SEAL Jokingly Asked For the Old Veteran's Rank - Until His Reply Made the Entire Mess Hall Freeze
Embed
- Published on Apr 18, 2026
- When a young, arrogant Navy SEAL, at the peak of his physical power, decides to publicly challenge an elderly veteran in a crowded mess hall, he sees only a frail old man who doesn't belong. He dismisses the veteran's quiet dignity and mocks the small, tarnished pin on his jacket as a "cheap trinket." He jokingly asks for the old man's rank, never imagining that the answer could silence an entire military base.
What begins as a casual display of ego becomes a profound lesson in humility, a moment where the modern warrior is confronted by the living history he took for granted. The confrontation escalates until the highest echelons of command arrive, triggering a stunning public reckoning that reminds an entire generation of operators that the man they saw as a relic was, in fact, a legend.

Alot of young people don't seem to realise when they see old frail people, " they where young once ".
And you have no idea who they were or what they did in that youth
" they where young once "
...back when people knew how to spell.
Heck my brother is a retired Green Beret from Vietnam. And my son is a Marine from OIF. Neither one of them would EVER treat an older service member from any branch like that.
I’ve met seals maybe more than most civilians and I will tell you this not one of them would have ever acted like this to an old timer. This is bull.
I have met more than a few and this isn’t how they roll 👎
Exactly.
They would have been more than honored to be his host.

@DudleySchmedlap-s6irumor has it ITS NOT A TRUE STORY 😅
The quietest man in the room. Usually turns out to be the most dangerous.
Y’all need to respect the older saviors of this world people wake up and smell the coffee
No soldier would disrespect an older vet like that!
Agreed!
I completely agree
You Would Be Wrong in that Statement ... Seen it happen I am ex Irish regiment i see a load of newbies disrespect an old guy sat at the bar . he was a former CSM , He is the nails in the coffin . he kicked the shit out of them . then the RMP's turned up with the base CO as soon as the CO Saw him he came to full attention and saluted the Old Boy . Do not mess with a Sargent Major .. u been warned . it Happens
@Rs500ybd That's there! That's not in the US!!! We respect our old warfighters here. I am one and have never been disrespected for it by civilian's or younger military guy's.
@Rs500ybd I think I clicked cancel on my last reply. I said that this is there where you live. Not in America. If a soldier did that here and got reported it's big trouble for him. He brings smoke and heat on the unit for acting like that. It def. don't fly in the U.S. American's have a lot of respect for their warfighters. I am an old warfighter and have never had an issue like this ever and do not expect to!!!
Not saying it doesn't happen but if it does it's very isolated! There are bad apples in every bunch!!!
A Navy SEAL harassing a veteran? Nobody else standing up for the old veteran? I call bullshit. That’s not our military.
This is a work of fiction. It's ok but not especially realistic.
People are people. Seal doesn't make him not a person. Crazy how many special forces end up as just mercs. No loyalty to anything but money and murder. Hell they are training the cartels.
You’re absolutely right. I’m not a Seal, just a Navy vet. I’m an old man now, but as recently as two weeks ago I intervened when someone was bullying someone weaker than them. I hate that shit. I may catch a bullet for jumping in matters like that someday, and I couldn’t care less. I cannot stand standby and watch something like that.
I like these videos, but yeah. There’s no way that men with the discipline to be where they are, would treat any elderly person that way, and to have no one defend the elderly man? Nope
I agree!!
I cry foul. No serving member would ever disrespect a veteran. If he is in that mess hall, he is there for a reason. Offering to be of assistance is what would be expected.

No navy seal would ever disrespect an elderly man, especially a veteran. But other than that a good story

A simple joke turned into a moment of deep respect-one reply from the old veteran and the whole mess hall fell silent. Truly powerful!
My Father was in the US Army for 17 years. WW2, Bulge, Korea, Cuban Missile Crisis. Master sgt & cook. There are bullies in every organization. A military school I attended had a major hazing scandal with physical abuse. My parents raised hell about the abuse & my being a victim. It led to that school’s closing for good.
There are also evil people out there. Yesterday someone in my building left out poisoned water & it killed my sweet cat Kitten Kat. Her Mama Cat is now frightened & confused as she loved her baby. I talked to animal control & they said despite residents coming forward they could do nothing. I refused to settle for that. I raised hell with county officials & the police will be talking to the killer. Mama & Kitten were very gentle. You have to fight the complacents & the do nothings and fight the bullies or they will take over & do what you know is right.
I am 73 & I thank every service member I see for their service.
I don’t know how I’m gonna get mama got back in my apartment where she could be safe.
This is insulting. No SEAL would do this.
Bigly.......these guys do not do stupid
Not if they're a true seal definitely not
They would have honored a brother who laid the foundation of what they are.
Miller would have been court marshalled and imprisoned for his actions and nothing the old man said would change that because everything Miller did reflects directly and poorly on the unit and the entire military.
if anyone wonders why an officer would salute an enlisted man, it is due to the fact that a medal of honor winner rates a salute from any officer, tho technically he should be in uniform wearing the medal/ i had a MOH winner on my crew and it was fun watching an admiral come to attention and salute him during a full dress inspection/
Thank You! Gunnie. Sgt. FR.USMC Heavy Weapons Specialist. To you younger VET's........Thank you for your service! My leg is gone and couple other things. This story brought tears to my eyes, and I rarely cry! I have never given up. I will never forget my brothers.
I have often said to my Son that
“ as you are now, I once was, but as I am now, you will too soon be”.
Makes him think.
Wonderful!
Respect!!!!!!!!
Wow. Another amazing story. Thank you for everything. Just amazing. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
As a 27 year retired USAF Officer who served as J2 for SOF in Iraq, I know this would not have happened. SEALs and all SOF know their heritage and what they owe to those who came before them. No serving military member would treat a veteran that way. They would likely want to sit with the old man and hear his story, no matter what it was. They would thank him for serving.
Should be the truth, however this administration there are those to COCKY FORVTHEIR OWN GOOD.
@shirleyrambo424 Yeah, I understand what you are saying, BUT not within the bounds of the military community.
@stoicleadsanyone who acted like this wouldn't be tolerated. This would send him onto the super sonic train to see the "old man" & probably a court Marshal
But I agree any true seal wouldn't act like this either. They'd honor a predecessor.
Absolutely correct. No military person will ever disrespect a senior.
NOT A TRUE STORY . . . . NOT A TRUE STORY NOT A TRUE STORY . . . . NOT A TRUE STORY NOT A TRUE STORY . . . . NOT A TRUE STORY NOT A TRUE STORY . . . . NOT A TRUE STORY NOT A TRUE STORY . . . . NOT A TRUE STORY NOT A TRUE STORY . . . . NOT A TRUE STORY
Watching this brings tears to my eyes; talent goes hand in hand with virtue. George Stanton is truly a legend! 🕊💎 A truly high-quality and inspiring video! 🎻🌟💯🚀
As a combat marine who worked alongside Seals this would have never happened. All respect to the greatest fighting forces ever the Seals
19:27 could have been 3 minutes without all the poetic language.
Good story thank you
I was going through Checkpoint at PHL. An older man alarmed. TSO asked him if he had any metal. "No. Just my medal." "You'll have to take it off. I looked at as he pulled it out, yep..Medal of Honor. I interjected and said..."NO. He will not remove that Medal, and You will allow him to pass. That Man is a Medal of Honor of Recipient.." TSO had no idea.
Solid
Heroes & quiet warriors deserve our total honor & respect. Thank you for your service.
❤❤❤❤❤
Always respect those who went before you🎖
If this is really today's military, we have lost already.
Thank you sir for serving our country❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
RESPECT!!
He thought it was just small talk...
GOD BLESS AMERICA AND ALL OUR MILITARY PERSONAL 🇺🇸❤️🤍💙🫡🇺🇸
I am a disabled, retired military veteran, and am 69 years old. I love going on military bases when I go on road trips. It is a delight to eat in the dining facilities with fellow soldiers. My wife and I are ALWAYS treated with the most kindness and respect. Other young soldiers offer to help me carry my tray as I must walk with a cane. A powerful warrior will always show kindness, love, respect, and service to the old, weaker ones who used to be young, whole, and strong. May the Lord bless them and our country.
One of my favorite history teachers also said to me:" you have 2 ears and one mouth. Kindly use it in that proportion". I was devastated, but i still live Mr Silverman.
I was in the navy my dad was a navy veteran from World War Two. God bless all the vets.
The veteran would Never have come in the chow hall without the past to give him the honor.
Nevada, USA-Vietnam War Veeran-Thank You!!!
Oh, so nobody called "Attention On Deck"
Any service member no matter what branch or rank would ever show that kind of disrespect! 🙄
A very nice story. We all need that at times like this.👏👏👏
It’s also bullshit.
10:34-16:29 The vibe flips when the doors burst open and a vice admiral salutes George (12:30-13:11) and names him “the Ghost of Luzon,” a Medal of Honor frogman from Operation Nightfall (13:47-14:52) - and then George hits everyone with pure class: “He’s just a boy… Let the boy learn his lesson, but don’t ruin him” (15:51-16:29). I love how the story turns humiliation into heritage and growth instead of revenge. If you were Miller, what would you do first to rebuild trust after that moment - and what lesson should every “elite” unit bake into its culture so this never happens again?
No self respecting navy seal would act like this. They'd be honored to host a brother
This is harassment, false arrest, & battery, maybe even possible assault
Yeah, I'm 68 and disabled with a 33 year old
caregiver
living here
in my home with her 34 year old boyfriend,
and I can
tell you,
these younger people really don't
have any respect for older people. It's a real shame.
To be honest, i quickly lose respect for ALL kinds of people once they show who they really are. Someone does not deserve respect simply for being old, someone deserves respect for not doing things that rightfully strip them of that respect.
Also, someone does not deserve disrespect for being old, or young, or wharever, that has nothing to do with their actions.
Every old man is a ghost.
I got so fed up I went for a shit and went to bed
Has it finished yet ffs
Very rarely will you come across ANY service members who would treat anyone on base like this. For every 5 civilians, 4 are bound to be veterans.
10:34-13:11 the whole room snaps to attention as the captain, Master Chief Thorne, and a vice admiral walk in-and then the admiral delivers that jaw-dropping salute to George: “It is an honor, sir… forgive the lapse” (12:48-13:11). 13:47-15:12 hits even harder when he explains Operation Nightfall and “the Ghost of Luzon,” a Medal of Honor frogman who survived alone and finished the mission. Best part for me: George’s compassion-“He’s just a boy… let the boy learn his lesson, but don’t ruin him” (15:51-16:29). What scene made you pause, and do you think public humility like this creates better leaders than quiet discipline behind closed doors?
He called him ghost before he became the ghost 16:53
Forks & knifes !!
That is not the way we were taught to say it !!
It was, please pass me a knife & fork !!
The other way gets you!!
Please pass me a fuckn knife !!
The man walking in the park was surely NOT in civilian cloths !!
Imm here to tell you it happens more often than not!
13:47-16:29 The whole room flips when the vice admiral salutes “Mr. Stanton” and reveals he’s the “Ghost of Luzon,” the lone survivor of Operation Nightfall who earned the Medal of Honor (14:29-15:12), and the “cheap pin” was a fallen teammate’s last gift (15:12-16:50). I loved how George’s power isn’t flexing rank-it’s choosing mercy: “He’s just a boy… let the boy learn, but don’t ruin him” (15:51-16:29). That hit hard. If you were George, would you have forgiven that fast, or demanded Miller face the full consequences-and what lesson should every “elite” unit drill into new guys to prevent this kind of arrogance?
Let him wait!!! It'll do him justice in the long run.. it'll give him time to see how asshole cocky he was!!!!
Ask him what punishment he thinks he deserves????
Those that are lucky, smart enough to survive combat listen to those who know !
Trust me bros you will be where this gentleman is very fast!!! Don’t think you will be this age and have these looks and bodies forever, you need to learn to respect the elderly, we have all the knowledge of the past and the wisdom to teach you kiddo’s a thing or two!!! I’m 79 years old and was born in 1946, yes im a boomer and proud of it. If you dont like BOOMERS, THE GREATEST GROUP OF PEOPLE EVER BORN, WHO SAVED THIS COUNTRY FOR YOU LITTLE PUNKS, THEN WENT TO WORK AND MADE THIS COUNTRY WHAT IT IS TODAY THAT YOU ENJOY TREMENDOUSLY, THEN I FEEL SO SORRY FOR YOU !!!! LEARN TO GIVE RESPECT WHERE RESPECT IS DUE!!!
Our bodies, while strong, can't defy time
What matters is what legacy we leave behind, did we achieve what we set out to do
And what is this country today, my boomer friend ? The country you built ?
$30 triilion in debt our grandchildren can never repay. Cities crumbling. Crime out of control. This country is not even White anymore.
Yes, you Boomers did indeed make this country what it is today.
And shame on you for the destruction you have wrought.
Maui Hawaii
That’s not a Vice Admiral . He’s a Captain (O-6).
They don't understand the word continuity. They talk about the vice admiral saluting the senior. But the photo shows a navy captain in the wrong uniform.
I used to think this country was better than its turned out to be. I'm 68, never to old to learn the truth. It sucks!
Things that never happened for 100!
At the millville nj army airport museum for ww2 and the thunderbolts I recall before the covid so many ww2 vets. After the covid only one two for three. Yours truly Evan's w Robinson ret Sgt
haze grey, under way. former aviation electronic 2nd class Petty Officer. circumnavigated the earth, 1987. USS KITTY HAWK CV-63. HOORAH!
Military do not use saucers…lol…
sure they do, with little lace doylies under the saucers 😄
Any body notice the old man's shirt kept changing color and design
And he keeps losing his pin
This may or may not be a true story and that doesn't matter. Unfortunately, the bully attitude of the accusatory naval seal does occur too often in our military ranks.
What kind of picture did they get for this story? Not sure what navy, but they are definitely not wear Seal Trident and the person on the left has a women's head and a camo that says Army.
No way a seal or any JSOC or even military person is going to question or even think about disrespecting a military vet young or old, (unless your Don Shipley and you're on the other end of stolen valor). You don't question anyone and respect them all the way from a Navy SK to Crypto, NCIS etc. Just don't do it. Everyone has a story to tell and a Challenge coin to accept.
at 11.16. The Amiral enters the mess hall and 'Sailors and officers leapt to their feet.' Even assuming a Chief Petty Officer would act like this (which is highly unlikely) why did none of the officers present stop him? Even in the modern Navy discipline could not be that bad.
Um... Yeah. Yeah, at times it is.
Most of us read these stories for entertainment only, knowing that they are all bot generated
For every to there is a fro. At 9:46 Miller thinks he's the top dog, using his hand to grip George's arm. He's forgotten that further down his body his unprotected goolies could receive a good kick from a man who's old but still walking around.
😂😂😂😂😂
I don't care what military service you are but no active duty should EVER harrass a veteran, especially a NAVY SEAL.
this is so sad when you disrespect our soldiers like this you should stop this shit
Excellent story, I enjoyed it very much.
thank you very much from 🇦🇺
Right, never happened.
I find this very hard to believe, Americans are so respectful to veterans.
I worked at Warner Brothers ( Harry potter world). Doing security. When all the American visitors saw my veterans badge they shook my hand and said "Thank you for your service " and thank you for keeping us safe today.
The English visitors said "is all this boll@#ks really necessary .
Respectful to Veterans?? I volunteer at a Food Pantry. Our lines are filled with Veterans who don’t have enough money to eat. Elon Musk cut 28,000 VA jobs. America, Elon Musk, this Administration has zero respect for Veterans.
It's a fantasy story no seal in fact no member of any armed forces would treat someone like that if a civilian is on the ship everyone would know about it and would show their respect
Other than maybe a good natured joke about serving when centurions was a rank not a tank (Have to take that because I've used that myself) I have never had any incidents like that.
This is unbearable
Is this even made by humans??? What a load of crap!
I'll take things that never happened for 10,000 Alex
what's the point of Sailors wearing blue camouflage on a war ship, or any ship or shore posting for that matter. Airforce is next.
Would NEVER happen! The senior NCO's would never allow anything like this even if it did happen among the petty officers...especially in Coronado (old dudes there are usually O-6 or higher
The description of his clothes is totall wrong if one looks at the picture why? In fact the color and arrangement clothes change on this guy all through out
Kendall wis
Yeah I agree with above comment which says army personnel wouldn't do that ..They are not street people.
Wiki says:
Headquarters, 8th Air Force, General Orders No. 13 (January 18, 1945)
(UNCONFIRMED - Citation Needed) - SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to George R. Stanton, United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the EIGHTH Air Force, in aerial operations in the European Theater of Operations, in 1942 and 1943. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
And - Seems you could at the very least get the uniforms right! You set this on a Navy base, and you show Army uniforms, near the end you show a Marine addressing Stanton, and then at the very end it's a Navy officer sitting with Stanton.
Oh my this is so bad .... 😂
I'll take things that never happened for $1000, Alex. And who wrote out all these details? J.R.R. F'N Tolkien?
It’s called an attempt at entertainment; if you don’t wish to interact …….. don’t
It is difficult to believe that such behaviour would be countenanced in ANY western military. Even Muricans have SOME discipline.
I don't believe anyone in the US military would behave like this. They're far too disciplined and respectful of age.
Baloney. Every army has its bad apples, e.g. ex-SEAL Eddie Gallagher, the bozos at Abu Ghraib.
Isn't Master Chief Thorne from HALO? No record of ANY of this. Interested fiction.
Same story different location and people are on several channels 😂
These stories are bullcrap…. No serviceman would treat anyone that way…

Where were these supermen in Vietnam, in Iraq and Afghanistan? Why did the US lose so badly?
Drag it on longer so you can have more adds. Yes it is bullshit!
You don’t call attention in a mess hall and you don’t salute, this is interesting , but full of discrepancies. Some of the seals I supported in Vietnam were like this young seal, and a real pain in the ass. They still have all of their support reporters and camera men blowing their missions out of proportion, but there are a really great number of solid men among them. OOhrah
