VoicePlay are my favorite acapella group. They're completely independent and do almost everything themselves from arrangement to video editing. They're each multitalented.
This one is from pandemic time and that's why they filmed separately. Eli (high tenor) created the background scenes. You'll see almost the same costumes in Valhalla Calling which is entirely epic.
They cover many videogame themes; Halo, Enemy, and Still Alive come to mind as video themes.

Geoff is tough to emulate using throat bass... he's using a subharmonic for that low note. Plus, Geoff actually knows how to beatbox, which is why he is able to do those epic choppy basslines... but is using mostly chest voice to do them and not throat bass.

Since you said you really like the Viking stuff, I suggest you check out their cover of "Valhalla Calling" (by Miracle of Sound). They did it as a kind of follow up to this cover. I think it is pretty 'epic'. I would appreciate your comments on Layne's beatboxing in it and I'm sure you will really enjoy Geoff's low notes.
Another one that I would love your beatboxing comments on would be their cover of White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army". I swear at points in it that Layne was possessed. And he manages something that sounds like a synthesizer (at least I think it is him - although it might be a combo of several voices). It is a very different version of that song. One of my very fave VP songs.

You're one of the very few reactors I've heard able to replicate Geoff!! Well done!! Geoff is just pronounced "Jeff". Eli is pronounced like ELLIE, not E-Lie. Great reaction!

Jose joined them again for Drunken Sailor. No matter what you think they are going to do with it, you are wrong. It is fabulous!!!

It's Layne beatboxing throughout, just not always on screen.

I think he was talking about the claps and stomps in the beginning.

We need to recommend some songs where Layne brings out the big gun beat-boxing as that is your specialty? I need to go see which VP songs you have already done... Thank you for the reaction - you have a great voice too! 🌹🕊

I really enjoyed your reaction- thanks! I am a new subscriber looking forward to more of your reactions and informative analysis of Voice Play. This cover was done during the pandemic so they filmed separately. It is from the "Assassin's Creed" game and considered a prequel to their newer cover of "Valhalla Calling", also from "Assassin's Creed" game with all the same characters in same costumes coming back (Cesar is in that one wearing the hooded robe that Jose is wearing here). Check out Voice Play's cover of "Valhalla Calling"- I promise you will love it!😃

Covid is a valid assumption, but incorrect. They were all at Pattycake Studios for this filming.
Eli did all the backgrounds in Unreal Engines and they were clothed in materials from their environments. So they were filmed separately to allow for the backgrounds.

I equate dissonance as it feeling uncomfortable before it resolves. Haha I get what you’re putting down…not everything that is dissonant will sound good for sure. Voiceplay is definitely well versed in their music theory.

VP cover of Metallica's Nothing Else Matters is great.
If you are interested in throat singing, take a listen to/ react to a Mongolian throat singing folk metal band called The HU Band- Wolf Totem, Wolf Totem ft. Jacoby Shaddix Sugaan Essena: from "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order" , they have several others that its so hard to just pick a few to suggest. Enjoy.
    I enjoy your reactions!!❤
