook is saying that the setting is in a Dystopian world without love, and in the midst of it, the guy and girl find love in each other, and he is stating that he will stand next to you in the fire, meaning any bad situation. He will be there standing next to you.
Wings appears in Black Swan, Blood Sweat and Tears and appears in some videos. BTS has the BU universe that runs through their music videos.

There are a handful of theories about the black wings.
You'll find that they appear in various ways throughout past videos, including the short film for JK's solo song Begin from waaaaaay back in the day (it's part of their fictional storyline that has been running for years and years, so it might be confusing if you look into it).
If you haven't already, I (and probably everyone) highly recommend watching Taylor's Guide to BTS. It will give you such insight into the group, their abilities, and many many snippets and samples of their work to choose from.
