Ridiculous amount of money. The irony is that you most likely would have paid all that money and spent 4 years at Tufts while hearing absolutely nothing about how chewing, oral posture and oral habits factor in for a growing persons jaw and craniofacial development. Glad to hear that you still are becoming a dentist/orthodontist. Society will need a lot of doctors like you.
You are absolutely right. And this is one reason why as much as I am drawn to dental school, I am also repelled away from it, like to north poles of a magnet. It would really suck to have to unlearn this stuff for four years. While simultaneously going into exorbitant amounts of debt.
You're absolutely correct and on the money with everything. Some people unfortunately can't risk applying again because their stats aren't the greatest. Some people can't apply again because of the cost. Some people can't apply again because of having taken the dat the maximum amount of times. Also, it's always risky reapplying to schools especially if you apply to the same ones again as a safety net. I'm also natively from Texas, but I was competing for 300 seats among 3000+ applicants. I did also get in out of state when I was 25. I decided to do it because of some of the aforementioned reasons. I wish you the best of luck, I try my best to guide students into dental school. If you need anything or want advice please let me know. And I pray you get into the dental school of your dreams that is best for you. Thanks again for making this very important video!
That is crazyyy amount of money.. but good decision. Did you consider studying in Europe? Or Asia? I bet it is much cheaper and we have great schools here!
The debt is definitely insane. But I would like to add that you do make that money back. If you're specializing, you're going to be making about 250-320k STARTING. over 20-40 years, you can def enjoy a luxurious lifestyle while still paying off all student loan debt
Yeah but who wants to spend 10-20 years paying off debt! When you factor in the interest, you'll end up paying almost double what the degree actually cost smh.
If u went to Tuft you would realistically have 450-500k debt and one year headstart in dental school instead of waiting for the next cycle. Plus if u become a dental surgeon u can easily make 250-350k per year. So roughly $18k with taxes so pay $5k a month on loans and $13k on whatever u would want.
Also I’m sure there’re plenty of capable families out there who probably still shake their heads at these outrageous costs even though they can afford it!
i'm a dentist and I regret it, graduated at 25 year old felt relieved that i'm finally done, definitely considering changing my career path to health policy and management rather than applying to a residency program.
Similar to OP I also received a conditional guarantee but am unsure because of the debt. What do you regret about being a dentist? Isn't the income and prestige nice, alongside with the ability to help people clinically?
@@christan5777 I simply don't like the job itself . Obviously it's very technical and the money isn't nearly enough compared to effort and hard work you put into it. Plus most patients are unappreciative or scared of dentist which is a bothersome. On the other-hand I have colleagues who like the profession and are considering residency programs, this is just my personal experience and feelings toward dentistry.
Hi Ron. I have sent you an interesting finding regarding your video on sleeping positions as a message on facebook(name: Andrea). Also consider opening a patreon - the content you've provided to patients and into research is amazing
Thank you man this is a great tip. I started working on my Patreon page yesterday. Any ideas on what type of content people would be willing to pay for?
I know man. California has a couple of state schools that are relatively expensive but still cheaper than most private schools. They may be good options for you.
On the plus side, as a long time viewer the changes in your face keep getting more apparent after every video break. Now with the MSE you can really see the midface develop and widen
Really unfortunate, the big debts that dental students face stifle progress, why go against the grain when you have the possibility of losing your license and be left with a huge debt? It's understandable why people in the medical and dental field are so dogmatic in their views, they've gone into enormous amounts of debt only for them to be possibly wrong. It's a means to an end, don't let schooling suck out your passion and interfere with your education. Best of luck to you.
I will apply to cheaper schools in the next application cycle. I had a linkage offer to Tufts which would have saved me a slide year. But I can do a lot with a year off so no big deal.
Ronald Ead Have you looked into the colleges in the Virgin Islands or some islands around there, they have an MD program. It’s significantly less money or so I’ve heard
I'm in dental school right now in Texas. You're a smart dude almost no one thinks about the debt.

Raw milk is much cheaper, and sun is free.

It's been about a year since this video. How's it going? Are you planning on applying for colleges and scholarships early 2021?
That's crazy! I still hope you become an ortho/oral surgeon. You are the right guy for the job.

good luck with your channel, thanks for dropping in
Would you have gone to Tufts if you weren't planning on doing a residency?
Hi, what did you get a degree? & how competitive are post bacc programs?
Thanks for sharing.. makes a lot of sense..

What about a less costly school??
people work until they are 60-70 years old. If you get a degree at 40, you still have 30 years to practice what you love
I love this!!!!!
Did you ever consider military practice?
Any update?

cl123 no only General basic dentists typically make that amount.
Did you apply again?
Do what’s right for you and your budget. If you’re passionate and great at what you do, you’ll always get work regardless of the school you went to.

Thiago Andrade hi Thiago! I don’t speak Portuguese unfortunately. Um pouco mais não muito. But my parents do and are from Mainland!

Thanks man this really means a lot. You hit in on the head.
All graduate schools are getting way too fucking expensive. If you dropped out at any year, that would be financially devasted.
You’re a smart dude. Shits a scam. Realistically you’d have to be on income-driven repayment, as you probably wouldn’t be able to pay that debt back.
I’m glad you didn’t do what the system wanted you to , a degree is a degree it shouldn’t matter where you studied
Go to a state school. Check out UTHSC UT Health science center
I appreciate that but there are no state schools in Massachusetts and to establish residency in a different state would require several years.
@@JawHacks what a rip off. Would you ever consider moving away and living in another state?

The more expensive and hard is something to get, the more useless it is.
