This guy inspired me to play guitar, and i reckon he's pretty fuckin' good. Can't we just listen to the music, because no matter what your tastes, you have to admit, after listening to his material on the Escape The Fate records, his soloing and riffs are pretty descent, looking at them from a hard rock/heavy metal perspective.
I'm honestly not a fan of escape the fate or other similar bands, but at least I can admit that this guy is a good guitarist. Just because you don't like a band or their fanbase doesn't mean that they're bad at their instruments.

I checked the video since Ive never herard of them before. They are very young and I think they have a bright future ahead of them. Their sound is great.

Lol drop D IS drop tuning. Tuning it down half steps or full steps or however many steps down is what brings it to stuff like drop C, Drop C# drop B etc
a band isn't about the members,it's about the music no matter how the band member changed,as long as they still produce good music,they can call the band whatever they want

For those who are asking how to pick properly, down stroking is amateurish and eventually when it gets time to play big boy songs you won't be able to play more difficult passages or runs until you learn that alternate picking is the proper way, not what "feels" good.
Using only downstrokes provides a much more consistent heavy sound/attack, in case you didn't realize... It's all about producing the sound and tone that you're looking for, not what's considered correct. And if you're interested, he does alternate pick the chords for the chorus lol
Down stroking is amateurish? Not sure if you're being facetious here but this is really bad advice as down picking is certainly not amateurish. When it comes down to leads and playing fast passages - yes you need some sort of economy picking or at the minimum alternate picking. But riffs involving the lower strings sound heavier and thicker when only downpicked.
