There is no future-proofing for gaming unless you're purchasing all the flagship products. Games benefit more from IPC gains and cache size increases generation-to-generation. Just look at the Ryzen 2600x vs 2700x in today's games. Their performance difference is still virtually the same as it used to be when they launched 4 years ago. All those people who shelled out extra cash for the 2700x thinking two extra cores would benefit them after X amount of years were just delusional. Yes, there might come a time when the optimal gaming CPU core count will go up to 8. But when that day comes, the new 6-core CPUs will still wipe the floor with the 5700x due to IPC, clock and cache improvements. Just like the 5600x is doing with every previous 8-core Ryzen CPU that came before it. Trying to "future-proof" a budget gaming rig is a fool's errand. Buy cheap, use for a few years, then buy the newest cheap offerings again, rinse, repeat.
Well they cost exactly the same where I live so I think that 5700x is a better choice for longevity of the PC even tho they are practically the same for gaming at the moment.
The problem with all these gaming tests is that you don't really account on how optimized game's usage of multithreading is, and what's more important, people don't only play games on processors.
Just about everything is about the GPU now, you're better off spending your extra money there, getting a good mid-range multicore with a high clock. You'll really only need the extra cores for compute and decoding, etc. As a general rule 'extra' cores has been a waste for gaming compared to higher clocks and a better GPU.
@@abeedhal6519 And most CPUs you can get at entry to moderate budget pricing will give you enough threads to meet the need. Before you get more threads, the ability to reach higher clocks still matters most. The point being is that you can cut the budget on the cpu, you just don't need even a $300+ CPU for gaming, you're much better off putting more money towards the GPU in terms of price to performance for your build. Unless a game is using some yet never-before-seen engine tech and mechanics, if a game is even 60% as dependent on a CPU having more than 8 threads as it is on GPU processing, the devs did something seriously wrong.

In a nutshell: "The 5700X has the performence of the 5800X but has the power usage of a 5600X."
After seeing people get burned with the i5-6600k or 7600k,.... I'd pick the 5700x any day.
CPU core counts and performance is advancing at a healthy rate, sooner or later 8 cores will be the norm for a Gaming PC.
The problem with the i5-6600K and i5-7600K is its 14++++. Also the i5-7600K only had 6MB of cache, thats tiny compared to the Ryzen 5 5600 healthy 32MB of cache
@@francissauve6685 But 14nm is more stable.
@@antonioytm Um, what? That makes no sense.
@@aywinfur3991 So why you can OC more and effectively intel than amd?
Because their architecture is bigger which means bigger temps but also bigger clocks.
Tell that to the R7 2700X. Single core performance is still king in gaming. R5 5600X is a perfect example with only 6 cores.
I Guess for streaming+gaming the 5700X, I wouldn't choose the 5800X due to high temps, besides, the 5700 is maybe 5-8% slower than a 5800X and the 5700X is plenty powerful at lower temps, still providing 8 cores 16 threads proving to be good when gaming + streaming at the same time.
exactly why for some people it's worth going to the 5700x over 5600x
hm nice advice
@@TranceHistorian For sure, it's mainly the core count and threads that attracts buyers for the 5700X and 5800X over the 5600X, although at this time of the year I wouldn't recommend people buy either if they still need to buy a new motherboard for a good upgrade, I personally am sitting on an i7-9700 which is ok for gaming but not ideal for streaming at 8C 8T with ok single core performance, I'm waiting for intel's 13th gen i7-13700 or AMD's ryzen 7 7800X (if amd supports DDR4 that is), my budget for the new CPU will be around 350-380$. AMD's releasing around september and Intel's around October, we'll see!
@@ZealousPumpkinTV fair enough! I just wanna say that if you keep waiting for next gen and next gen you will never upgrade. AM4 is super flexible platform and will be cheap as chips soon, while AM5 and DDR5 will remain expensive for a while yet.
@@camotech1314 Exactly why I am looking for upgrading as the 5700x is 45€ cheaper than the 5800x but I will see when the 7x00 comes out, if they get even cheaper, honestly more incline for the 5800x if the prices eventually get even closer. 5700x currently sitting at 275€ for me vs 320€ for 5800x. Yes I know 57 is better but I do want the bit of OC freedom the 58 provides by undervolting
So they pretty much perform identically in most games?
That's actually pretty typical with AMD since Zen 2. Most of these games aren't utilizing every core. 3600x gets about same fps as 3800x. Same for 5600x and 5800x. They're all great for gaming. Just buy the one in your budget and needs.
@@Magnum_Express I was about to upgrade for the 5600x but I might just go for the 5700x since the price isn't all that different anyway. And yes I agree with you.

How does the Ryzen 7 5700G CPU compare to these? I know the L3 cache (16Mb) is lower on the 5700G but this CPU preforms really well using an external GPU with a slight overclock on the CPU and using 3800Mhz DDR4 ram (2sticks of 16Gb) Asus B550 MB. I had to buy a "pre-built" a few months back to get a decent GPU without robbing a bank and it came with the 5700G CPU. It's really snappy and multi-tasks really well with its 8cores 16threads. With the overclock applied the 5700G is not "straining" at all playing AAA games and is also a 65TDP CPU. I do not know if the increased 32Mb L3 cache would improve my performance at all. Any input would be appreciated!
its definitely a worse performer, I would only get it if you really cant live without the Vega GPU
doesn't support gen 4, and no precision boost overdrive
It has a integrated graphics card it might be cheaper but it’s not the same
The 5600 makes this choice more difficult
I'm a common multi-tasker, and my 3rd gen i5 is still going strong on my iMac. Though it is falling behind when graphics are raised (high, etc.), and 10 or more tabs are opened. 8 cores for future proofing, if you want to keep the cpu for like say 3-5 years
There is no future-proofing for gaming unless you're purchasing all the flagship products.
Buy cheap, use for a few years, then buy the newest cheap offerings again, rinse, repeat.

so they have same graphics hardware baked on chips?
Just about everything is about the GPU now, you're better off spending your extra money there, getting a good mid-range multicore with a high clock. You'll really only need the extra cores for compute and decoding, etc. As a general rule 'extra' cores has been a waste for gaming compared to higher clocks and a better GPU.
Depends what games you’re playing.
No that is definitely false. There are many games that are very cpu intensive making use of more threads ect.
