It's opt-in until they decide it's not.
. As a result, I'm willing to bet anything they have already baked this new form of telemetry into the windows kernel AKA core
Find a way to remove all recall files, registry entries, services, tasks.
Everyone is threatening to switch to Linux you might wanna find a distro to latch onto that you will like Microsoft isn't looking too hot for the future right now companies are gonna have to run on Linux servers in the following decade I highly recommend doing it now if any company reads my comment and finds it useful.
@TechnoMinded-qp5in hey why are you telling me I might want to find a distro to latch onto? I've been on Linux Mint cinnamon 100% as my only daily driver for now just under 4 years and I've been using it off and on for well over 12
I'm already well ahead of you on that😉
@@shadowopsairman1583 it don't make a crap if you remove those files or not the Telemetry engine which is basically this recall technology is involved in is built into the windows kernel the core. And you don't have anything access to that anymore or any less than I do or any other regular end-user. Only Microsoft operating system software developers have access to the editing the windows kernel. Regardless I've already freed myself from when turd about 4 years ago 100% in favor of Linux Mint cinnamon and could not be happier
So with no Recall, Windows just sends your data to the NSA in the background.
I was thinking the same thing. All disabling Recall does is disable the pictures. The AI-generated metadata is still going to be there.
We can't trust Microsoft with our data. I fail to see how anyone can trust software switches to do what they claim.
It does not matter if it's recall or any other Telemetry technique or software tool . Microsoft will send data to the NSA as they wish anytime they wish
Only OS has its own built-in keylogger!
keep the pressure on 🙂 In my opinion this function should never ever be included in an OS. (no matter whether it is opt-in or opt-out)
It should be a downloadable optional app, not an integrated part of the OS for sure. The only reason to do that is so that you can screw with it later without people noticing/caring, it's part of why noone trusts that they won't start collecting the data later on.
@@Person01234 yes!
All it takes is malware enabling the AI features... If Microsoft doesn't enable them later down the line.
And by malware is probably an update from Microsoft to forcibly enable them and not take responsibility of their actions. That's why I tweaked the updates of windows and switched my laptop to Linux
I had a straw that broke the camels back moment this past weekend. I rebooted my computer and my wireless keyboard wasn’t working. I thought there was probably a windows update that did something weird so I reseated the dongle, made sure my computer worked and rebooted the computer. Same thing happened. I have nobara installed on an extra Ssd in my computer so I booted into that and updated it. I tried to access my OneDrive folder. No dice. So I logged back into windows downloaded everything I have in my OneDrive folder and moved it to local storage now I can access it no problem on nobara. I’ll be fully switching and wiping my windows partitions when I get back from vacation next week.
Linux not having Ai bullshit and spyware is not a " missing features " its a bless not a curse like in windows by microshit
Microsoft can't even get basic filesystem search right, how the heck are they going to go about and search data based on screenshots taken every five seconds?! And for what? "oh I really wished what I right clicked at 3am 6 months ago" 🤔
I'll play the devil's advocate: there is ONE minor use case that it would be beneficial: troubleshooting errors.
DA end users won't know what they did/clicked to get this error to occur. The spyware would help diagnose what steps were taken to produce the error (if the user was slow enough to screenshot each step).
But it's seriously not worth the avalanche of downsides associated with it.
@@encycl07pedia- But if it were for troubleshooting errors, and need to see what they click, is pretty much you need to raise the frequency to at minimum 1 ss per seconds.
Meanwhile have the risk of it ss ing private documents that you read, some projects, press "show password", some "hobbies" you have, that other's have no business with.
Even with the screenshot is stored in your own pc, the AI will analyze it, tag your computer with some category. Then some person in microsoft think that this x category is offensive and lock access to all computer tagged with this.
It will probably be OPT-IN but done in a way where most people will say yes. Like how Cortana was in the early days of Windows 10. During the install process it would ask if you wanted to let Cortana be your assistant, and the YES button was nice and big and highlighted, and the "not interested" button was tiny and looked more like a hyper link. Most people will just click through without actually reading the stuff. I imagine this is how they will do it.
Linux take over 2024!!!!!!
I'm learning the Linux system and will be switching this coming weekend. " It should be fun and refreshing!"
Remember you can start off 'dual booting'. So you don't lose your windows right off, just in case while getting use to it. Doing this, yes they are completely seperate you can choose on boot which to go into. It's a nice way to get used to it and when you start feeling uncomforatable jump to windows. But honestly most distro have a windows feel now, just a suggestion. It's how I did it personally. I ended up now every computer in my studio and house is linux, but I did ease my way in.
EDIT: Just realized, that can come off sounding little rude, It's not meant that way, I just don't know if you know of that option.
I love Windows 11. Windows 11 is cool
Take it slow and have fun. The community is here if you need assistance. 👍
I've been dual booting w*ndows 11 and L Mint since last Saturday, haven't needed to run the Windows even once so far. Probably will uninstall and Switch To Linux™ full time when I leave college.
@@johntoemilytransitionvlog9418 How much money does the MS marketing team pay you? Really interested
My first glance on Linux didn't quite convince me. It was way back, and the OS was Ubuntu 6. So I decided to wait a bit and take another look a bit later, it became 8 years later. I was rather busy with my work most of the time in between, so no surprises there. The next time I tried Minux Mint (18 at the time), thanks to Tom's recommendation on this channel. That one I liked, and I still like so much that while I've tested other distros none of them have convinced me to hop.
I'm a long-time linux user (since 2002), mostly using Linux in all those years. I have NEVER been successful using Rufus to "burn" a Linux iso onto a usb stick. The best one I've used is Balena Etcher. Easy peasy. It - just - works.
I love WIndows 11. Windows 11 is cool. Linux Sucks
@@johntoemilytransitionvlog9418 I'm glad you enjoy it. What I love about our world is our ability to choose what we want for ourselves, just as you have chosen to embrace your perceived femininity. We all are able to choose what operating system we use on our computers. I choose to not use Microsoft. I choose to use Linux and Mac OS. Freedom is amazing.

Thank you, Microsoft, for sponsoring this Switched To Linux video. Nice advertisement you made me watch.
Yea, I used to be on call to my mother to fix her frequent computer problems. Guess what? She was running Windows! Later I installed Linux Mint for her and now the only help she needs with her computer is to help to check any suspicious e-mails she gets, on occasion. Mint doesn't need much maintenance, only an update once in a while and (for her use case) no troubleshooting at all!
Here is a preview of how the new change will work ...
Recall is our latest awesome feature. Click Next to get started
(Or Remind me again later)
I fully removed winblows from my main PC last night. My laptop is next. unfortunately, for now, I have computers at my business that need winblows. That WILL be changing soon.

I don't believe them, how much do you want to bet that it will still be running somewhere in the background?
As long as that Recall feature is built-in on the level of source code presence, you can not trust them that it is actually off when it is disabled.
Microsoft are showing the world just how mentally impaired they are with some of their insidious ideas.
Its all intentional from the us communist fed gov.
How the opt-in will work:
The Windows Installer:
Do you want your PC to be super cool and smart? Click "Yes" to make your PC super good!
In very small text: (Or click Continue to continue without opting-in to Windows Recall)
The classic dark pattern of having the opt-in look like part of the required path of progression and putting the opt out with the correct "terminology" but in the "wrong spot" so the average user won't notice.
Oh... By the way I found Copilot installed on one of my windows 10 pro, I was shocked they probably installed it within a security update.
They slipped it in! 😂😂
I don't even remember how my windows 10 is now turned into windows 11, and it says I installed it 3 month ago. I just realized it turned into windows 11 2 days ago. just because when I choose boot OS option while setting up linux, it says windows 11. And nowhere in your daily usage you will see windows "11" anywhere. except if you really open system information or something.
I think they sneak in, and gaslight you into "maybe you did upgrade 3 month ago"
I'm still in a weird transitionary period mainly because my only Linux device is my Steamdeck and I don't wanna mess it up somehow so I still do some stuff on my Windows 10
It's not a victory really, more of an appeasement to keep the peasants quiet. Expect it to be sneakily switched back on when everybody has given up the fight to care about it..
The fact that he thinks that Recall being an Opt-In feature now shows you where he stands.
The fact that Microsoft was forced to do the Opt-In and not pull the feature out and shelved it for indefinitely isn't a a victory.
It's only a victory when Microsoft put it on a shelve and never release it.
This is truth.
I switched from Elementary OS and Open Core for my work. No Windows and No Chromebooks.
I left Windows in early May, been running CachyOS ever since, and I can say it is super stable, runs so much better than Windows. The year of the Linux desktop is here, and I like it.
Windows is Cool. Linux Sucks.
i put a registry that i won't be moving from 22h2 win10 update...
but i'll be watching if i suddenly got a 23h1/2 update all of a sudden.
Good luck with that though. I disabled W7 updates day 1 and still have this OS alongside PopOS which is my daily driver for several years now.
i recently tried to get a win10 sec update and it failed for no reason. so because of msoft incompetence its already oct for me. and do these sec updates matter if your running norton and are behind a hware firewall ?
>90% of folks will keep using their “un-updatable” machines until their browser stops loading websites
At which point they will either go to Best Buy, or they will just use their phone and iPad/fire tablet exclusively for the rest of their lives
Maybe their work provided computer during tax season
Actually, recently I switched to "Linux Mint" and I can tell it's way way better than windows, specially Windows 11.
Recall should have "opt uninstall" as a choise too.
Recall is the last nail in the coffin from MS
lol true
I suspect Microsoft is going to be forced to extend Windows 10 another 10 years maybe.
How great is it ti be a Linux user and not to have to worry about this shite. 🙂
I officailly made the switch to Linux today from Windows 11. I chose Ubuntu and it was fairly easy to install and set up everything I wanted on my laptop. I even opened up the terminal and easily installed the packages to log in and authenticate sudo with my laptop's fingerprint reader.
Microsoft appears to be in a mess. How much longer can Microsoft continue to ignore what computer users want. I stopped buying Windows at version 7. As far as I am concerned, windows has been nothing more than spyware from that version on. It is impossible to trust Microsoft, as they change terms and conditions after purchase.
I wish the OS writers would design the software so that the hardware can implement a user controlled hardware interlocks that protect it from unauthorised changes. The problem is that for years the software has been written as self modifying code.
Same here, I used Windows 7 for quite some years. When they wanted so badly to push me to Windows 10, I didn't budge. But then, my Windows 7 failed to update, rebooted, failed to update again, rebooted... Luckily I was dual-booting with Linux Mint 18 at the time, so I had no worries, I just used the OS that worked. My data files I got easily because Linux can read NTFS perfectly. So it happened, and it was the final bye bye to Windows from me.
They are owned by the communist federal gov in the US, follow the money trail
@@OldieBuggerthere are fixes for W7 updates, ms intentionally forced 10 on people, Windows 7 is the last OS they released that enhanced the user experience. Windows phone, 10 and 11 are for idiots
@@shadowopsairman1583 I remember when W10 was forced on heaps of people thru these viscous updates. Talking about how I defeated it by disabling these from day 1 install of W7 on this platform garnered many comments from these W10 promoting people decrying me and gaslighting me over and over again. I guess a lot of MS money bought a lot of comment traffic as part of the marketing push for W10.
Optin or optout, their software is THERE!!
Nothing is really disabled in Windows.
Yep, they have their brains totally fried!
Not switched yet, but I dabbled in Linux many times, even tested Lindows at the time. 😂😂
Testing Fedora after retesting Ubuntu, which in my view will die!
Next will probably be Linux Mint! 😮😮🎉🎉🎉
Co-pilot and Recall are spyware. I use Brave browser and if I want to do some things like access the password manager or the card details I have to input the password to open the password to a particular site or use my debit card on a website.
Windows lost me when they started shoving ads into the os. Ill make it work just fine without them
Don't forget if you want tell people about Ventoy for a great experience to test drive many different distros. The biggest problem is Linux adoption is only at 4% until it starts really putting a dent in the windows adoption rate Linux is always going to be a last option. It's unfortunate because it is pretty good and thanks to steam deck linux gaming is getting very popular. Gamers are ones that will get people to switch over, as more game companies allow for gaming on alternative OS. Hoping someday linux will get a much higher adoption rate!
Microsofts new slogan "Trust me bro"
Linux mint has been good to me. The little annoyances that I have are due to the hardware vendors not Linux itself. My pc case has rgb that Msi includes a windows app to turn off. that app is not in Linux. There are GitHub tools that claim to do it but so far none of them have worked successfully. I ended up just unplugging the header but would still be nice if I could do that in Linux as intuitively as in Windows. Again this isn’t Linux’s fault but hoping the uptick in Linux users will get hardware vendors attention. I had this hardware before switching so next time I’ll know more of what to look for on my next build.
I stopped using ANYTHING Microsoft over 20 years ago. So glad I did. I use Debian and different versions of BSD (BTW) 😊
Unfortunately there are a few, but important, CAD packages that will only run on windows, and Microsoft is doing its best to ensure that these will not run under Wine. CAD Packages that run in Wine emulating win 10 will stop working when they "upgrade" to win 11 support.
I can also recomment using Zorin OS, a very modern Windows like Linux Distribution :) I bought the Pro version just to support the Devs
I am still running my FX-8350, which is perfectly fine for all I do.
I tried a couple of times to run Mint, but I could not get proper fan control going.
The FX runs hot AF under load, so it really requires controlling the fans depending on CPU core temp. But since the 4 fans on the liquid cooler are also the case main intake, they also need to ramp up if the Mainboard and/or GPU get hot.
Speedfan on windows makes this relatively easy to set up, but Linux won't even detect the fan control chip on my motherboard.
Now I got gifted an am4 Board with ryzen CPU, and once I get a new PC built around that, I will go full Linux.
If this keep ON happen with MS Win then the dream project of Sir Bill Gates (I ❤ this guy for Win 7) will be seen in trash in coming future. Now my home PC has Linux Mint for my good peace of mind.
Currently Mr. Chris Titus is working on Linux Tool Box like his WinUtil for tweaking and debloating windows.
there are tons of features missing on linux, they are called "thirdy party applications"
some of then have alternatives for linux, but many dont, especially when it comes to niche features such as voice synthetizers, or musical instruments synthetizers, we also dont have any good open source video editor (none that is as good as the professional tools) and davinci resolve is a bit of pain to setup on unsuported distros, there are also softwares that the floss alternative isnt as good as the proprietary one that is exclusive to win/mac.
i am just wondering when will they pull a fast one on us like they did the last time when they were upgrading PCs without our permission. (because honestly is not a question of IF, but when and they showed they don't care and will do it anyway). not to mention, i am really really thinking if they gonna mandate/get a mandate from force majeure to do so (government perhaps, using an excuse of national security for example).
They never were punished for this action to millions of people were they? Kinda like the people who made the towers fall down in NY in 2001.
Totally agree with you, respect. 11:52

Microsoft will slowly introduce new feature after new feature in Windows that use various aspects of Recall, enabling them one by one, until at some point in the future it will be as if this "opt in" wasn't even there and Recall will effectively be on by default. And no one will even notice.
That's how this always works; if they can't go all the way, they'll slowly creep it in until they've got their way. But you should expect that when using an operating system 100% owned and controlled by a single corporation. Just give them a few years to complete their vision after this minor setback to their plans.
This is no victory to Windows users; it's a wake-up call. One that, like every other, will in reality will do nothing, as most everyone using Windows will bitch and moan and continue to use Windows.
It ain't opt in unless it can be uninstalled, or better still, not installed at all and offered as a download. That said, I can't move from Windows because there are none of the programs I use available on Linux, so MacOS would be my only option and that isn't an option as far as I'm concerned. Not a fan of the way they do things either. Debloating Windows is still the only viable one for me.
i want to get on linux so badly, sadly i can't thanks to friggin' Avermedia not workin' on Linux espcially alot of their older capture cards and last time i've check, Vegas Pro doesn't work on Linux either
An OS is designed to run the user's desired programs within it and nothing else with very low resource hogging . So Microsoft need to admit this is not an OS anymore and leave the OS market to the experts ..Say a linux distro...
I have swapped myself, was and am on Fedora. Think I'm going to Mint though for the backup ease of system not users.
Stability, I'm sorry brother it is 'not' as stable as windows. You forget how many (all) computers it supports, and linux don't.
For me it was just plug and play will never lie. I do have all new stuff not sure if that matters like 2i2 interface, etc.. common new stuff and fedora and mint was just hook up. Awesome for me.
Now, I have had to reboot more with linux than ever with windows. Linux main users break windows, I'm sorry it's the truth. Just like (me) ex_Main windows user is the one likely breaking Linux. If you are talking running on a server, I will say Linux is honestly the only option, I think in my entire life on a server I have only had like 2 issues, ever that is amazing. Mostly becuase they wasn't even maintained. I had too and I didn't just keep them updated. (semi and fully dedi is what I'm referring to).
I do suggest if anyone is curious "Please" give any linux you flavor or all flavors a try. He is right, little exaggorated but still correct. It likely will do anything you want. It's running my recording studio computers now. We do our video work on there.
PSA: Just FYI to New. If you use Davinci Resolve, I'd suggest "Not" messing with Fedora, something broke because fedora moved to fast. So it don't work without doing things you might not feel comfortable doing.
Mint, loaded perfect. Mint does not move as fast so unlikely to ever have the issue.
Id switch to linux to be honest but I know I cant play all my games… sucks to be a gamer these days.
Microsoft should just open source the Windows 10 code. Then the developer community could strip all of the bloat and spyware out of it.
How is it a "victory" when all they've done is postponed it...
Microsoft when they are finally on the defense stand in a federal court of law involving the Supreme Court..... when they are asked if they've ever violated the Fourth Amendment rights of their end users regardless of the version of Windows regardless of the Patriot Act...
" we do not recall your honor"
Anyone with even half a brain listening....facepalms

It's more of a "let turn this into a windows love channel" tbh.
There is an ongoing attack industries wide on media like comics, movies, TV and games, to destroy the quality of entertainment. Is this why Windows is also going downhill? Same motivations? Linux seems to be riding high with no degradation in sight.
I hate W10
Microsoft : Whatcha gonna do about it? install linux? haa! haa!
Me : Well I have 2x4tb ssd in my laptop that's nowhere near full. Why not shrink 200gb and put linux in?
Even if I don't mainly use it right now, it's always good to have a backup system. I can learn how to use it slowly, get used to it, install stuff making sure it works. And don't need to do it urgently.
Surprisingly you don't need to type so many sudoku to install linux now. I can install linuxmint just like how I install windows. (Except for the audio problem, I install linuxmint edge afterwards and it works). Got the office, browser, downloader, media player, etc2 ready right off the bat. Any basic things you will need for an OS works, and don't need 365 subscription. If anything doesn't work, then dual boot the windows OS.
Even if they go on with recall, I'll make sure whatever they screenshot they get will just be videogames. Everything data related will be moved to linux. So yeah they don't have leverage if you have options.
Ubuntu would be my recommendation for linux newbies. Then try distro hop maybe to fedora or try other like trying out debian as main for few months. Skin doesn't matter just to learn terminal or to learn how stuff work.
And i'm telling you that's a bad idea becaude Ubuntu, besides of having a centralized future, It's starting to mimic Windows 😅
Too little, too late. I switched to Linux ASAP after the DLL Hell. (Which is actually a 3 years difference). Also: Bill Gates is perfectly unique in promoting the PL BASIC. Microsoft shouldn't have lit fire on the DLL Hell. Bill Gates shouldn't have promoted BASIC. Now they're creating their own Hell.
More like "it better not recall"
you can say what you will that linux has all features but I can not run reason on it that is why i need windows ... even if it is in a vm but linux is not capable to run reason not in bottles or wine either
Reason? is that a videogame?
