Exactly the same problem, five minute fix. It took me longer to guess the parts than to do the job. If anyone is interested, I used: 16 gauge wire 16-14 gauge 1/4” female quick disconnect 16-14 gauge butt connector Pliers Wire cutters/connectors Thank you JAS ON, especially for making sure we could see what you were doing! So appreciate you!!!
Just wanted to say that I've been having the problem for awhile, and fixed the worn wires at the trunk hinge to no avail. Thanks to this video, I now have working brake, tail, and flasher lights on the passenger side again! Thank you for saving me hundreds of dollars!
Thanks, Jas! It worked! I followed your instructions step by step. The dealership had given me an astronomical (hundreds) estimate. I went to Autozone and grabbed the needed items for under $35 and did it myself. The left tail light is now fixed. The same wire as yours also - brown.
Thanks so much for making this video. Have the same issue with an intermittently working tail light and read a few articles online about this fix but this makes it really easy to understand and follow.
awesome video man i didnt think it was that simple of a fix just by cutting n bending the metal. mine was the brown too on a 04 325i and the pin connecter was completely shot so i couldnt even solder it back on there.
Thanks for the video! Usually on diy forums and videos there is another type of socket circuit different from yours and mine which has a little tab and this was a great help.
Gread video...helped me figure this mystery out...my only question is, will this have any effect on the surrounding electricals...is it safe to run the wires directly?
Looks so easy but I have never done anything myself before so not sure if I should give it a go and try to get the parts and tools available or pay 50 quid for the person to fix it.
Majority of time it'll be a bulb I've never had one that had that problem like yours did I know that when I install LED lights I will get that light but other than that never had that problem before
Recall issue. Bad ground pin connection. Cut the wire (should be brown) splice a piece of wire, crimp a female tab socket and connect it to the bulb holder tab (face lift after 2001 has such a tab. I gess pre-facelift should have one too.
I hope you see this, I was wondering if you know why the high beams, indicators (both on the dash and at the front and back) and dash lights wouldn't be working? I hope you can help
Ryan Leyrishwiin There’s probably a short underneath the dash take out the aftermarket head unit and redo all the connections and check for any cut or bent wires
I see a couple of cut or not connected wires but I don't know where they are meant to connect to, I'm guessing the oem stereo as there is a clip on attachment there with nothing for it to clip onto
Hi, before going through all the steps to see if it works or not, Can I check by touching the exposed brown cord to the flange? I tried just doing that to double check I chose the correct one, but simply touching the cord to any of them doesn’t make the lights work. I have a 525i 2001 and the entire housing is different. Any help would help, recently got pulled over twice, with warnings.
I found that i have the exact same problem same melted housing and everything im thinking of just replacing the whole assembly but before i do so I wanna pin point the exact problem causing this bad ground before it does it to my new assembly im getting any thoughts on what it can be?
Thanks Jas but I am in the UK so cant buy it from those places and seems most places will only sell a long wire etc. Maybe I should just pay 50 quid for a guy to do the same thing.
make sure you count the right cable number and flange. If off then it wont work. Also is there multiple burnt pins cause each will need to be circumvented. If that does not work it may be a different issue something internal in light fixture beyond a simple burnt pin. good luck
We’ll sure enough both my brown wires on each side left and right are burnt out. Same 3rd wire. Is there a specific wire you use to connect the points at?

This was awesome. Fixed it in 5 minutes if you have the tools. I didn’t use an extra cable, the brown was long enough to to connect directly.

I know this is old content but thx so much you saved me hundreds of dollars
You are the man! I have the exact same problem and my mechanic hasn't been able to find a replacement part so guess what I'm gana do! Thanks man!

worked for me, as long as you dont tamper with other wires the surrounding electicals are fine. There is a fuse box for safety if you do it wrong.
Looks so easy but I have never done anything myself before so not sure if I should give it a go and try to get the parts and tools available or pay 50 quid for the person to fix it.
Thanks for this, having the exact same issue, with the exact same side!
This fixed it, many thanks!
Cheers brother helped me out when i didnt have the cash to fix it any other way
I stuffed broken connections with copper wire, now connections works perfectly
Thanks for that , tried this first. Easy fix, used brittle copper wire about 5 mm and used it as a pin connector. Mine was the brown one too.

wow! Awesome video! I have a similar problem. Break light wont work. I am gonna try it instead of buying the harness and tail light assemble
Thank you
Great video! What gauge wire are you using to jump this? thanks
I added a link in the description for the wire I used
are the female connectors also called spade connectors?
Can other size connectors or wire be used? I am finding it hard to locate those size female connectors in the UK
Great Simple Solution, Because Mine Did The Same Thing. Thank You For Sharing.
What Caused this? My step dad has the same problem
This did not work for mine. Even ordered a new hosing. New plug and new wires. Took it to a wiring shop down here and he was met with the same issue
My e46 has the same problems but with the break lights hopefully this can solved my issue instead of replacing my taillights
did you try it...was it effective?
Thank you!
I hope you see this, I was wondering if you know why the high beams, indicators (both on the dash and at the front and back) and dash lights wouldn't be working? I hope you can help
Ryan Leyrishwiin check you fuse
I tried, it's all not broken or damaged, the previous owner told me that they stopped working after installing an aftermarket head unit

same thing just happened to me..great vid thanx
saved my life🫡

Thanks it worked!
Lucky.. I got a ticket! $1,000 bucks..
I found that i have the exact same problem same melted housing and everything im thinking of just replacing the whole assembly but before i do so I wanna pin point the exact problem causing this bad ground before it does it to my new assembly im getting any thoughts on what it can be?
I dont know the name exactly of the wire and the connectors he used. It would be good the exact names and where to buy them from
Please see the links in the video description shows you where to buy them
Thanks Jas but I am in the UK so cant buy it from those places and seems most places will only sell a long wire etc. Maybe I should just pay 50 quid for a guy to do the same thing.

They're all the same just look at it
Thanks this really helped!
Love this bless u fam
Would be great to know what kind of wiring you are using?
Thanks!
I added a link the video description for the wire used
@@upsilon1998 thank you very much for this video and for the link for the wire
Nice work, dude!
My issue is the signal light, will this solve my problem with the signal light? I have 2004, 320i.
Pelzon P if it’s not the bulb couldn’t hurt to try.
@@upsilon1998 the bulb is ok. My housing does not look the same but I think I will try...
What amp is the wire?
Tried this and didn't work but my housing looks a little different any help?
