This is quite clever of them, really. It solves multiple problems all at once. It keeps the guests from leaving completely unsatisfied, it fires off the pyrotechnics that are already loaded, and it gives a rare and sporadic treat for hardcore Disney fans to try and experience for themselves. Leave it to Disney to give even rainy days upsides :-)
As a Fantasmic CM, I don't get to see this show often enough. Pretty much combines all of the best parts of Fantasmic into one short show and is SO much better than simply cancelling everything. Thanks for your great work.
This is awesome. Thanks so much for posting it and I'm fascinated that you choreographed and programmed this...I think you have my dream job, ha. Very awesome.
Ahh, my second to last day working at Fantasmic(I worked in food!) had the show be delayed and delayed for over an hour due to terrible thunderstorms - we didn't even let any guests in. They ended up playing the rain show and us food people were the only ones in the amphitheater to watch it. It was the first time I've ever seen a rain show, too. It was the really fun to watch; we all ended up cheering at the very end. The only difference is that there was no narration in the beginning like this. There was just that generic male announcer that said we were going to watch A Taste Of Fantasmic.
They should do something like this with Reflections of Earth (Illuminations) at Epcot. Jim Cummings (the narrator at the beginning) should come on and be like "Due to the weather, we are unable to present Reflections of Earth at this time but we would like to give you How Our Earth was Created" or something like that instead. I think this wouldn't be true because I think they do ROE even in the rain because there's no actual ppl involved.
They can’t really do that since this show is essentially to set of the pyro. With the complex high sky pyro like IRoE, it’s impossible. If they would do a laser show of some sort that wouldn’t work since it’s just not IRoE.
@M1CK3Yanimation It's Little April Showers from Bambi. A shorter clip of that same song appears in the Bubbles scene in the full Fantasmic show (in FL only).
@LihAniaih Erik Moore, one of the show control guys at the show came up with the idea and presented it to Entertainment Management. They pretty much approved it on the spot.
@albert1234o I'm really curious who you were talking to. I AM the guy that programmed the fountains for the rain show and I worked with a small team that did the rest of it. The only intent of this mini-show was to give the audience something to see when we were cancelled for rain but not heavy lightning. Stadium emptiness, late performers, and tech problems were never part of this plan. The beginning is actually April Showers from Bambi which is a part of the Fant "Bubbles" scene.
I dont ever want to see this show in real life I mean its good but that means I will be missing the best show disney has ever created but world of color beats on music but this show is the best.
i know the guy who programmed all the fountain nozzles and fire and fireworks he told me Walt Disney World didn't want to see the stadium empty during the rain so they decided to make a small show thats gives shows you pieces of Fantasmic but he told me that the beginning was meant to be random so now Walt Disney World has a reason to never see the stadium empty during a storm or when Fantasmic actors aren't ready on time or technical difficulties
Wow, this is cool. I'm hoping to go to college for technical theater and get into this type of thing, so when I read that you choreographed the fountains, I wanted to ask you if you had any advice for someone trying to get into show design at Disney. I'm hoping to go to Rollins College, which is ten minutes from WDW, so I can start networking ASAP. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks! :$
I love how Disney has always a cool backup plan, You must be a magician by the way this awesomly turned out, lol. btw the beginning of this short show looks like Disney's California Adventure World of Color Show, is this where the idea came from?
omg it Raines when I went I spent all day in no so I did not get see it I also got stuck on potc so no wishes for me also but I did see festival of fantasy and the night parade forgot what it is called
moviesperson100001 The purpose of the rain show is actually to detonate all of the pyrotechnics for the safety of the crew (tearing down the set with live pyro is no bueno). The reason the show is "cancelled" is because when it rains, they can't have their cast members out there performing and accidentally slip into a fire pit or firework canon.
+Tony parra This happened to me on my first visit last year. Absolute downpour. We even bought ponchos and waited in the rain :( I have seen the real deal many times now as a cast member but I will never forget this experience.
theTAILlor Those of us that made this alternate show had nothing to do with merchandising. We also didn't get bonuses or commissions. Since we had to fire off the pyro anyway, we were just trying to give the guests that had already waited for an hour or so something to see before they leave. Cancellations are always last minute so any poncho purchases happened long before this show would start. This was literally a freebie.

This show is shown because they cannot remove any Pyro from their launches because it’s considered impossible and dangerous
"some alternative imagination ,huh (Mickey laugh)"
lol

Do you know a video with that announcement, or at least know where I can find it?
Its so cute!!!! Well, at least they tried…. Its like fantastic in miniature…Its so tiny!!!! :) Now I really am hoping for rain…. so i can see this….
Best four minutes of my life!
Weather like this is what I was looking at for you and you were going to put me some cool things

I saw that secret backup show once! Holy shit! 😆
I believe the rain has stopped the show of fantasmic as planned

Well now that was interesting.
Best video ever!
I find the announcer funny.
This is actually better than the usual show...
@cesarjimenezanimator I'm sorry, I don't know who the voices are. The soundtrack was given to us already complete by another department.
wow what a wonderful alternate backup plan. lol
Who came here from Doggan’s review of Fantasmic that mentioned this?
I dont ever want to see this show in real life I mean its good but that means I will be missing the best show disney has ever created but world of color beats on music but this show is the best.

Thats very cool
Which actually probably rains more then it sunshines.
Thank you so much for the great video. I'll try and see this some time!! Do they still do it or something similar.
@KingNice92 Wow, thanks! :-)

Do you happen to know if the "Little April Showers" Segment is a re-recording? or a remaster of the original?
Is that Mr. Moseby at the beginning? It sounds like him.
They do this show because it's too dangerous to send cast members out to unload the pyrotechnics. They NEED to be fired off.
@chillin1147 and Disney World is in the Sunshine State Florida
Quintin O sunshine state that rains almost everyday
Yeah yeah yeah
I was there
I can hear both men in the background talking
They can't give anything longer than this? Quite an accomplishment Disney.

I hope it doesn't rain during my visit, which is the perfect season to go when it's not raining.
+Tony parra This happened to me on my first visit last year. Absolute downpour. We even bought ponchos and waited in the rain :( I have seen the real deal many times now as a cast member but I will never forget this experience.
I know recently they refurbished this show will this still be preformed during weather related cancellations?
Is this the case in Disneyland?
As far as I know, this was only done in Orlando, where the weather is less cooperative.
Fla has stadium seating, but its not covered.....trust me i know from experiance :P
@TheForceFollower94 Well, he sounds more like Mr. Mosbey to me.
whats the first song?
@mason240609 That doesn't even sound CLOSE to Sebastian. His voice is lower pitched. And he has an accent.
@TheForceFollower94 Lord Faquad?
LMAOOOOOO! This is so Disney ...
+Jason Yo I was WTH for the first period! lmao
Due to INCLEMENT WEATHER
HELL NO. Nothing is EVER EVER better then fantasmic.
Aka - we still want your money so stay and watch while we get more $10 ponchos and $30 umbrellas
