This song was covered by The Peppermint Rainbow in 1969. The Peppermint Rainbow, a Spanky And Our Gang soundalike, was a folk rock group that should have been bigger. Their only real hit was a cover of the British band Royalty's "Will You Be Staying After Sunday"
A different, up-tempo version of this song appears on the Bobby Vee album "Do What You Gotta Do". This version is more complex, with more instrumentation, voices etc, but I like the album version even better.
This is possibly Bobby Vee's best song ever! He also recorded a different (faster) version on an album. I actually liked that version better, but they're both incredibly great...... and never a hit??? Go figure!
@MrJohnoFClohessy Well, you might be able to order The Peppermint Rainbow's album for Amazon.com for a reasonable price. I did. If you like soft folk pop that album is for you.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Jack Nitzsche! HIS arrangement.
