It's actually way worse. As far as the people who made it through the portal know, RWBY, Penny, and Jaune are all dead. Think about how broken Weiss, Blake, and Yang would be if they thought Ruby had died. For JNR, losing Jaune has got to be 10 times worse. And now, all of their closest friends and family are dead and they have to pick up the pieces.
