I have fond memories of my time reading history at Birkbeck, and want to thank them for the extra financial support provided when I was struggling in my final year! Would highly recommend recommend Birkbeck to anyone considering doing an evening degree! 🎉❤

I am a Birkbeck graduate - twice over actually! - and I absolutely love the institution. My degrees have proven life changing, and have opened up so many doors, providing me with a wealth of opportunities. It is so good to see how many of the familiar spaces I once knew as a student have grown to offer yet more to enjoy, and all within easy reach. I highly recommend studying at the College! :)

That sounds amazing! Which programmes did you study? Which career did you end up pursuing as a result of those degrees?

@@PaperClipFlip Yes, it really was. Granted working full-time and studying part-time dampens your social life a little, but then it increases it in others too, since you meet many peers on your course that become friends later :) I studied law as my most recent degree, a conversion LLM. I went on to a postgrad research degree (PhD) after that and became an academic lawyer. However, my earlier studies in sciences saw colleagues undertake training as a psychologist, nurse, graduate entry medicine, accountancy. So it depends on your intended use. They have a good careers team for advice, if required. Either way, I have never once regretted my investment in studies and degree attainment there, and have gone back on some part-time courses out of interest since (e.g. anthropology etc). Good luck! :)

@@kieranleemarshall1623 Wow! Thanks so much for the detailed response. This was so helpful! So, if I understood correctly, you studied (or were working in?) science before you did the conversion LLM? Did you feel like it adequately prepared you for the change? Especially for the PhD, did you feel it was enough preparation? (and did you pursue a PhD right after?)
That's really inspiring. I'm thinking of doing the conversion in psychology in the hopes of becoming a psychologist.

@@PaperClipFlip No worries at all, you're very welcome; one needs to share the learning bug somehow! :) As it happens, I did a sciences BA before my studies at BBK - also as a mature student and access course, since I possess no GCSEs or A/O Levels or the EU equivalent -- and I studied the BSc psych degree (with some science options on top... BBK psych sciences then had some collaborations with other Schools and probably still does), since I originally planned to study microbiology MSc and then pursue a place PG medicine I had applied for and been granted. The psych dept has an outstanding reputation and is very well known for its research; it often produces grads that go on to doctorates in psychology (clinical, counselling etc) or become leading researchers around the world. Many of the talented and lovely names that taught me (in psych sciences and other depts) are still there, with it attracting yet more talented profs. Of course, the better you perform on a BSc, or later MSc (relevant to psychology but not to law, my current prof), the more likely it is you will secure a funded PhD if you pursue a research degree. Most professional psych practice doctorate programmes are part funded by the NHS - see the BPS and HCPC guidance on approved courses and example universities, such as UCL, KCL, Leeds, Edinburgh, etc. I pursued my PhD (not psychology) a year after the LLM, since I continued a job promotion soon after, and wanted a year out, but I applied for my place right after, to ensure I had done the leg work on admin and funding applications -- a matter of making my life a little easier than being well organised, if I must confess. Most who take a year out do the same, whatever their reason for taking a year out (break, family, work etc). BBK and their BSc degree is very sciences driven (or was in my day) and was very numbers focused too, but their classes and training on this was very good, and helped me think critically and evidentially. Drop them a line. They are very friendly. I strongly encourage anyone thinking of pursuing a career to consider this route. Hope this helps! :)

Went to their open day and was disappointed at the graffiti and other mess over amazing historic buildings with tents put up, to add to that there was a guy campaigning for Israel at the front of the building with a large flag very loudly. Lecturer wise I was impressed as for all the subjects I went to they seemed to be very good at what they did. In short good lecturers / staff but riddled with campaigners poisoning the open day experience.
