The eighth concerto in G minor is, like the first seven, a church concerto whose movements preceded by tempo indications in Italian alternate between slow and lively tempos, homophonic and imitative writing. The work Fatto per la Notte di Natale is structured in six movements. The final Pastorale, which justifies its subtitle « For Christmas Eve » is linked to the last Allegro, contrasting by its tonality in G major and its tender swaying with of the musette sonorities. The Allegro - Largo (Pastorale ad libitum) evokes the lovely nativities that the Italian painters of this period, such as Antonio Balestra and others, bequeathed to us. Its date of composition is uncertain, but there is a document according to which Corelli performed a Christmas concerto in 1690 for the pleasure of his new patron, Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni. The twelve concertos are structured in two parts: the first eight of which are concerti da chiesa while the last four are concerti da camera. These Concerti which form this opus constitute in fact the apogee of this musical form of the Baroque era, at the same time as a testimony to the exceptional talent as a violinist and conductor that this Italian composer possessed. The First fast Movemen t Are too Fast in my opinion, I dislike it when music is brushed off like this., like heading towards the end in a hurry as if some perceived would close.The real Spirit I love in this Piece comes out lateron.As you can Tell when played less fast the Sound does’nt disappear immediately. That’s why the Sound of the Steel strings ( modern) in contrast to the gut strings ( old Style) Lasts longer, só usually the old fashioned way of playing is faster is unnecessary hurrying : the Sound lasts nevertheless.

When I was a boy, I toured as part of The American Boychoir, with The Atlantic Brass to promote the "Trumpets Sound, Voices Ring: A Joyous Christmas" album; their (Joseph Foley, specifically) arrangement of this concerto for brass quintet (with organ/continuo) was my introduction to this absolute treasure of a composition. I got to hear it over and over during the tour and have continued to listen to it every holiday season since that tour in Winter 1992. For some reason, I never checked out the original until this year... Such beauteous sound and joyful performing! Bravi Tutti!!!
The music of the Baroque and in particular Corelli has enriched my life beyond measure. This beautiful piece, the Christmas Concerto is my favorite and never fails to make me realize what his genius was, and is.

En plus j'ai pu connaître la Slovénie fin des années 1970 lors de rencontres musicales internationales, nous avions logé le long d'un fleuve à Maribor, nous avons pu constater les qualités musicales Slovènes surtout en petites formations comme celle-ci, très bon équilibre entre les instruments solistes et l'ensemble. Nous avions fait une tournée dans l'ancienne Yougoslavie et Trieste en Italie, sous la direction Musicale d'Igor Djadrof chef Yougoslave ! Bravo.
