I completely agree with your review and I am on the cusp of buying this. The price is quite steep though. Even at 80$ some reviewers are saying it is still not worth it. Love to hear your opinion on this. Thank you!
$80 is pretty steep. I really enjoy the game, but I'm sure the price will come down after a few months. That being said, I'm quite happy with the game. For me, it was worth the price.
I can vouch for the quick turns, except for players that get analysis paralysis from the wide variety of choices of what face to upgrade. I just feel the next level for this game could be coop scenerios with a campaign story or something. Otherwise one game can feel quite like the next, with little player interaction as players are looking down at the dice their whole turn and not talking much.
Terrific review! So, it uses the same dice system as another game called Rattlebones which also has you upgrading the faces on the dice. Have you tried it? It's a strange game, the theme is really weird, indeed it actually puts me off playing it. I'd like to give this one a go, I must keep an eye out for it.
I haven't played Rattlebones, but I do like Dice Forge, which has the customizable dice. I think that Dice Realms plays much faster than Dice Forge, which makes me want to pull it out more often...
Played this game the other day. I won, but I didn’t feel like I was following any strategy. One thing this game makes me miss is all those delectable dice in Quarriors.
I have played the first setup about five times and am only tired of it now, so there is a lot of replay ability for people who kinda like the game, which I do
Good to hear! I'd suggest playing through all the suggested combinations of the extra dice you use in the game, too. It's listed on the back of the two-sided technology tree aid cards. They each have a slightly different feel and a unique dynamic.
I was at the game store and conflicted between Dice Realms and Dice Forge in terms of trying a game with upgradable dice. Which would you recommend for a family of 4 who likes mid-weight games, and why?
Based on your situation, I'd recommend Dice Forge because it suits 4 players better and (to me) is more complex and longer (despite BGG ratings which say the opposite). Overall, Dice Forge suits a mid-weight game style and Dice Realms a slightly lighter mid-weight game style. Plus, with Dice Forge being a little older, you might just find it for a better price than Dice Realms, which is hot right now.
@@TabletopTolson thank you for the well thought out reply! Upgrading die faces seems a little gimmicky, but it’s one we’d like to try. Gonna miss out on that sweet bag if I go for Dice Forge though…haha!
I'm addicted to this game because of how fast it plays and how the die faces pop out so easily. Love your reviews!
Good review! I’m looking forward to playing this one.
I thought that 5:07 the grain was cheez-its. I think it's time for an afternoon snack.
Delicious!
Awesome review ❤

I agree with Louis. Maybe hang on for a bit and wait for a good deal to "roll" around.

Cooperative play or a more in-depth campaign/story are great ideas for how to revitalize Dice Realms. Great ideas!!!
Bags are cool.

Quarriors DICE!!!
I wouldn't say the bag is unnecessary. Personally i bought the game just for it jk

It’s dice forge but ugly?
In Dice Realms, you get to play/roll more often and it's overall a faster game. I like both, though:)
