@@neobeinghuman you're tone deaf. But lemme make it simple so that you're law intellect can understand. 1. This song is sung on the western major scale of D. Both hallelujah and Ode to a sunny don't have any notes that are outside the major scale, which is surprising cause there are no 'blue notes' in the instrumental section despite it being a bleusey song, by a band named blackstrat blues. 2. The Indian scales do not follow the western major scale, they have notes that are "outside the confines of the major scale" and that dissonance is the notes she's singing. With that being said, she is on key, but some parts especially when she first starts does sound off with the chord changes because, she's not singing the notes in the major scale. But that dissonance is what gives the song it's quality. I'm not here dissing this wonderful peice, I'm just making an observation as a music lover, musician and producer.
I love many other versions of Hallelujah composed by Leonard Cohen, to me the best one is sung by Rufus Wainwright. This composition is just another interpretation of the song. Warren's beautiful guitar and Prasanna ji's soulful bansuri took it to a different level, love this rendition.
Through my toughest days, last phase of my PhD, I rediscovered Leonard Cohen and kept on listening to his poetries and found solace. I think he saved my life. I believe Cohen is immortalised by Karsh, Shilpa's Desh and Warren's ode to a sunny day... I think i listened to this version when i was a undergrad student... I aged, the song didn't and never will.
3:02 This is it! If you came here for this, check out the real deal Ode to a Sunny Day. This 2.5 minutes solo is the foreplay to that 10 minutes eargasm.
well done! Karsh Shilpa and Co. Maintains the emotion of the original. Those being "harsh on karsh" may stay listening to the original. Art is about freedom.
love how the flute just rides into the acoustic guitar sounds in the beginning. The vocals are just perfect. Guitar solo's got much soul n control... too good. And to all those who think Shilpa Rao's voice is off when she enters, you must be TONE DEAF. Haven't u heard of blue note or that brown note? GREAT FUSION work. REFRESHING !
Wow!! warren mendoza is the most amazing guitarist in india! Listened to him around 10 years back!! and still smitten by his music!! nice work shilpa too :)
whoah!! what fusion man..this is just epic..shilpa rao perfectly singing one of my fav songs from umrao jaan...karsh's great vocals and awesome piano sounds from his nord...terrific guitar solo by warren..awesome chorus..these guys have nailed music...hats off!!
Epic! One of the best versions of this song around... seamless travel between two songs, never seemed two different ... and Shilpas Jhoola is abs fine, its just that we are so used to traditional 135 harmonies that it might throw you off when coming from hallelujah to Jhoolah , but its abs fine and that's why its good composition :-).. this episode is so good to hear after the utterly let down one from EL. ... .
Brilliant. Seriously. Its taken me a few times to listen to this and I can now appreciate the complexities and layers of this song. So proud of you Karsh.
I call myself a novice. All I know is when i like music, I like it. And this, I really like. :) Thank you Karsh Kale. For everyone who is criticizing their beautiful attempt and success, please dont be so negative. Music is the only thing that binds us so refrain from drawing your straight lines across such beautiful creations, please respect art in whatever form it is. :)
incredible! why can't we have more brilliant music like this instead of all the wrongly popular ones. cheers to projects like this and bands like Parvaaz, A mutual question and PCRC and many other bands to composing sensible music despite the odds.
souvik bhattacharya it's actually Karsh Kale's song. Warren is a part of the Karsh Kale Collective. They have given him due credits, but since it's Karsh Kale's song, no other artist can get the title credit.
The world has enough K.D, Jeff and Rufus covers and after a while one gets jaded. But tailoring a set of words to another brilliant instrumental ( Ode to...) and weaving an absolutely beautiful melody overlaid with a subtle hint of the old pentatonics, now that is music. To all who wish this was a derivative cover of the others, better an original blunder than a borrowed fix. ( Not implied in any way that this cover was a blunder)
Not all covers work. And this is one of them. Period. Its a song that has always left its listeners with goosebumps. This one didn't. Its.... just not the version I would find myself listening to with tears in my heart.
+GirlOfFire01 you will not understand the beauty of this as soon as you said guitar was loud. That Guitar solo is enough for Musicians to be in happy tears no words or vocals are important. But otherwise I found the song not so great so no complains on the song issues.
+Navneet Kash Please - I dont need someone to tell me what I find beautiful or not. I am quite aware of my preferences. And I personally dont find this rendition 'great' enough to bring me to tears.
Everything was good and all but then comes Warren with he's guitar solo and goes to a whole different realm that's when you realize he is class apart... With all due respect this version is good but Ode to a Sunny Day is a masterpiece
bless these performers....man....the guitarist and both singers.....my goodness.....depth of feeling.....the blending of Indian classical...the fusion...mankind can live together in peace for thousands of years to come.....if we do this.....simple.
She's just gone into a different raaga and comes back. She's not off. She's friggin pitch perfect.
Diffrent scales. But it sounds off because she's not singing the same notes as the western major scale. So it is off key.
Definitely sounds off and kinda ruins the beauty of hallelujah
@@samuelstephen3416 bollocks.. she is pitch perfect

This guitar solo is something which hasn't been topped by anything made in India yet
Karsh Kale's voice is sublime. Also the brilliant ode to a sunny day...Warren is the man.
