Excellent video. How long does the mixed solution stay good (at room temperature) for?

The stock solutions A & B have a long shelf life (months at room temperature), but once the two are combined, the mixed solution is only good for about 24 hours.

Once you've coated your paper, how long can you store it before exposung it to sunlight for it to still work? (Keeping it in a dark box)

If stored in a dry dark place, it should last at least several weeks or months. It may oxidize and start turning blue, but should still work well (just may require a longer rinse). If the environment is humid or hot, that may shorten the shelf life of the coated paper. Hope this helps!

Can you use transparency sheets like you would use for an overhead project for creating the negatives?

They should last months, longer if refrigerated.

I have a question about cyanotype prints.. I’d like to know if you need to seal these prints with anything so that they don’t fade over time. If so, what do you use?

    • @jacquardproducts

No, that is generally not necessary with cyanotype. But if you would like to seal and protect your prints, Dorland's Wax works beautifully:

If your prints are fading over time, that usually indicates that you should be using a different paper. But if fading does occur, prints can usually be restored to their original deep blue color by submerging in a dilute bath of hydrogen peroxide.

@@jacquardproducts I also have a question: Does it also not fade without sealing it if you do it on fabric and is this wash proof like when you put this on a regular T-shirt will it last or do I need to seal it somehow?

@@stayfresh4489 cyanotype on wearable fabrics is prone to fading and discoloring when washing. To avoid these issues, use a delicate detergent and only wash in cold water. This one reason we offer SolarFast dyes. SolarFast is similar to cyanotype in process and results, but it is completely permanent and washfast on fabric, and can be laundered normally.
