I'd love to hear the CB radio trucker ones. One thing that's always forgotten about 80s technology, crossed lines. We'd often get one of some old lady knitting group from a few towns over whenever we picked up the telephone sometimes. But those TV adverts/promos etc. they're the things you get annoyed about as a kid and would fast forward through, but they seem to bring more nostalgia than any of the TV shows or movies you'd record. My first ever VHS tape has episodes of Thomas the tank engine on it. A massive 1 hour long tape :D

I lived a sheltered life here in Scotland.
Carne João Pasta Thanks! I think that people who are older like me enjoy the memories and younger people who weren't born yet enjoy seeing how different it was!
Loved this video!!! Awesome!! I guess you are 7 years older than, from what I figured out in the Christmas video. I remember my parents first vcr was a JVC and we got it 1985 or 1986. I'm not sure. I have an old VHS tape that was recorded in 1987 with a music video countdown from that year on it. We never had cable or sattelite, till 1995! So when I wanted to see music videos, I had to watch them on this hour program that came on at 11pm at night, which was called "All hit videos". My mom would tape it for me cuz I wasn't allowed to stay up that late. I still watch that old vhs tape every once in a while. That is so cool that you stll lhave your first VHS tape! My parents didn't get a camecorder till 1995, when I graduated high school. That was the only reason they bought it, so they could film my graduation.
Thank you. That was very enjoyable. Very enjoyable. It's weird getting used to glimpses of everyday life from that long ago once again, for more than 30 years since then.
That would be great. I'd love it if you could find more footage from way back then. When I watch it, I become accustomed to remembering exactly what everyday life was like, within the limitations of that time, not imagining the present time, since, to be any different. Then, when the tape ends, I break out of trance and realize that it's been more than 30 years past, and the experience is mesmerizing. Keep that old footage coming, bro. :)
lol my dad showed us some fragle rock a few years ago on RUclips, "down in Fragle rock, save work for another day, down in fragle rock" only watched a few but it was nice to see what he watched before they got rid of there tv when he was young, we don't have one (I'm glad for that, because I would probably waste so much time watching it, at least a computer your doing things)
I watched a lot of TV when I was a kid. Now I do not watch TV at all. Not to say that I don't watch movies. I do watch those. But I think that the programs on TV are mostly garbage.

As it just so happens, I got my first official video tape in May 2014. It's a Beta tape, and it remained blank until I finally struck luck and got a working beta in July. Still my personal favorite tape, besides my "Akira" tape. I'm still using my Beta to the fullest. Thanks for letting those of us live in the 80s who never got the chance before!
In the 1980s my uncle got free cable TV by laying a long length of cable alongside the feed buried at the end of his garden by the TV company. This was before they started scrambling channels.

Yeah, Weird Paul! I remember jamming a playing card into cable box just above the big dial to make HBO unscramble. Kind of a weird hack but it worked well enough they had to upgrade the cable boxes so you couldn't do that anymore.
Awesomeness. On the tape I would like to see any of the classic video game commercials or anything that's video game related that you recorded back then.
I think your neighbor had an RF transmitter on their cable box so they could broadcast what ever channel the box was on to multiple rabbit ear TV on channel 5 in order to avoid paying for extra boxes.
That was around the same year my mom and dad got a General Electric VHS VCR. A couple of years later, they got a JVC camcorder that used those mini tapes you had to insert into the larger VHS adapter. We went through God knows how many VHS tapes recording all sorts of stuff -- TV shows, movies, family gatherings, holidays, birthday parties, improvised skits me and my sisters would put on, recitals, school plays, etc. One thing I found frustrating about that VCR -- we never figured out how to program the digital clock, and it would always flash "Sun 12:00 AM"! Good times! LOL!
I can’t believe you got HBO thru a regular antenna. Did you ever discover how this happened? I know early adopters of satellite dishes were getting stuff fir free, but not rabbit ears! This is like discovering a portal to an alternate dimension!!
It was a thing that definitely can't happen in this day and age. Not only were we getting HBO, we were also pulling in WOR from New York which at that time was carried on many cable providers. Though I was never able to figure it out, somebody recently commented that it could have been that one of my neighbors was illegally pulling in the signals and I was getting the run-off.
see i prefer dvd vcd and laser disc i love how you use vhs for your yt videos its great to see others still using physical media in the digital age keep up the great videos
I'd love to see you do a tutorial for converting this footage. I have lots of old home movies that I used to make just like you and am looking to digitize them. You're so good at it that I dont want to learn from anyone else!

I remember back in the 90s something with so many people had descrambler boxes it was affecting the satellite signals and everyone had free pay channels for like 3 months.

I remember getting a local UHF channel that very hard to find movies on it and unedited too! My favorite 80's programs are still not on tape or DVD. You Can't do that on TV, Head of the Class and season 3-6 of CHIPS.
Henry S We were pulling in WGN from New York and I remember seeing commercials for movies that never even came to Pittsburgh. I taped a ton of SNL with Eddie Murphy, Joe Piscopo, etc and that will probably never be on DVD
oh wow! this is amazing. My dad recorded about 15 vhs tapes full of Music Videos from MTV and VH1 during the 80s and 90s. My brother & I would watch them over & over. I specifically remember videos from New Edition and he had "Come one Eileen" just like you did. My brothers fav part was always watching the commercials. Wonder if dad still has those tapes?? Great video!
+Crystal Camacho Thanks! Those tapes sound PRICELESS. I am always hoping I will go to a thrift store or rummage sale and find an old tape full of MTV in the 80s.
The oldest tape is the one I remember most: it was a recording of VH1 airing New Years 1984- which happens to be the year I was born. It had a recording of "Batteries Not Included", lots of commercials and some videos. I gotta convince him to find the tapes so I can try to upload a few and transfer them to DVD also. There is a big thrift store by my dentist. I will stop by next time I go- thanks for the idea.
You got your VCR the exact day and year I was born. But who cares about that?! No joke, we didn't have cable either and mysteriously, we were able to tune into only HBO on a random channel. It was the best years of my life. Not Necessarily the News, Fraggle Rock, Encyclopedia, and secretly Dream On in the 90s-hahha!...ah, HBO. Thank you for another great trip down memory lane. My baby sister had to go and ruin it by pushing my older sister into the TV during one of our many cat fights. It marked the end of HBO, and a trip to the store to buy a TV ...with a REMOTE!
Wow, really? That's wild! I got to see a lot of shows and movies on that HBO I never would have seen otherwise. I had the TV tuned to that channel constantly, I would even re-watch the stuff I'd already seen. After awhile, there were days it wouldn't come in. I would always wonder if it would come back or be gone forever. Man, what happened when she pushed her into the TV, did the screen break?
+ORIGINAL VLOGGER 80'S WEIRD PAUL The power knob broke off. We were without a tv for a little while. I guess that can be categorized as first world problems. I was back to watching PBS-no more free HBO. I didn't get cable until I got married. 😩
My sister and I broke the knob on our TV too - must have been around 1980. We kept turning it on and off, on and off, saying "ON!" and "OFF!" as each of us did it. Eventually one of us said "ON!" but it didn't come on. I remember drawing a comic of it happening - I wonder if I still have that comic!
Hey Paul! I keep commenting on your videos because something keeps coming up ... Anyway I was just thinking that it was probably a good thing that you kept yourself so busy creatively because it probably kept you out of trouble. Back in the 80's there were lots of negative things young kids could have been caught up in.
Orlando Cruz There were kids in my school who got into trouble, sure. I didn't really have any friends in school most of the time. Most kids thought I was weird (I was) and didn't want anything to do with me. Now some of those same kids think I'm cool. But not all of them!
ORIGINAL VLOGGER 80'S WEIRD PAUL I hear you loud and clear Paul. They thought you were a GEEK. But you know? It is COOL to be a GEEK nowadays. Yeah! Yeah! I know that having "swag" is revered as the ultimate male trate but nerds or geeks are popular as well. They are the one's becoming millionaire entrepreneurs. Maybe you'll be the next. LOL
that HBO thing trips me out. did you ever find anything about that? I used to play with the TV/radio as a kid, trying to get far away channels. but that takes the cake! I'd be obsessing about that like crazy. heck my gut is turning right now, hungry for answers. Sad how everything is digital now, it strips the fun stuff like that out. :(
I never did make any sense out of why it was there some days, not other days. Some days clearer than others. One day it just disappeared, just as it had appeared...with no warning.
Just a suggestion, and it may have already been mentioned, it would be cool to show off your vintage t-shirts from the 70's/80's if you still have them.
Hmm there was some weird HBO stuff going on in the 80's..We 1st got cable in maybe 87-88, and after a few months one day, for some reason HBO came in and stayed on for months. It was a little fuzzier then the rest of the channels, but not too bad....But HBO coming in without a cable subscription is just bizarre! Well not like out families were complaining right? lol.....BTW 80's Found Footage is you?! I subscribed to that channel couple months back I believe
+Stevaside Yep, 80s TV & Found Footage is me! You found that channel first? That's cool. Getting channels in like that was totally an 80s thing, there's no way that can happen now with Fios and satellite dishes...
Yep...& u wanna know how I found ur main channel here? Me & my sister were reminsicing recently about one of our favorite 80's toys, play food haha..u know the sets that would come with minature plastic cans & boxes of actual name brand food products..I searched 80s play food I think & ur food label video showed up....& oh yea, that stuff was only possible during the old slider box wired to your TV era =P
ORIGINAL VLOGGER 80'S WEIRD PAUL i would like to have AN autentic 80s camera But new , for recording moments with my family , i wonder how it would see in old camera picture , But i think i need AN empty video tape

It had a recording of "Batteries Not Included", lots of commercials and some videos. I gotta convince him to find the tapes so I can try to upload a few and transfer them to DVD also. There is a big thrift store by my dentist. I will stop by next time I go- thanks for the idea.
+Crystal Camacho Man, that tape sounds so cool.
This is the coolest fucking guy ever omg
Thanks!

3:09 Woah that middle school is bigger than the one I went to!
+John Notstamos It was huge!
It's like a time capsule.
My whole life is turning into one!
I don't know you from a hole in the wall, but based off of your treasures, I am sure you do have that comic!! Haha! Please find it!!!!
Tubey Toys
I'm going to look for it!
I still record live sports on blank vhs tapes
LOL
2:48 RIP Olivia.
Good video! Im suscribing (Sorry for my english, im argentinian)
Loquendo Lauta Glad you liked the video and thank you for subscribing!
that HBO thing trips me out. did you ever find anything about that? I used to play with the TV/radio as a kid, trying to get far away channels. but that takes the cake! I'd be obsessing about that like crazy. heck my gut is turning right now, hungry for answers.
Sad how everything is digital now, it strips the fun stuff like that out. :(
I never did make any sense out of why it was there some days, not other days. Some days clearer than others. One day it just disappeared, just as it had appeared...with no warning.
I went beta. It seemed like the obvious choice. It came with a remote-with a cord! !
I believe I recorded the McEnroe - Lendl Wimbledon final in 81???
Just a suggestion, and it may have already been mentioned, it would be cool to show off your vintage t-shirts from the 70's/80's if you still have them.
rusty shackleford Most of my shirts got holes in them and got thrown away. I still have a few, but maybe not enough for a video...
I audio tape recorded the V theme, Escape from New York theme and an Unknown Comic special off of scrambled pay-per-view
I audio taped the Escape From New York theme, too!! I remember how much I loved that piece of music.
Joe Denardo and Don Cannon, oh my!!!
Did you remember watching Short Circuit on HBO?
Well that's great! I love to hear when people search for old stuff and my videos come up!
Is the book of "The Jerk" a junior novelization? I've never seen a movie tie-in book that thin before.
Chris DeCarlo is now at W I N D fm in Florida
Oooooh interesting !
Thanks Maria!
ORIGINAL VLOGGER 80'S WEIRD PAUL i would like to have AN autentic 80s camera But new , for recording moments with my family , i wonder how it would see in old camera picture , But i think i need AN empty video tape
That would be interesting to see. You could use an empty videotape, but you could also record over any videotape.
I would make a copy of it and put the original tape in a golden frame! :)
2:35 that truckers voice reminds me of the mattel game b17 bomber voice. "Mattel Electronics presents B-17 BOOOOMBER!"
yes. cool to see you here
@@RhodeAnimate Hey! Nice to see ya too mate!
This man is so rich
WOW!!! You kind of look like Kurt Cobain!!!
I always thought he kind of looked like me.
He records on a VHS camera, I bet.
