How to Engrave Mirror and Glass - Xtools D1 Laser

Never would have thought to try 3 in 1. This warrants further experimentation on my part!
Nice video explainging, I've been doing a few of these mirrors now and you could try the following:
Making sure the mirror has a dark back...... engrave on the back side of the mirror around 120mm/s 100% power (settings works on my 20W D1 Pro) Remember to reverse (mirror) the project too!
Raise the mirror off the bed a little using the magnets or 1cm blocks on all corners (This will prevent any 'flashing' from the laser hitting the honeycomb bed and bound back to the mirror)
Keep up the good work...
I remember doing this in school, grade 10 graphic arts class, but we did it with a stencil and paste. I did a dragon. It looked cool because i dabbed the paste on and it created a firey look.
Thank you for your tips. I just got my laser and this video was a big help!😊
For the mirror, flip the mirror over, then reverse the image and then burn it into the back of the mirror when finished take the mirror and a magic eraser to the sink and wash off..
This is the best way to etch mirrors 🤙
Different methods deliver different results. He did the same way you would engrave glass but the method you mentioned gives a see through effect which looks amazing with a light behind it
That was going to be my question. I've watched several videos where most have them have placed the mirror facing down. I was wondering what the difference is and you nailed it!
Mirror facing up adds to the surface, and facing down it is removing it resulting in see thru affect.
What a game changer. I have done glass etching for 30 years now. Apparently old school. Which is cutting the design out by hand and then etching it by sandblasting or acid etching. This would be way faster and not not as expensive as purchasing a large air compressor and sandblasting booth.
I've used acid etching before. can be tedious but fun.
That's really cool! I love the tiger!
i found that if you drill out the nozzle s bit larger (1/64th) the air assist works way better. The original hole will still clog on granite and long time cuts. Cheers from the Texas
Black tempera paint works great for me and washes with water.
They came out lovely didn't they. I can't wait to see what you use them for! That Xtool can do so much can't it Steve. A very handy piece of kit. You give people so much inspiration with your videos you know Steve. I love watching them. As soon as I saw this one pop up, I pounced on it lol. God bless you and your family.
My wish list grows every time you make something. Lol. I think I would enjoy this machine, but it will just have to wait for now. Thank you Steve 😊!!! I enjoy learning from you so much!
SAME! lol
I like to see what the backing of that mirror looks like after you burnt the tiger into it using the The zinc paint
The zink as it burns off also corodes the laser lense.... learned that the hard way.
I have seriously been thinking about buying the M1 rather than the D1 as it can also do vinyl etc. very scary proposition so, taking my time before I actually do it 😆
THANK YOU CLEAR UP SO MUCH O HOW DID OUTSTANDING
Awsum video great help
Thanks for this!
Awesome have to say Iam curious to try on mine 🤔😉
Wow Awesome. So card stock method. Question can you use black construction paper?
NICE WORK--
Great video, but maybe I missed something. I didn’t hear you explain why you use the 3in1 oil?. I’ve not seen anyone else use it so what’s it’s purpose please.
At 6;40 I think it looks pretty cool.
Great video. Can u demonstrate the glass process with a photo
Hi Steve, first of all, thanks for the video. I have a few questions:
1) What kind of oil do you drip on the glass? Is that really necessary? 2) Besides Power and Speed, do you use any extra settings?
3) Does this process also work for clear acrylic? Thank you very much
I like the idea of being able t take the paint off with the alcohol - no one else has mentioned that. On the glass with the oil and paper - where do you focus the laser?
WAY easyer to use "prang washable paint" 1:1 water ... dip the item then let it dry ... settings you like then just raise in hot water comes right off..
It was a very educational video. Thanks. I have xtool d1 pro 20w laser machine. I couldn't engrave the picture on a kind of acrylic😔😊😊 I use black wash paint. Do you think I should pay attention? Thanks
nice, you should also maybe try out using cermark spray on the glass and draw design into the glass with the laser
Hi, can i ask what the difference would be using the cermark spray?.
so if you're using a glass cup, you make a tube if black paper on the inside? and im assuming not mirror it right?
Hi Steve, are you using lightburn yet. I want to specialize in photos with my D1 Pro. Thanks, Marie
The transparent crystal can be engraved in the xTool M1 ? excellent 🙌🇵🇷
Thanks for the video mate how high up did you have your air pump please? Thanks
Isn't burning stuff that is galvanized poisonous ?
How much would you charge for a piece such as this?
Hi Steve how did you focus the Laser was
it on the glass
What's with the focus? Do you set on the top or bottom of the glass?
Thank you for sharing! I’m saving this to test on some glass plates. Have you done any ceramic with the D1. Thanks for using the basic software, I downloaded Lightburn but it’s a process to learn it
Thanx for the video!
What is the laser power 5w 10 w?
I was wondering about the safety of these lasers. There is no light blocking case over it, is there a concern about protecting your eyes or anything else near by? What about the laser reflecting off the mirror?
Safety is very important. I always say in my videos time to put on the laser protective glasses. 👍
you can and should buy or build an enclosure. the xtool one comes with a supposedly laser rated window, and the orange plastic block also works to some degree. just watch where you're looking without your glasses. another big reason for the enclosure, you can mount a hose to an air purifier or to an outside vent.
what program do you use to import that image? thank you
Where did you buy the air assist from?
Great video! The focus of the laser when engraving the glass is on the top or bottom side of the glass?
You're 100% certain that lasering zinc is a good idea???
Why don't you simply use black tempera paint? It's super cheap and will give you a result as good and probably better. The glass comes out frosty white when using black tempera paint. If you want a darker engraving , use white acrylic paint which will engrave more black into the glass than tempera paint. The key for the best results is of course for the coat or paint (or other medium you use) to be as even as possible. Airbrushing tempera paint mixed with water is a breeze and dries in minutes with a fan or seconds with a hairdryer and will leave a perfectly uniform coat. Simply rinse it under water for a few seconds and the paint will wash right now.
Thanks for the insight, very helpful. I wonder, would a different colored construction paper etch a different color?
Have you tried engraving onto the back side of a mirror? If so, what were the results of the test?
Bonjour, pour ma part c'est ce que je fais puissance 1000(laser 20w) avance 1000 puis une fois fini nettoyage avec de l'acide de ménage et une brosse à dent avec un petit rétroéclairage c'est très jolie Salutation de France.
you can do it. just remember to flip the image or text so it can be read innthe front side
@@pierre-louischassaing4584thanks for the tip🙂
why would you do the front of the mirror, you do the back, then you just burn off the coating, your way is just dumb.
So many failures
So so many
Friend,I really appreciate your work. We are looking for reviewers, would you like to review Longer's laser engraver RAY5 10W?
Just to let you know, mirrors are engrave from the back, never from the front, glass as well!!
And how do you tell which side is the back of glass?.
I was wondering about the safety of these lasers. There is no light blocking case over it, is there a concern about protecting your eyes or anything else near by? What about the laser reflecting off the mirror?
glasses are to be worn by anyone near/watching the laser, they are special glasses specifically for laser work
Nice video, thanks :)
