I drive through a few of these areas on the regular, and I can agree with a lot of the assessments here. I've had to explain to people more than a few times I live in West-ERN Baltimore, not West Baltimore, because a lot of folx seem to think they're the same thing. Hell, I did too when I moved down here. Took me a while to take note of all the different neighborhoods and communities. But I frequently find myself in Greenmount and Rosemont, and the state of those neighborhoods...tragic.

Right on…200+ neighborhoods in Bmore, but you’re right about Rosemont & Greenmount - ROUGH! 2 blocks over from Greenmount and you’re in some of the most swank areas of Baltimore. I do love my City, but be smart as in any City.

Nobody lives in Fairfield.. have you ever even been back there? Fairfield and wagners point were the only neighborhoods there and they were demolished in the 90’s..

Good to know that none of the neighborhoods I even have a desire to pass through are on this list. I live in the Inner Harbor. West Baltimore is the only place near me and it isn't high on my list of places to go.

I totally agree with you...no doubt I'm biased having been Born & Raised in Bmore, but you have it all in Baltimore - prime location, urban living, water lifestyle to the country and its affordable. Stay tuned, Mr. Ortman!

Like your videos but why do this video? There many many many purveyors of hate when it comes to Baltimore who push this kind of stuff out - that is only talk about the dangers of Baltimore. Sure, I’ve seen your other very positive videos about the city but no need to pile on with respect to the bad. Secondly, the crime rates that you espouse as the “national average” include every little hamlet from Nantucket to Boise, Idaho. So, if you’re going to compare crime rates compare like to like such as compare these inner city neighborhoods to other similar neighborhoods in any similar neighborhood where there is disinvestment, low education and other socio-economic conditions that plague these types of neighborhoods around the nation, or around the world for that matter, and you will find that the crime rates in those similar communities are the same. In other words, compare “apples to apples”.
Finally, because I live in Baltimore, the area that you highlight as West Baltimore, all east of MLK, should not be included. The area that you highlighted includes the Convention Center, the University of MD at Baltimore, University Hospital, many market rate apt buildings including the newly office to multifamily conversion on Howard Street where tons on UMMS medical and law school students live, the Hippodrome Theater, Everyman Theater etc etc etc. This area is known as the “West Side”, The Bromo District (formerly Market Center). It is included in the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore’s “downtown management district” where there is an additional surcharge that businesses in the area pay, as part of a B.I.D. (Business Improvement District) for extra street cleaning, tour/safety guides, street landscaping and facade improvements, etc. The drag in the area continues to be Lexington Market but the redevelopment of the market (which I think was poorly conceived and ripped out a part of Baltimore’s ethnic and cultural heritage), the CFG Bank Arena, the Radisson/Holiday Inn Hotel conversion to Vivo Apts (about 2 blocks east), the Holiday Inn on Lombard St conversation to apts, the approval of the “Superblock “ redevelopment at Howard & Fayette St and many other great things that are happening will totally reinvigorate what was once Baltimore’s retail hub.
The “West Baltimore” that you speak of does exist but it is many blocks west of the area that you highlighted.
So if you’re going to do these vids be accurate. Again, I’ve watched many of your videos and I enjoy them. But when I see something that isn’t accurate and unnecessarIly or incorrectly shines a dim light on our fare city, I’m going to speak on it my friend.
    Peace brother! ✌🏽✌🏽

Well noted and I appreciate your input. I cringed when I put this video out (I truly LOVE my Baltimore), and concur with you regarding the purveyors of hate for our beloved Baltimore. I am not here to highlight the negative to get views or Subscribers. But, I will tell the good, bad and ugly. One thing for certain and I agree with you, I can be more pointed and not generalize “West Baltimore” - you were right on the money, and I was wrong (apologies). I do appreciate you took the time to reach out because it tells me you care. My Man…thank you, Sir!

So I am coming soon to see an Orioles game. I’m staying at the Hilton that looks down into Camden Yards. I’ve been told that the area around there even though it’s a tourist area can be quite unsafe. I’m going to be there for a few days and had thought about maybe doing other things besides the game. Should I just avoid venturing out even in that immediate area and just stay in my room besides the game? I heard you mention the Ravens and I know I will be able to see their stadium from my room. Sorry I have never been to Baltimore and am curious to hear the truth from a local.

the area around Camden Yards has a strong police presence and you will be fine. Venture out and check out Fells Point (great pubs, music, cobblestone streets and restaurants along the Patapsco River), Harbor East, Locust Point (Ft McHenry National Monument and go to Barracudas for lunch) and if you have a car, roll down to Annapolis for the day along the Chesapeake Bay - you'll love it!
