Thanks so much for your support,
The adventure continues.
Safe sailing.
Boat:
White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built.
The camera gear:
Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached.
Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera.
Editing:
Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff!
There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access.
Content:
I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining.
Comments and being at sea:
I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.

So you made it out of the marina, Yeah Baby!
The guy out fishing and you ask why, because he's adventurous just as you are.... you know that ! ! !
Those wynns do not miss a trick.soon as i heard they were on.i switched off.
Lovely to see Shaddy sailing again!!!
Congratulations, Barry! You give us landlocked souls a glimpse of the world we would never have otherwise. Be safe - keep the wind at your back.

White Shadow looks BEAUTIFUL !! Stay Safe & Fair Winds !!
Nice to see both.. Gone with the Wynns and Old Sea dog....
awesome to see shaddy back on the prowl
And there's me thinking the Wynns were more of a cocktail kind of couple 🍸🍹 Great to see you guys together. Magic moments on RUclips... ❤👍
Any video that has Mrs Wynn in it is a winner! Shadow has never looked fitter !
Sort of a Wynn Wynn!
White Shadow looking good, Always nice to get your boat nice and shiney :)
That was pretty easy to clean the winch
Bloody beautiful!!! Beers n cheers !!
rum shotgun, that’s a new one to me. The old Aussie trick is to use a TimTam and drink your coffee through it, having bitten off the opposite ends 😁👍
Congrat for both, She (SHADOW), want to see open sea, have a good sea and fair winds
I've been camping in NZ...the bird sounds in the morning are awe-inspiring. I'd love to do that again. Aaaah.
If I ever had the chance to visit New Zealand, I would probably never want to leave!
You gotta be happy with that winch, sounds brand new. lol
Yea....Baby............back on the Watta...................brilliant
Great to see the Seadog back in his natural habitat - out on the sea in pursuit of beer!
Nice update Barry. Boat is looking ship shape!!
White Shadow is looking great Barry and you're sounding well also. You hit a homerun with this great adventure.
Barry please make your anker locker water tight. The hatch has a big hole now.
Thank you for showing us around NZ a bit. Nice meeting the Wynns. And of course ...lovely seeing Shaddy where she belongs. Stay healthy, safe and sound, Nice video all around.
greetings from a should be sailor
Tried to tell him the same about the anchor locker... he'll regret that big hole!!
Good to see Shady out on the sea and that windlass is working! Greetings from Japan!
Respect to you Captain.
Captain, so glad to see you sailing again and showing us a bit of the beautiful coastline! Hope is is to sea soon!
Shady is looking great!
Fantastic upgrades and maintenance on the boat.
Woot woot thanks Barry for another great Old Seadog production. So cool to see you met up with Gone With The Wynns. Such awesome people like you are. Thanks for sharing!
Good to get your update, I follow you and the “Gone with the Winns” all the time. Really good stuff!
Wynns
you should give Sam Holmes sailing a try, if you like the old seadog you will like him
@@wyrdo1501 Thx for the recommendation. I also follow Ran sailing.
Another incredible sailor is Erik at No Bullshit Just Sailing.
@@goutvols103 Indeed, I also follow Erik at NBSJS. I also watch White spot pirates regularly.
Great vid, thanx seadog.
Nearly 100,000 subs, brilliant !!
nice to see you back to the Sea, Fair Winds Barry ;-)
Fabulous video and wonderful to see you and the boat back roaming free.
good to see an OC tender 👍
Looks like a different boat Baz......all the graft has paid off 👍
I think the kayak fisherman is my neighbour, he often paddles out in front of our houses to grab a feed. Great to see shaddy back out on the water. Cheers Barry.
Shadie looks brand new!
Get up to the Bay of Islands Barry. Have a mooch around Russel - 'The hellhole of the Pacific' - an old whaling station. I used to keep my yacht up there when I lived in AKL. Also eat some Feijoa and Tamarillo fruits - got to be done! Enjoy!
When I work on winches I cut a hole in the bottom of a cardboard box sized to fit snugly around the winch and then do all my maintenance with it installed.
Cheers Barry. 👍
Hallelujah ........Now I know who you remind me of.. Leonard Cohen. Just a bit of Vice..."Made in England", and scratching bottoms...PS..you forgot the blooming deck paint mate..LOL
Back in the saddle again!
Another fantastic video Barry.
Love watching your adventures.
Cheers
Pete
That cookie and a drink part - it is actually how we Aussies drink tea with Tim Tams. The trick is to do it quick but not too quick, as hot tea will start melting it. You will be taught once you arrive to Oz. ;)
Love your videos (and Wynns). Keep up the good work.
Cheers,
Hal
Your the best Berry!!
Whoopee…White Shadow “Out & About” for Trials after Refit 👍 Thank You, Barry 😎
About time you hoisted a sail old mate!!
LETS GO SAILING :)
Thank you so much for the video! Always enjoyed. I was brought up on an gill-net fishing boat on the Fraser river in the '50's and I love just about anything to do with boats. Your adventures stir memories.
Barry, you make great videos,, I suggest when you get the dinghy motor on the boat where you want it, please attach a line/cable to the motor and a nearby fitting on the boat, so you don't lose the motor overboard, if it should become losose on it's mounting bracket. Thanks
Show wadda shaddy! Good to see her out on the water again!⚓️⛵️⛵️⛵️⚓️
Enjoy video ! 😘⛵️😀 Mike from Missouri
Brilliant video Barry. Shaddie lookin good too. Good to see ya back on the water. 😎😎😎
I can't wait till I'm old and living on a sail boat. Great video Barry!
Hi Barry. Great to hear from you again. Looks like you are nearing the end of big jobs to do. Dare say there are a few inside. Don’t forget when you weigh anchor, to hose the chain. Great to sea Shaddy back out sailing, and you. Stay safe Barry.
goodto see you back at sea fella
Good to sea you out to see again ; }
Boat looks well!
Howdy from Montana Mr. Charlie. Your a good fella.
BEAUTIFUL PLACE !
Sea Dog...so awesome! Where next?
Great job… looking forward to the future “underway” videos!! Glad that I and others can support your efforts… Shaddie has never looked better!!
Your best video yet…👍
Barry, your a living legend 👍
Fair winds Barry, good to see you preparing for the next adventure
Anchors away & ahoy, mate. Lime & a scallop meat, bay rum.
🍋 🐚 🥃
Barry. looking great. Just one important thing - I did not see a snubber. It is imperative to install one. This greatly reduce tension and jerks to your windlass. Lots of Love. Capt. Jack
ermmm!... what's a snubber?
@@rcetvg11n72 become a sailor please
@@rcetvg11n72 this is line between anchor chain and the boat eliminating direct force to the windlass. A snubber is simply a length of line used to take up strain on the anchor chain and acts as a shock absorber.
I guess you missed the earlier shot of the chain hook and snubber line …
@@Kathikas1 possible better safe than sorry
Looking good Barry. When I have a Winch lock up I soak it in diesel. Saves me a bit of scrubbing as diesel is a wonderful solvent. You may want to give it a try.
White Shadow is looking awesome, great job on the refit. Now it’s time to get out of the marina and back to your sailing adventures ⛵️⛵️⛵️😊🥰
Greetings from Cape Town South Africa. Great to see you and White Shadow on the water again. Always love your videos. You are such a great inspiration!!!!
Lavida Amigo 🤟
15:22. Your mascot is definitely looking scared! Great stuff, getting out for a sail. 🤟
The old sea dog sailing....who would believe it. How long have you been docked
Good to see you getting the boat out for a stretch Barry.
Wonderful 🍺 🍕 💓
Great to see you on the water again Barry. Thanks for all the great vlogs, if I was rich I'd send you a load of dosh. So I can just send my best wishes, fair winds and happy days Barry
Awww that’s so cute seeing M’chana in the background 🤗
Great vid Sea Dog ⛵️
Awesome. Glad Shaddie is back in the water sailing as she's meant to!!
Love your old videos. Too much RUclipsrs filming RUclipsrs talking about RUclips.
Just look at this, I am looking 😃 love it . Glad you are having a good time, ooh you really work for it. Me living in Switzerland 🇨🇭 ooh how I miss the ocean 🌊, I am a Danish Dane living in Switzerland don’t know how I ended up here 😆
Denmark is a lovely country❤️ greetings from Norway!
One winch all winches. Best get kracken.
great video my friend, I'm in Madeira now, its so beautiful here
Well done on the refit Barry.
Great episode Dog. You look like you're having a ball down there.
Shady looks fantastic Barry!!! Great to see you back on the water⛵️🍕🍺
The dink's looking cleaner/shinier than I remember. Safe/secure winch stripping, which like all my better ideas I stole: Find/keep an old plastic bucket or washing-up bowl and cut a hole in the bottom of it, slightly larger than the sheet winch, place the bowl over the winch, secure it with a bit of duck tape and it'll catch any displaced springs/pawls/bearings when you're doing the strip down and reassembly.
Can you purchase a hitch strong enough to hoist the engine and lock in place out of the way? Kayak fishing has gotten very popular and so has Sea doo fishing, Peace.
great job! great editing and story telling!
I was just thinking of you and I saw this glad you guys doing well yI’ll seadog
It touches me that while we are here doing our things and watching your videos once a week, you are in the other side of the planet living on a boat 100% of the time.
The best sailing channel. I just missed beer and pizza.
Fantastic! Good on you, Barry!
Great Channel, old , greetings Froom colombia south america, amigo
