    Last month marked 93 years since Pan American World Airways was first founded. The airline would go on to shake up the global aviation industry, leaving a legacy that is still talked about today. However, despite being a cultural icon for much of the 20th century, the carrier’s life was eventually cut short before it could celebrate its 65th birthday.

    Pan Am has a long and rich history that cannot be covered in 8 minutes. It’s a good short recap but there were many other factors besides The Carter administration’s deregulation to say is the cause of the downfall of Pan Am.

      Swagath Shetty I am a youtuber myself and the advertisers come to you, not the other way around. You can't just ask a company "I want to make a sponsored video about your product / company, give me money." The company must come up with the initiative and choose a youtuber themselves. In addition, the sponsor will support this channel very strongly through this short advertisement. This allows simple flying to make even better FREE videos for you. I make videos about video game with robots, but I've already had two sponsor proposals from companies that have nothing to do with robots.

      @@robinvanlooy294 I worked in marketing for some time. There is nothing to stop you from approaching companies yourself. It might take a while to get a partner (depending on the amount of followers), but chances are that it's the right one. Most companies themselves prefer adverts through the right channels. Otherwise it's wasted money.

    It was an amazing airline, but then again, it was one of the few back then. What I think most people can't appreciate now was the service. Of course, you paid for it and then again you pay for quality. I remember flying their 747 over the Atlantic and even in the US on domestic flights. I also flew on their DC8s and 707s. The airline that comes the closest to Pan Am and TWA, at least used to -- I haven't flown them in a few years, was Virgin Atlantic. I miss that logo. It was beautiful to see those plan land.

      We just lost Virgin Australia too. It's really bad when a Billionaire like Branson demands our Government bail the airline out. He's filthy rich so he should be able to do it. He runs his airline as a not-for-profit concern. If he ran it as a normal business, it would have made enough money for him to weather the storm. Branson is NOT a great philanthropist as he claims.

    I’m a little disappointed you didn’t mention The buying of national airlines or the sale of the Pacific roots, IMO pan Am would’ve been able to survive till the 2000s if One of the two hadn’t happened.

    • @hualani6785
      @hualani6785 Год назад

      terrible video, didn't mention building of tarmac airfields around the globe (from JuanTrippes own pocket, unlike war profiter HHughes); theres nothing here but a read off of the overly published "Pan Am Firsts"- found in every major city on almost every continent(excluding Artic/Antartic) around the globe. Who mapped out long haul air routes?, built the Civil Aviation Authority(pre FAA)? BoeingCorp?; Negotiated entry & exit landing points, nation by nation? etc etc.. No, its true you cannot overview pioneering Aviation in 8 minutes for 60years, albeit the highlights/lowlights here are hardly the most influential ones, to which PanAm contributed. There's a plethora of reasons world leaders waited in line to consult with Juan Trippe in the 1930s-1960s ahead of political leaders. Very few persons in international community had global/international insights that Trippe had in those decades, the concepts of globalization didn't arise commonly until long after Trippes death, excepting in his minds eye, and those fortunate enough to share with his intelligent foresight. Pan Am, gone, but for aviation historians, not at all forgotten nor under estimated for its influence on modern aviation.

    Last year I bought Sky Gods as an audiobook, but it’s always disappointing me that there’s no equivalent for TWA. I recognize the TWA was never as large but it’s end seems like it would be more interesting, and less the fault of incompetent management than external raiders.

    You need to make a key factual correction.
    The first transatlantic passenger flight final North American departure point was NOT in the US but Botwood, Newfoundland. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botwood).
    Its first European landing point was Foynes, Ireland (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foynes) and the flight continued onto Southhampton.
    The Newfoundland site was selected by no other than Charles Lindbergh!
    Service to Lisbon followed later...
