i like the comment that used to be here that said how valve stated that a real world personality core would be impossible; then it stated that you actually did it; then it said YOU HAVE DONE THE IMPOSSIBLE!
Hi! I am currently starting the undertaking of building a lifesize version of Wheatley as a puppet. Not an electronic version (thought the eyes will glow) and stumbled across your video. Your reference movements of the inside system alone just answered a few thoughts in my head on the build for this so thank you so much! And amazing work :)
its nice to know that theres people out there who show how to make somthing really awesome and dont just keep it a secret. thank you your one of a kind
Thanks for the how it was made video! Shows just how awesomely detailed and meticulous your work is. I definitely think it'd be a good idea for people interested to start pestering Valve to contact you concerning mass producing these. I doubt they could come up with a better mechanical design if they tried.
Thanks for the video! You've got a great talent there; most my replicas are made of embarrassingly cheap materials due to what's available here... But what you've made has simply blown me away!
THANK YOU SO FRACKING MUCH! I'm not actually working on cores, But a 1:1 GLaDOS head thingy [Portal 2 design], And the eye mechanism has been killing Me, This explained everything I've been stuck at for a few months; So again, Thanks!
While watching you build the Personality Spheres in the Computer Program, it seems like you are actually making a 3D Model of a Personality Sphere for Aperture Science.
Just so everyone knows, your own personality spheres don't need to be this complex or fully functional. What the OP has posted is the work of brilliance. You, the average viewer could easily slap something that looks good from the outside together with some quick work. Ping Pong balls, superglue, and PVC tube. That's all I'm saying.
@Destined000 I design the parts in SolidWorks a 3D modeling program similar to Google sketch-up. Then the parts were printed with a 3D printer by Object called the Eden 350. This is typical of prototype engineering development for consumer products. See Description for Links
so many of my friends say that people who wear watches on there right wrist are gay......i showed them this....they are now all wearing watches on their right wrists.....bro i salute you for doing what you do. Lets hope valve does take after what you have done and mass produces these.
I do get rant. I mean, I understand people asking questions and wanting more info but a lot of times the people your helping lose patience in doing it themselves and end up asking you to do it for them, at least, that's what happens in my experience. But in any case, AWESOME job~! I wanna make a papercraft version, but man, do I wish I had access to a 3d printer.
@GwanThwei it helped alot, if you had the pieces that beginning is very good for how to put things together, and this is much better then starting from scratch
dude i love the video.sucks you don't sell them because i try to make a few things myself and never seem to be able to finish it.i know what you are also saying about a lot of kids being handed what they want.i had to grow up where i had to work for what i have.but keep up the great work.hopfully someday i can make one of these damn things.
Would pay for this and like i've seen in the comments, actualy size ones w/audio and motorised parts or companion cubes etc, I do hope someone at valve or a licensed production company pick this stuff up, or at least another designer like you who would be willing to sell them
Dont ask for thumbs up if you want to email valve about mass production, actually go out and email them! Likes on youtube only get your idea noticed, valve isnt going to be surfing youtube ya know.
Major props on the awesome work o.o Sadly, cannot justify busting out that kind of money for a 3D printer on one project. May have to use a paper equivalent, but the basic structure design itself is helpful
How cool would it be to have a talking (motion triggered?) turret in the hallway? :D If I can make a personalitysphere (might try as one of my future projects *is very unexperienced beyond woodwork*) I'm fefinitely going to try that. Just thought you might have been thinking the same! :D
Sigh, I'd really love to do this kind of stuff. While I've tried my hand at some 3D moddeling before, never in that level of detail, and only really with sketchup, so I don't think that counts so much. That, and I dont have a 3D printer, and methinks they aren't going to be cheap to buy, especially just for the occasional random model. You've made me really want one though. ;-; Awesome work!
@ammnra I've done some research based on the info you gave. Any tips on where to obtain an Eden 350? It's a bit hard to find on the net, but it does look like a nifty rapid prototyping machine. One of the sexier ones that I've come across, atleast. As for modeling, I can do that in my sleep. Would love to come up with stuff like this on my own; the rapid prototyper is the only thing I'm missing.
Actually, Valve didn't say anything about the CORE design being impossible, but they did say the aperture on Wheatly's eye/lens being impossible. Although what Ammnra did was pretty freaking awesome.
This is very interesting my only question is where is the best place to 3d print is it a site or are there places that do it locally? I know 3d printers are quite expensive but I would love to get started on projectts such as this but
I shall be trying my best to do this with my dad my friend is a huge fan of portal and I want to try and make him one, try, at least (aswell as make a few for myself)
@ikkedus57 Since I don't have the permission of Valve and these are unmistakably based on their design/characters, I wouldn't feel comfortable selling any decent number of these. It’s not my IP or my significantly original design so I don't have the right to produce even limited quantities of these.
I wish I had a 3D printer.
Me too
I WANT THESE CORES!!!
ME TO😭😭😭😭
epick GAMES me three XD lel
Andro King™ me 4!!!!
me 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999!
ME TOOO
i like the comment that used to be here that said how valve stated that a real world personality core would be impossible; then it stated that you actually did it; then it said YOU HAVE DONE THE IMPOSSIBLE!
This is a great "Do It Yourself" tutorial. If I ever get good at 3D modeling I will definitely try this!
I want to learn to make one of these. I also want a 3D printer. So. Fucking. Terribly.
You and me both.
DiamondSpringTrap Diamonds These aren't made out of legos. I know what legos are...

Thumbs up if you want these to go into production.
2:36 - The Edgy Core
Jokes away, You did an awesome job dude! keep up the good work!
its nice to know that theres people out there who show how to make somthing really awesome and dont just keep it a secret. thank you your one of a kind
This guy is genius
They are adorable!
i apparently sent this video to valve when i was 11, great work though man!
This is probably the best tutorial video ever.
I WANT THOSE!!!!!!!1
ME TOO I WANT ALL OF THEM
Harry101UK must luv this lol
Harry101UK He is one of the thumbs up
ok well I guess it.
I love this video. Thanks for posting. In the short 2:47 minute video I got all I need to make one. Thanks again.

please re-think the not selling thing, these are AWESOME!
i'dd LOVE to have a tiny Wheatley and Space core!
THANK YOU SO FRACKING MUCH! I'm not actually working on cores, But a 1:1 GLaDOS head thingy [Portal 2 design], And the eye mechanism has been killing Me, This explained everything I've been stuck at for a few months; So again, Thanks!

wait, these things were made as a hobby/ for fun and not as a job? cool! respect for being so devoted to such small detail work!
I like the cores and the defective turrets
He's wearing his watch on his right hand!!!!! Such a PRO
A very cool lady made a full scale working Wheatley.
The eye lids work great with full movement.
Just so everyone knows, your own personality spheres don't need to be this complex or fully functional. What the OP has posted is the work of brilliance. want this!!
Thanks for making this :D
i want the cores
Sadly he could not get the eye lids to move but this is truly a incredible feat.
By far, yours looks the most interesting
I would buy this in a heartbeat!
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.
I'd definetly buy this!
I like the things you do, awesome!
You can get the cores in the turret blind box and the companion cube and the birds nest with potatos
Cybertech Samurai but they are just static objects not action figures
Yes, correct. But they have limited movability

Your videos are way amazing
so many of my friends say that people who wear watches on there right wrist are gay......i showed them this....they are now all wearing watches on their right wrists.....bro i salute you for doing what you do. Lets hope valve does take after what you have done and mass produces these.
this is the professional level of engineering, the hardest part is the computer programming, it must have taken weeks!!
I do get rant. I mean, I understand people asking questions and wanting more info but a lot of times the people your helping lose patience in doing it themselves and end up asking you to do it for them, at least, that's what happens in my experience.

I really like the cores! =)

maybe you can't sell them but you can give them away for free :) damm i want one so badly
Why hasn't Vavle or Ubiworkshop picked you up yet? You're so talented. Everyone would buy a personality sphere or a hidden blade.
I WANT ONE OF THESE SO BADLY!!
I'm going to use this to build a life-size Wheatley.
Im 13. Im gonna make full size portal core. Thanks for that video! Now i know how to make inside of the core
Thanks for the video! It really helps!!
epic video
Hey man I saw pictures of your personality cores on google and was like "who IS this guy!?" And now I FINALLY FOUND YOU :D
i want wheatley
William G. Ames me too :>
Me too....
Would pay for this and like i've seen in the comments, actualy size ones w/audio and motorised parts or companion cubes etc,
I do hope someone at valve or a licensed production company pick this stuff up, or at least another designer like you who would be willing to sell them
awesome
i am a prop maker as well but i do full scale and i totally agree with you man 100%
You should mass produce these little guys and sell them... You would make so much money... I WANT THESE LITTLE GUYS!!
Dont ask for thumbs up if you want to email valve about mass production, actually go out and email them! Likes on youtube only get your idea noticed, valve isnt going to be surfing youtube ya know.
Aperture Science should be a real company!
I would think about that.
they're so cute!!!! -goes to buy the stuff to make Wheatley-
Major props on the awesome work o.o Sadly, cannot justify busting out that kind of money for a 3D printer on one project. May have to use a paper equivalent, but the basic structure design itself is helpful
You are a genius. I'm not even kidding and I'm not overreacting.

try making a wheatly and give it a speaker. and it would move. THAT would be cool.
i will give you ANYTHING for Rick!
Actually, Valve didn't say anything about the CORE design being impossible, but they did say the aperture on Wheatly's eye/lens being impossible. Although what Ammnra did was pretty freaking awesome.
this....is......AWESOME
pity you aint selling these. they are really good, i'd buy em for sure
I WANT SPACE CORE AND WHEATLY SO MUCH
I one Wheatley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thumbs up and thank you... im going to make a soft-ball sized wheatley! ...life-size is alittle much
this isn't for a portal toy, this is really engineering a space cockpit
i want the space core!!!
This is very interesting my only question is where is the best place to 3d print is it a site or are there places that do it locally? I know 3d printers are quite expensive but I would love to get started on projectts such as this but
well i've seen some portal stuff on amazon and ebay so they got stuff on there some expensive like the portal gun goes somewhere between $400 to $500
now i know wat im doin this summer vacation
I shall be trying my best to do this with my dad
my friend is a huge fan of portal and I want to try and make him one, try, at least
(aswell as make a few for myself)
what do we have to get to craft em? I would have wheatley by now if I knew what to use.
Subed. Keep up the work!
Oh my god i love them i tottaly want one!!!!
One girl made a fully functional Wheatley puppet that was life size
I loved using this to make one. I'm trying to come up with one with working eyelids, but they keep getting stuck. Perseverance, I guess.
this is incredible o.o
I *REALLY* wish Shapeways would make some of this stuff, rather then forcing us to.
awesome. I want one.
Valve engineer: Sorry sir, these are impossible to make!
Valve CEO: AMMNRA MADE THIS IN A CAVE WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!
Heh, this video was great. It was like a tutorial on how to get people to stop bothering you :)
what prograhm do you use for the design? i can get my hands on two that seem the be able to do it via autocad and Inventor.
OMG I want one! If only I had the patience to build something with so many details. *sigh*
Is it possible to make a body to connect a sphere to like Atlas?
oh the female cube is so cuuuuuuteee :D
SOMEBODY SAID IT THANK YOU
Haha, these little things are so cute. :3
@ikkedus57

we all miss him
@ammnra one question if i pay the amount for the parts could you build one for me sry about all the comments
I WANT ALL OF THEM
could you make a 1:1 scale that would be amazing or a companion cube thats 1:1 scale with lights and stuff
