  • On this day in Southern labor history, October 2, 1929, thousands of striking textile mill workers in Marion, North Carolina were attacked by local law enforcement named the Marion massacre. The attack left six striking workers dead and dozens of others seriously injured.
On the anniversary of the struggle, we remember the brave workers who lost their lives on the picket line. Not a single working class person should have to give their lives to win good, livable jobs. Nevertheless, the fight for workers rights continues to this day.
