    It looks like a cool little bike. I am looking forward to hearing more about the electric bike project.

      Cheers mate! Yeah, it's been in the works for a while, the goal is to make something a bit more motorcycle-ish rather than electric bike...

    Hi, Nice one Steve !! you'll need a bigger shed and trailer hahh, I;ve been working on my cx500 today and something similar with the carbs, it's been eight years in a shed. Lots of projects in your garage...lovely.
    Our garages are a good therapy for this lockdown. Thanks , Gus

    Hey this is awesome! I'm working on building my kz200 into a cafe racer as well! Going to following this series very closely. Are you putting the air box back in? Or is that what the cone filter is replacing?

    • @Beachmangarage
      @Beachmangarage  4 года назад

      Thanks! Yes, going with pod filter for the carbs. Will probably need new jetting.

    I love my 1975 kz400s. I can't wait to start riding it when the weather is nice. I have a weird issue though. When the bike sits for a few weeks it won't start up because the points gap has closed by itself. Now it doesn't even open at all when turning the crank so I don't have a starting point to adjust the gap. It's strange, why would that even happen?

      @Beachmangarage  4 года назад

      Wow, that’s one I’ve never heard of before! Are you in or near Toronto? I have a spare kz400 motor in the pile that needs a home. Free for the taking. How old are the points? My CT90 points were so worn that they hardly moved anymore...

      @@Beachmangarage in seattle, engine runs strong, probably original points 10,000 mi looks good. I already have a new points and condenser I'll have to put it on. But wierd because I adjust the gap to spec and it runs fine then about a month later after sitting the gap is not there anymore when cranking over. Usually you adjust by stopping crank at widest point gap then adjust, but mine is totally closed through cranking. Now I'm wondering how to find the position on the crank where the gap is suppose to be widest. I have an idea of putting a penny in between the points hoping that spreads open the gap position and I'll be able to see the penny loosen up while cranking. I'm horrible with electronics so I don't know how to adjust points with volt meter. I'm just gonna try my idea then put new points on and see what happens. By the way it's a beautiful cafe racer I did all the work myself.

      Look at the lobe in the center of the points, you will see where it’s slightly egg shaped, that’s the spot that opens your points. That connection point is supposed to have a dab of grease so the connection on the points won’t wear, if it’s dry it may be worn down. New points would correct it. Use that lobe to set your gap. Also check that the screws that set the points are tight. Maybe they are moving slightly as the bike warms but it takes a while to present the problem. Let me know how it goes.

      @@Beachmangarage thanks that's good info. I'll definitely try that and let you know. I'll probably work on it in a month or so. I'm not a year round rider like some people are in seattle area, I don't know how they do it with our weather.
