I think if you really listen to the older Cash Money albums, the instrumentation on the albums were alot more musically advanced than Cash Money of today. Mannie Fresh(old Cash Money producer who comes on @1:22) would sometimes use live instrumentation and drew influences from NO's Jazz scene. There were alot of REALLY Jazzy chords and funk/r&b beats on certain tracks and intros on the older Cash Money albums, that you just don't hear on today's current roster of Cash Money artist albums.

Not being funny but this was when Cash Money and the whole crew was still polishing up their whole vibe, beats and rhyme game, which you needed to have an acquired taste to listen to back then.

You didn't need anymore of an acquired taste to listen to Cash Money back then, anymore than you do now. They were selling Platinum albums on the regular back then also. It's just that now, with the new roster of cash money like Nicki, and all that Electronic Dance music that she and other Cash Money artist are doing, they seem more friendly on the ears to a certain demographic of people esp. Females ages 10-15 range. But back then, bling bling, ha, back that azz up, were all globally popular.

I hear you loud and clear bro! America is a mighty big place so when it comes to shifting records, it's the place to be in terms of many styles of music. For the most part many people unless you read magazines and new your hip hop, did not really know Cash Money or if they did, were not feeling what sometime sounded like arcade games music! One of the reasons I suppose, is Social Conditioning! People used to hearing a certain type of style of hip hop beats and production!

tru tru you got a very valid point. rhis tour alone grossed a lot of money and baby got them young and materialistic so their minds at the time was just about being flossed and jeweled out.

In terms of me using the words aquired taste, I'm not taliking about the volume of records sold but more to do with the sound of the production! Bling Bling, Back that azz up, as you say it depends on the demographics and that stuff was most Definitely not pumping out of any speakers in the Clubs or Cars back then! So in terms of globally popular, they were not popular here in England London! I like the way you broke it down but i was providing a London prospectus or perception of things. Peace!
