Hi Mark, I like your videos very much and the calm way you are telling your stories. The R89 was my first DE shaver and I am still using it, besides Merkur C34 and a Fatip piccolo. Greetings from Frankfurt, Germany
Thank you very much, Holger. Germany has such a great tradition in shaving. I think it's great that three historic brands, Mühle, Merkur and Solingen are still going strong today. So many amazing straight razors are made in Germany, as you know. I would love a Puma; a #77 Cape Kennedy and a Dubl Duck but first I had better learn how to keep mine sharp! Thanks for letting me know where you are. Auf Wiedersehen. 😃👍
Hi Paul. Thanks very much for letting me know. I've just been reading about West Point on Wikipedia. It's absolutely fascinating and of course it's very well known for it's military academy. I love a bit of history, it's fantastic. Cheers.
Hi Mark. I've been watching for awhile, but just subscribed today. I enjoyed the R89 video and always appreciate your manner. Best to you, Ron Ireland - Memphis, Tennessee - USA
Hey Ron, thank you for watching and for subscribing. It's nice to know I'm appreciated. I must say, you have a great surname; named after a country. I like that. Have a great day. Very best wishes to you and yours 😃👍
David Tuwiner Hi David. Now, you've got an interesting job; that would appeal to me. I've heard of Brunswick, Maryland but I'm going to search for some more information. We have Maryland cookies over here 😃👍 thank you for getting in touch. This is great.
Hi Mark, I had a Muhle R89 about five years ago, but had a problem, after a few years, the razor won't screw down anymore, so I couldn't use it.. I bought one again, because I loved it, hope I will not have this problem again. Thank you! Greetings from Romania 🇷🇴
Hello Romania 😃👍 I've not heard of that happening before, Christian. I hope it won't happen again but If it does, it might be worth writing to Mühle in Germany. I have found their customer service to be excellent. It great you found a razor that really suits you. All the best.
Hi Mark- Very nice shave! The Muhle R89 looks like a nice razor! The Gillette Nacet is also one of my favorites, as well. I also enjoy using the synthetic knots- great lathering and an easy clean-up at the end of the shave. I live in Brooklyn, New York! Enjoy the weekend, take good care, and all the best.
Mike H Hi Mike - in Brooklyn! 😃 The world is such a small place on RUclips. Ben is in Brooklyn too. Fabulous. It's a very comfortable razor and it matched very well with the Nacet. I'm really glad I got to try the Nacet blades; they are nice. I agree, the synthetics are so easy to clean up. Thanks for watching buddy. All the very best to you. Cheers.
Sunny Brisbane, Queensland, Australia calling. Thanks so much for the review mate gonna buy one of these tomorrow sick to death of cartridge razors goodonya taking the time to make these videos Cheers
Hey Wookie Tanto. Do you practice a Japanese martial art, by any chance? I think you'll love your new razor. They are very popular and have been a best seller since they were first manufactured in 1989. You might like to try a pack of sample blades, eBay are good for this, then you can choose a good selection of different blades to see which ones you like best. You might like the Sunday sit down, this week. I'll be talking about transitioning from a cartridge to a safety razor. All the best mate 😃👍
Hi Chris- Yes, I have a Maggard 24mm knot and a Whipped Dog 22mm knot that I use most often. Mark was mentioning last week about liking the smaller brushes and I tend to agree. I have a bit more control with the smaller knots and I use them in shaving bowls that correspond to their size for ease of use. I just purchased as Simpson synthetic knot in a Chubby 2 configuration and I’m looking forward to giving that a try soon. Well, take care and best regards. Enjoy the weekend.

The Suffolk Shaver It worked really well. I've just had a shave with the R89 and managed to miss a few bits 😮. What the heck! 🙂 I'm pretty impressed with those blades, I must say. Thanks for saying hello 👍
I am in the "Border Country" of North Carolina and Virginia but officially on the NC side(but I am likely to be in one state or the other on any given day) and I am not too far from Norlina NC.
L.A. Fantastic. Hello Stephen, thank you for getting in touch. I like those Super Platinums, I'll try one in the Mühle. I hope you have a great weekend.
Thank you for yet another superlative video Mark! So glad you enjoyed the Nacet blades. I too find the Nacet to be very sharp, smooth and comfortable. And I get at least five great shaves compared to only two from the Voskhod. Interesting about the Muhle r89 though ....would you say it gives exactly the same shave as the EJ 89? Thank you for your kind attention and please have a safe and happy weekend. CHEERS!
Thank you Will. What a great razor blade. You only get two shaves from a Voskhod! 😯 You must have bristles of steel 😉 I don't know if it gives exactly the same shave; Billy, from Blind Man Shaves is lending me his EJ DE 89, so I will be able to compare them. I might do a side by side comparison. Take care. Cheers 😃👍
Hello in Finland 😃 I will look up your town on the Internet. I live in Torquay in a county called Devon, on the South West coast of the U.K. Mühle are a very good name, the R89 shaves a little differently with acrylic handle, which is slightly heavier. It's a great razor. Take care 😃👍

I had a Muhle 89 but something went wrong with the head plate and I, foolishly, threw the handle away as well. I've been considering a Jagger. They have two gold plated models but I am not sure the shave will be aggressive enough. Having seen your video I think perhaps it would be fine with a sharp blade. The Jagger razors are cheaper but they only seem to offer the one head. I'm sure the Chinese will have copies. Already an English company called Sharpy are selling razors on eBay that are much cheaper and as good as Parkers and with a head similar to the 89. Qshave also make a razor in a traditional style available in two finishes. Chris Seeker Chris, I've borrowed a Jagger DE89 for next weeks shave, as I wanted to have a comparison between the two. The handle, on the one I borrowed is smaller and very light. Mark, I've had three Sharpy razors. One I gave as a present. Of the two I still have, one has a short handle and the other a heavier one I use with the Muhle r41 head. The heads seem to vary. One is the Merkur 34 head and the other a 89. They seem to me to be as good as Merkur in finish. Perfectly fine razors that are quite mild but can give a BBS. Maybe you could be the first to review, for the UK market. Here's a link to what seems to be a Chinese copy of the 89 for £13: s.aliexpress.com/EBVBV3Ez?fromSns.. It's working out okay now. I've progressed to 2500 grit wet and dry and the acrylic is just starting to become clear, rather than opaque. I'm going to paint the top of the acrylic, underneath the knot to add a little colour. I might even throw some glitter in the paint!

It's working out okay now. I've progressed to 2500 grit wet and dry and the acrylic is just starting to become clear, rather than opaque. I'm going to paint the top of the acrylic, underneath the knot to add a little colour. I might even throw some glitter in the paint!
