hey Adam im a fan of the show if your looking to buy a kit i have an extra one fresh in the box not opened if you want to buy one with al the action figures and all the great add ons . but great weathering
It may seen like a simple thing, but Adam sticking tape on the back of a piece as a handle, is the little tips and ideas I love learning from this channel.
that's such a great idea that i'm pissed at myself for not having thought of it sooner. it's such a 'duh, of course' type of thing. also, one of the many reasons i watch his channel.
Adam's enthusiasm for what is essentially a toy is infectuous! Add to this the opportunity to SEE someone weather a Star Wars vessel who has done so previously as a profession is like looking behind the Wizard's curtain!
The shot with Adam using the rub and buff on the engine interior is just spectacular. To see a well painted toy turn into a really well painted toy, in seconds, and that’s before the wash and rust. And the confidence he has to just do it all at the same time. I would take a day to just do that one part.
He also referred to the "Han in carbonite" and "that's a Greedo." @Joshua Blodgal I don't think he ever lived and breathed Star Wars. He's a fan of the STUFF in Star Wars, but seems mostly a casual fan of the films themselves. Just because he worked on it doesn't mean he's a super-fan. Adam is more an ILM fan than a fan of the films themselves.
The more I watch this type of video the more a realize the art is less able to be put in instruction manual and more the many small tips that are gained by a lifetime working with your art. Thanks for letting us watch.
I love the design of this ship. It's one of my favorite ships from any franchise. I hate to say it, but it's neck and neck with the falcon at this point. And, that has to be one of the best sculpts for a toy I've ever seen. That's the ship I want to fly around in. Park it and camp out somewhere for a while. It's like they looked at the ship from Space Balls and said, _Ya know what? They were kind of on to something there with the flying space Winnebago. Let's show 'em what that would actually look like, but, let's make it an AirStream._
When Norm first unboxed this model, I was so disappointed in the dull gray panels in the engines; just a couple minutes work by an expert and they look amazing. Can't wait to see the lights installed!
I'm not particularly interested in models or Star Wars but, christ, if Adam isn't just the most likeable, talented, enthusiastic guy... Each of these 40+min videos just flies... Love it.
love it. it looks like its gone in and out of atmosphere countless times. broke went to bobs discount ship repair duct taped and bailing wired and is still chuggin. just a real lived in ship.
One of my favorite tricks I picked up for doing WW2 aircraft, is putting on some dark streaks on the engine cowling, like there was an engine fire at some point.
@@ARFF1Tampa I'm very new to this stuff, but I've found that mixing like... store bought "metallic" acrylic paints like pewter or "silver" or whatever with a rust or red color acrylic can make a nice "shiny" dark red, and blending that in with some metallic blues and golds can make that burned metal effect. I'd love to see your Phantom project, best wishes
Exactly. I don't know if he was going for a super mirror chrome look, but you can get that using the Spaz Stix backer paint as well (it's a really high gloss black). Once you spray the chrome over that, it just accents the already mirror gloss in the black with great results (for those that don't know).
This is eye-opening stuff. Excuse my naivety, but I looked at this “toy” and wondered what they could possibly do to it to make it more awesome. 40 minutes later, I’m rushing, to my computer, to order my own, as well as supplies, to customize my own. Cheers Adam & Norm! 👍👍

Working in the automotive industry on injection molded parts, I totally appreciate your comments on tooling costs, and cost-benefit analysis for manufacturing. Just one more reason for me to be an Adam Savage fan.
Not sure if this has already been mentioned but Spaz Stix is not meant to be applied as a primary. Like AllClad metalizers it fleas better when applied in very light coats over a high gloss black base. Usually to about 80% opacity. It’s how many of us do our Mando helmets and beskar armor. Also. Need ti spray at very low pressure. Around 8-10 psi.
Everytime I watch one of these painting/weathering builds you always have me start thinking about ways I can customize my film/stills cameras to make them look more like my personality.
Even as a kid back in the Kenner toy days, I was never satisfied with the look out of the box. I would embellish mine! Crazy, brings back great memories!
I love seeing him ILM this thing because me being a model builder I love seeing everything he dose. Because I know what he is doing and why he is doing it. And. I get and under stand the reason for things.
I think these videos where Adam and Norm work together on some building or painting project are the most informative ones. I would like to see more collaborations of this nature.
Can we get a petition? Just give Adam the camera and upload it uncut. We'll watch 12hrs of him no problem, because my God, the world needs it. Especially with the minutia and detail we love seeing Adam get into.

So many RazorCrest owners wouldn’t dare customize their brand new Haslab project... BUT of course, they don’t have Adam Savage as a buddy neither....Great video. Love watching the two of you brainstorm and immediately go to town on that beautiful piece of plastic goodness. Thanks for that & ☮️
My first time (recently) tackling weathering, was on a gundam model. I took a 1/144 model I made, first I used a knife and small sanding stick and just scuffed it up and put cuts/nic's into it. Then I used markers, and various paints I had lying around and just did some washes over it and cleaned it off little by little. Finally I took a lighter and burned various small parts to give it the look of having taken blast in battle. It was fun
This model is amazing, adam you are so right. I have a Mel falcon original model and when you see the difference now….. it’s amazing….. thanks for sharing the process….. adam please get a kit and show us what you can do….. I can’t wait….. thanks

Well, if you were going to keep it and display it, you can easily make it much better. The legs aren't even fully painted. And, the bigger the model, the easier it is to do. Like when building car models, I like to think of it like "I'm building a complete model of an engine". Not "I'm just building the engine part of a model".
