HI Anna, I will be joining you again for the new hair growth challenge. Thank you for doing this! I am kind of confused about hair masks. I've seen them used before shampooing, between shampooing and conditioning or just after shampooing with the mask used as conditioner. Can you address this at some point please? I ordered some star anise essential oil, I have avocado oil in the kitchen cupboard. I am a little concerned about the heaviness with castor oil as my hair is fine, thin and very light colored. I dont want to have to wash it 3 or more times to get it out as happened in the past when I used a castor oil based scalp treatment that was pretty thick (It was Aunt Jackie's Balance Oil).
Castor oil can be super heavy so maybe just dilute it with more carrier oil! I did 1 tbsp of castor oil for 2 tbsp of carrier oil, but you can dilute it even more if you're concerned. Also just apply a small amount of oil so that it's not difficult to wash out, my hair is also on the finer side so it gets weighed down really easily. When it comes to the hair masks, it really depends on the mask! Oil treatments should be applied pre-shampoo. Store bought masks can be used pre-shampoo or in between shampoo and conditioner. I always like to follow up hair masks with my conditioner to lock in the moisture from the mask, but it's your preference :)

Is there any other substitute for avocado oil and star anise essential oil ?
Feel free to use any carrier oil that you’d like instead of avocado oil, and you can replace the star anise with any other stimulating oil! Peppermint or rosemary are nice alternatives :)
