- Cops in Edmonton, Canada, got a surprise when they seized a pickup truck in a three-month probe. Officers soon found this wasn’t an ordinary pickup. This Dodge Ram had a custom modification. As a veteran body man I'm super impressed. To figure out how to build the rails for the console to slide and to wire it into factory buttons is amazing. It took some serious engineering skills for the wiring. Today so many systems like radio and lights for example run through the same wire or fuses. This looks so simple but a ton of work went into making this work. I know

Yes they did. It’s commonly a thing where a combination of radio controls or other controls in the vehicle trigger a motor that opens or reveals a secret compartment for drug trafficking.

Border patrol makes a living of tearing apart cars to find drugs and weapons. Some people even tried smuggling inside their tires they were driving on and still get caught.

I think the driver of the car told. If confronted about something being off, in Canada at least, it’s much easier to just admit it rather than get put through the ringer.

I talked to a guy that was a welder near the border and he said there’s a lot more trucks than you’d think down there that have some pretty serious armor/bulletproof windows. Theres a story of one these cars being targeted down south by multiple armed assailants and the occupants only being shot because the bullet went through the lock in the door or some other freak thing. Makes you think.

no combination needed. The console was open when they found it. All they had to do is figure out that it was actuated by servos and the rest is easy:
cut a few wires and apply power. Boom, there goes your demonstration!

these secret compartment systems have been around for at least 20 years or more. I remember seeing a car that had one installed that was profiled years ago on an episode of the Canadian TV Program Masterminds. In some areas, you can be charged with a crime just for having a secret compartment like this on your vehicle, even if the police don't find anything illegal stored in it. I would just say I don't want the police to steal my legally obtained money through civil asset theft practices.
Canada is just a joke of country to begin with. Being charge by just having it with nothing bad in it? Hell you can charge with assault or murder for simply defending ur self even if ur life is in danger and ur about to be murdered. The cowardly Canadian government want you to just take the beating or be killed rather then you defending ur self or loved ones. I know a guy who got pulled over with five bricks in the car and was allowed to drive away with them because they were informants anything illigal you do the government knows of it all depends how bad they want to get you and is it worth the effort how much do you have to give them through seizure and is it worth the investigation costs . even if your broke they will still come after a small time pedlar only if there are enough complaints on you then they are forced to do there job

Don't even use solenoids. Just put it on rails with an electric lock. Only unlocks when power is applied and can open much faster and quietly.

I used to fix these cars up in NY back in the day when I was in the game. The method I usually used was that I would put the “stash box” behind the passenger seat. When you turn on the defrost button and put a phone with a magnet up to a selected location on the dash, the back seat would open up. Funny how this looks and sounds like one of my old jobs from like 10 years back.

Years ago these were very popular amongst drug dealers/smugglers in Mexico. Every so often they would pop up in seized vehicles. There once was a case where this dude bought a BMW way under market value, got a friend of his to go across the border (Mexico-US) to go on a joyride and 'test' the car. They got detained on the border for a vehicle search, after proving he just bought the car, he got it hours later completely dismantled telling him if he wanted he could assemble it back on his own. Apparently it belonged to a smuggler and at the border they noticed the secret compartments with the x-ray machines they have.

Back in the 90's my best friend worked as a detective on the narcotics task force. He worked undercover as well and sometimes he would be driving cars that were confiscated from suspects charged with crimes. One day he pulled up with a custom Nissan Maxima painted in Pearl White, like a brick of good coke, it had a $5000 stereo system and a custom hiding spot like this. But in order to trigger the opening mechanism there needed to be a combination of things done, like (i'm making this up because I don't remember exact sequence) left turn signal on, air conditioning set to 75, engage parking brake, push passenger seat heater on, then turn radio on to 100.3.....Then the entire dash would slide open and there was enough room to fit a bunch of bricks.....either drugs or cash. The ONLY way they would have found this spot would have been with information from a CI, Confidential Informant, or snitch. It was like the wild west in the 90's in the east coast city where he worked. They would pay CI's with dope or money, it's crazy to think they confiscated drugs from dealers and would use them to buy information. Of course we had to filed test those drugs to see if the were any good. LOL, We didn't want to be handing out fake dope. Patrol cops in uniform aren't allowed to do drugs, but the task force guys that worked UC usually had a different set of rules they played by. I've seen some pretty crazy shit go on go on with cops in his unit.
