Carol makes a very insightful point about how in this age of "constant comunication" we think we know more people, but in fact actually we know them less. We spend less time connecting with each other in person because we think the internet can replace that, but it can't. So all we are really seeing is words someone has typed, not the individual themselves and we don't really have a clue about how that person is feeling, what they are really thinking etc. We miss all the vital signs that we might otherwise see in person and tragedies like this can happen.
The Internet is a blank canvas. It's potential is huge and is far more seismic than broadcast media (which is all one way) and the most important advance in communications since the invention of printing. With all new technology there are unexpected pitfalls, but people forget that before the net things were actually _worse._ Urban communities were already broken down. School leavers would lose touch with all their school friends. Trust me, talking to friends via sms and Facebook is better than not talking at all. People just need to learn how to use it.
Except she wasn't forgotten, she received letters, voice messages, and eventual calls through the letterbox. Her loved ones thought she was ignoring them and cut them off, her TV was always on, so people that visited thought she was ignoring their calls. Her workplace thought she walked out and her bills were probably on direct debit. Its easier for this to happen than people think. But she was never forgotten. Rest in peace Joyce 💐❤️
What a heart breaking story , such a shame. IMO I feel Joyce had BPD due to childhood trauma with her Mum dying and sexual abuse. My heart break's for Martin as he was the only one at that time who looked after her and loved her a 100 percent, such a lovely man.
Undoubtedly it is a brilliant, thought provoking film but the feeling I took away is that Joyce Vincent had withdrawn and was maybe in hiding because she had just come out of a domestically abusive relationship & didn't want to share this with anybody, including friends & family. Maybe she felt a sense of shame, was too proud or maybe she was in the process of rebuilding her life & wanted to be alone. Some people are like that. I think she had a very good reason & wasn't neglected.
For those friends/followers not to vanish/disappear a certain kind of flag would be needed beside them OR to stand by to; so we may not forget them ever again. Is true from my experience on Twitter I learned a lot from there quotes to stay stronger I really wished sometimes who those people were Or never vanished away in other words.
Dana Davison how? Just saying people that follow and support people are also forgotten sometimes and shouldn't be cause of the support the fans give. And you're video is an inspiration not to give up on the fans Or somehow to remember them. Without them where would people be also, or there films/music/art etc.
Or maybe she could have died from whatever her mother died from.......> I think this is a very important film about everybody, sombody, anybody or someone we all know.
Joyce was to some degree an only child, alone but not lonely. Shame about her and Martin - did he go on to marry and have a family of his own? Bravo to him and the others for allowing themselves to be filmed as it must have been difficult.
This is the best video I have seen from a week or so! I used to get almost 3-4 dreams in a day and some where really fearsome and some inspirational! I did not know what to do! but , i did one good one which is tracked all my dreams using "dreamed" iPhone app by lokesh and then after a month , I showed to a expert and he helped me to transform my life. I have more focus now and more passion in life and less fear!
She might have had a nervous breakdown or just gave up on life. It's easy to do if you have lost touch with parents, family and friends. Certainly she probably had a strong sense of shame that her mother died and her father seemed aloof and distanced from her. She lacked guidance.
The questions are great but I wish the interviewer interacted with Carol better. She could have improvised the questions more. It's quite wooden. It sounds as if she's not really listening and responding accordingly. It is a shame as otherwise it would be a very good interview.
Great film Carol. Really makes you think about society and loneliness.

even in the so-called "real" world you don't know who your friends are; people will pretend to like you for various reasons...

Thank you carol a beautiful even if sad documentary
she was not an "elderly woman"....but a fascinating interview
unnoticed for 3 years ! Wow.
Carol did a great job at bringing the character back to life. Carol if you are reading this please update us with any new information.

A wonderful piece of work.
Such a great filmmaker.

Dana Davison ironic also? Nice interview

This document was released just recent in some countries.
Strange.
i personally agree w/ you.

I wonder if Joyce had a deep depression?

I recommend you watch the 2008 Australian documentary Lake Mungo.
real dark side to this film should be ashamed of your self and her so called friends
The problem with the film is that we don’t know who is talking about her except Martin the loose boyfriend but again not highlighted on the screen.
The film 8mm comes to mind staring Nicolas Cage

Independent filmmakers don't do things for gain, it's utterly the wrong line of work for that.
Elderly? she was 38....
so you basically filmed a news headline? wtf happened to creativity and originality
Personally I think it was a very thought provoking film and well worth making.
The news headline was the trigger. Have you actually watched the film? One wonders…
@@clariceasquith845 it will be shit a woman made it
