I remember back in the arcade of 2000. People usually set K' as their last fighter. When his Benimaru and Maximus were down, K' came out EXACTLY at that chorus - indirectly telling "LETS FUCK SHIT UP!!" - it's so perfect timing that everyone, both the players and the crowd watching were thrilled
What was so great about these soundtracks, is that SNK did not HAVE to do this at all. They could have just added in the OST's to the home versions and called it a day, but instead they just went balls out on the soundtrack to take advantage of the CD technology of the time. It showed that they really cared about this franchise.
Which is sad if you look at the current state of KOF music now. I used to think that as long as Sha-V(main composer from 96-2000), its gonna be OK, because I despised 2001 and 2002's quality. But the thing is, Sha-V didnt make these tracks great on his own. The Neo Geo Music Performance Group that rearranges his midi music for real instruments also played their part in making the ASTs great even until today, over 20 years later. KOFXIV had Sha-V return as composer, and the songs are still OK, but not as great as 96-2000 because of all the synth-electro shit.

KD-SR makes me weep because there are bits and pieces there that show you that old reoccurring elements from K' Team themes have been recognized, but the sound never bring it to its fully potential. Its all too safe, without making much of an impact. I found myself liking a lot of XIV's OST had to offer (sans the lullaby that is Team China), but KD-SR felt like someone spitting in my face. XV carries this problem with remixed songs from other eras, as well. If you are not correct about what you said, I can at least guarantee you that you are AT LEAST on to something. I'm not asking for new KOF songs to be on the same quality as the Performance Group, but I am asking SNK Sound Team to make it sound like they want you to remember those tracks in the same way people do with these. There is no rearrangement being done this time, so make it count.
This is how I knew KOF. KOF 99 was the first I played, K' was the first character I tried, Krizalid was the first boss I defeated, and this was the first song I heard. Since then I never stopped.

Even though everyone keeps talking about the chorus around 1:17, the beginning melody into the "verse" (0:03-to-1:01) is one of my fave parts. I never liked the chorus (1:17) from the original version of this song and the KOF 2002 version, and this arranged version along with KD-0079+ gets it right somehow.
