    Definitely the saddest episode so far. Seeing Rikka like that :( Truly an emotional episode with an amazing soundtrack.

    i know this sounds stupid but this is one of the best executed scenes i have ever seen in my life about the breakdown of escapism. the way she denies it and then falls on the ground and then screams she knows. it hits me hard because i have experienced this too and its so realistic...

      I think have lived a kind of it too... I lived through an online game, a website where the role-play is very very important. Through the game, I forgot all my real life and I jailed myself into it because I wanted to escape my sad reality. I played it sometimes 16 hours a day... and a day, a RP event made me realise all the bad things about the game I told myself, and I stopped suddenly. The day after, I stopped to play and until now, I feel pain again about this ''game'', which was not a game anymore sometime :-(

Believing in something, living for something and most importantly being happy for it... has no price, and also it's the way to reaching whatever it is you want...

    • @LeonGun8

      It was welldone but the anime kind of tries to excuse escapism as well which just made me not take it as seriously anymore. Once you reach season two you just go "wait, she's STILL a chuunibyou !". The fact most of season two is them trying to "revive the Dark Flame" just makes it even more groan inducing, it just made them pitiful.
      The show should have been about them working to face the issues that led them to keep escaping and hiding in this made up worlds. That it's fine to have imagination but that we have to face reality too. But instead the show ends up excusing escapism as "imagination" and basically allows the characters to shield themselves behind this magical worlds they create in their heads while telling the viewers that it's fine because "it's imagination !".

    • @laughablechimp4787
      @laughablechimp4787 5 лет назад +31

      LeonGun8 The show’s message was that it’s okay to use escapism and be lost in some kind of fantasy world as long as you don’t over do it. That they’re in the end still just kids and are allowed to have fun. It’s something purely innocenct that kids lose when thy grow up and thus they should enjoy it while they still can
      Rikka’s problem wasn’t her chuunibyouness. It was her using it to deny her father’s death.
      You’re right though they fucked up by not toning down Rikka’s chuunibyouness.

    This scene hit me so hard. Sanae really truly believed in her powers. It just tore my heart apart to see the pain on Sanae's face and the hurt in her tears. I really cried on this scene it really killed me to see Yuuta be put in such a difficult situation. Nobody should ever have to go through that. He was a little too harsh on her in my opinion but I know the truth is ugly and I know it took so much for Yuuta to say it. :c

    • @wmfeagin
      @wmfeagin 4 года назад +42

      Harsh, yes - but Yuta is having to accept some hard realities himself: that you have to grow up sometime and face reality, that death is the one thing you cannot change, and that he loves Rikka but can only support her the best way he knows how. And he has to make Sanae see this as well, however much it hurts (and it clearly hurts him as much as it does her).

    The part of this scene that really hit me hard is how far Dekamori would go for Rikka, she's screaming at him, telling him how much she cared and depended on him.. it really shows you that she cares about her so much. And the fact that she starts yelling that she knows it's all not real makes me even more sad, it's like an escape for her. Even though she knows it's not real she continues to "believe" in order to get away from the real world, even though she does act weird, she's really just trying to cope with the stress of real life. There's so much to unravel with her she's honestly my favorite character

    "They don't exist" -Yuuta
    "I know that" -Dekomori
    Everytime I recall this scene, I always remember how heavy it is. For those who are not into this type of series, that conversation would sound silly and nonsense. But I know the characters and how they genuinely enjoy being chuunibyo It's just heartbreaking to hear what Yuuta said and how Dekomori replied. She's aware of reality but that is their way of enjoying life so being told off specially by a person who you trust to understand you're situation, is really sad.
    And seeing our Dekomori cry like that. That's the closest I've tried into making an anime character stop crying.

    I actually was "chuunibyou" in high school. For a bit longer than that, too, since kids with disabilities sometimes take a little while to break ridiculous habits. And I can say honestly that this show, instead of cheaply making fun of these kids, confronts the issue with incredible honesty and makes it true to the feelings you have back then. Because it's never just about "feeling special" or "important." As the ringleader, I actually had the most fucked up life (Besides perhaps my knight, whose life honestly competed handily). I was running away from my Dad's drinking problem and my mother's slow descent into Alzheimer's Disease too early. And their constant fighting and how I had to take care of both of them. I didn't want any of my fellow "soldiers" (XDD) to know about that. About the real reason behind why I did what I did, the lie that I told. So I showed them instead, in the only way I knew how. I showed them what it was like through the delusion: What it's like to love and defend someone who you know is flawed. What it's like to be the "golden child," and yet thus be responsible for the feelings of someone who is supposed to be protecting you. And they showed me, too. In a lot of ways, while my life is stable enough to be rid of any delusions, I miss (ironically) the bald-faced honesty of it. How easy it is to tell the truth through a lie. I think adults could learn something from children about being true to one's feelings.

The entire Judas Contract arc conveys with reasonable accuracy the mixed emotions that result, how it would be so easy if you could decry the things that hurt you as purely evil but you can't (even in that case, where it was more literally true). My Mom passed away in late 2014, around Dec. 2nd or 3rd, so...it's been a good long while since she left the world. What made this scene sad for me was that deko was still in middle school, she has every right to live her youth and imagine, but in this scene it’s clear that yuta drops a wedge deep in her youth and imagination

    • @orboakin8074

      It was for the best. When we are young, it is natural and expected that we embellish in our escapism and fits of fancy. Lord knows I did when I was a kid in Nigeria. Even as an adult, I still relish those memories and still engage in some of those escapist past-times but I still grew up and transitioned into adulthood the healthy way. With Deko, she was embellishing it in the wrong way i.e. being too invested and delusional about it. Had she not had that drop of reality that Yuta gave her, she might grow up to be a poorly adjusted adult.

    This is how one loses their life's enthusiasm and inspiration and becomes colorless, grayscale. This is how depression starts. It is the worst that can happen to a person. Sure, dreams must not interfere with real life problems when situations calls for it, but when its not - dream on with your heart. This is how every big change in the world has been made - because someone truly believed in their dreams and brought them to life, so now we live in their dreams

    The blonde girl is a lot smarter than she looks, and understands more, too. But she lacks the language to explain it.

    Being a chuunibyou at some point in my life , this whole thing is so relatable ... I was confronted more than once about the harsh reality , but it took me a long time to finally accept it . And even then I couldn't let go of the worlds I created in my head . For now they're sealed in a Pandora box that I don't open to anyone except those who truly deserve to peek into it . So far in this whole universe only one person managed to earn the right to do so and that's just because we grew together .
    Watching this as well as anything that deals with the last minutes of childhood sweetness strikes me deep and I find myself tearing up .

    It was sad but for the best.

      Meh, this drama was just so cringeworthy because Yuuta IS in the right. Her father is dead and she has to accept it. She can't live her entire life believing that she will somehow reach the afterlife and find him as if it was some supernatural story.
      If anything, the worst part of the resolution of this story is that Yuuta relents and lets her live in her dream world instead of accepting reality entirely. Because being a chuuni is not a bad thing or some shit like that. That's almost as bad as saying being a NEET or Hikkikomori is not a bad thing either.

      @simpleenough6207 3 года назад +2

      I mean.... Yeah. That's the best you can do for someone that can't tell reality and illusion (going to be an essay). You should understand both side, rikka lost her father so she create an imaginary world to escape reality where her father is gone. She search for unseen horizon to meet her father. But will she find him, no because it's fake. No matter how long she's been searching, ahe can never find it. So for how long do ahe have to search before she stop. What if while she was adventuring she died without speaking a single word to her mother. Do you realize how devastated her family would been cause they can't do anything to stop her. Not just in this anime, they're some people in this world who have chuunibyou but worse. What about their family. Maybe they don't mind being bullied, but what about their sibling. Being bullied just cause their sibling shenanigans. Their parents who will be seen by neighbor as incompetent parents. It's better if you crush their dream early so they can be normal. Being normal isn't that bad. It's not like you can't be weird, you can do it in your room, you don't have to tell others. Just do it for yourself alone for hobby.(2) For togashi is he love her, but he can't tell her what to do, he can only tell her what she should do to make her feel better. Even though he want her to stay with him, he take other people feeling too like rikka sister, mother, and grandparents. He want her to have friends other than him that she can be with even if he's not there for her. (Well I'm bored and sleepy so this is it,, ciao)

That we should pay attention to Dekomori being hurt but ignore the fact that Yuuta is also confused and hurting right now? Would that actually help Rika at all?
      What Yuuta needs is a friend, not someone who would beat him up just because he doesn't want to go along with their fantasies.

    The saddest thing is that they actually *know* all about it. It's not a matter of whether it's real or not, but that they felt so trapped and cornered by their own experience of Reality. These are the things that made them happy because it helped them forget about the sad truths. Reminds me of this one remarkable line from another Anime (unfortunately I could not recall which Anime);

Had she not broken out of chunibyo for the trip to her papa’s grave then she would not have eventually let him go since her imagination would have just kept her escapism going, but her return to chunibyo let her both recover from her papa’s death and be who she wants to be.

    I know that this was all for the greater good. I knew this was supposed to be an eye-opening experience for both of them, where they come to terms with themselves and find a healthy balance between reality and imagination. And they did this scene and all the major character development extremely well, especially showing that Yuuta understood he was taking away Rikka's innocence and was just as distraught as she was.
    But all I could think during this scene was "You should feel bad, you jerk."
