I totally think Luffy (or everyone in general) was funnier back then but I think that's because they were practically children. And not to mention that after the time skip, or even the general trauma the crew went through (mainly Luffy), it's bound to tighten them up. Either way, I love them 💓
Is true they still have funny moments but because it was older animation the face expressions were more whacky and dumb which is what made it funnier plus now there's really not enough time for comedy because situations are so tense and serious where they are at now in the new world
I just never believe in the "because they are in new world they are more serious" as a good excuse for the lack of spontaneous and wholesome comedy and funny moments. New OP doesnt have as much good crew interactions because Oda is rushing everything focusing on making them strong and fight without giving them moments about bonding
