Just watched again after a few beers. The smile on my face is as wide as ever after 30 or so years. Dime still lives if we watch this. Forever, stronger than all.
Domination....in Russia...I am gonna say it....the most incredible metal live performance ever....everything clicked, the sound was right, the energy was off the reservation.......Dime is the best heavy guitarist ever......period. Phil gave the fuel to the fire. Drove the crowd to a frenzy like never seen...a true front man....Vinnie drove the beat through your back, and Rex did what a bass player should......drive the rhythm...the sum of all parts was incredible...I wISH I COULD HAVE BEEN THERE.
That concert was total madness. The month before, high officials of the USSR carry out a violent coup attempt that ended with riots and streets full of tanks, despite the turmoil across Russia, the government decides to send military personnel to maintain order at the festival, so tempers were really fired. You can see it clearly while they were playing Primal Concrete Sledge
got kicked out of a show in Houston after receiving a citation by cops inside. snuck back in..was recognized by security, ran over a few people trying to run but got caught. was kicked out again after receiving another citation. snuck back in on the other side of arena and went to my seat and partied my ass off. i only missed 35 mins of the show. that's metal
I don't know if people really realize the significance of that concert in Russia... GENERATIONS of living behind the iron curtain and almost overnight they have American Metal melting their faces live and in the flesh.... crazy shit
BriGuy Sixty2 Yep, that's why most of the bands played for free or at extremely low cost because those people weren't even aloud to listen to Metal. Everything had to be underground. So, once the "curtain" came down, they invited bands over to play. They probably started regretting that once they had to pull the Army and everyone else out to keep these Rabid kids back! Lol! In my opinion, mind u I'm a HUGE Pantera and Phil Anselmo fan, this is the best prefomance of all time out of ANY band! Best wishes everyone! *I still love and adore you, Phil!*

I had the pleasure of Meeting Dimebag after the Manchester, UK. date of the "Far Beyond Driven" tour. Top bloke, very humble and very friendly. Gone, but not forgotten. RIP.
I was fortunate in Life to be able to say we opened up for these Gods of Vulgar Driven Metal at Hammerjack's outside of Baltimore (Now raized to the ground) in 1990. Got to hang with them backstage, and smoked more weed than even me. All because we won a "Battle of The Bands" thing in DC.... It's a memory I'll live forever!! RIP Darrell Abbott and Hammerjack's (It was huge!!)
Mark Cob me to on the Cowboys tour. We Were setting up gear and this little punk rock kid walks up asks if we were The Papsmear on speed metal hell 3 I say yes he starts singing Die Killing the song on the comp. He helps us load our gear I buy him a beer.later that night we get done playing Pantera starts and wtf that kid that helped with our gear was phil.
Drugs and alcohol made more damage on his vocals than his vocal style did 'cause if he did cared about his vocal chords health he would be much healthier but he drank too much and i heard that he survived clinic death when he overdosed with heroin and that sucks man.
Djordje Djordjevic Listen to DOWN's Learn From This Mistake. Its Phil's regrets about heroin and fucking up. Yeah, he died. But hes back now in full force.
I honestly think it's mainly the years and years of chain-smoking cigarettes along with screaming full-force. The vocal chords never had a chance to repair so he's lowered his range only to one or two octaves and it's really harsh. Basically blew out his voice over 25 years of abuse. But then again that's pretty metal. I miss his voice in 1996; he could still sing relatively high notes (or scream them, rather) but not the falsetto range he had on Cowboys from Hell. Did just enough whiskey and smoking to give it a harsher edge, but not blow out his range completely like now. Easy for me to judge from the armchair of a casual critic.
If i could have 1million dollars or be able to go back in time to hang out with these guys on tour, i wouldn't even think about it. Hand me my time machine.

Man I feel so honored and blessed to have lived through the Pantera Era when they flew the flag of metal high and hard as record companies tried to shove grunge down our throats! Pantera came out swinging with Cowboys From Hell and just kept their foot on the gas! Pantera made sure that the world knew that no matter what you do, YOU CAN'T KILL METAL! Heavy Metal will be here forever, it adapts and evolves and not a single person can disagree with the fact that Pantera influenced an entire generation of Metal musicians and inspired so many people to be real and to live your lives! I was lucky enough to bear witness to the greatness of this band. I miss Dime so much, his laugh, his pranks, but most of all him as a human being. He was arguably one of the greatest guitarists to ever walk the face of the earth and those of us lucky enough to be the right age at the right time got to witness the most heavy, bad ass band of all time take over the music scene and take metal to the mainstream like it never had been before! The 90's was a strange decade outside of Metal, other forms of music tried to take over, R&B, Hip-Hop, Rap, Pop, some of the hair-bands still held on (and still are LOL) but Pantera changed the game forever. Thanks to Phil, Vinnie Paul, Rex and most of all, the late, great, virtuoso, the riff king himself, Darrell "Dimebag Abbott! Rest in Piece Brother Dime, we miss you so much. What a fucking ride this was, blessed and honored to be a fan and witness their greatness. \m/ >.< \m/
Those were just magical times, where you can see the true bond and friendship between the guys and reminds me of my childhood friends when things were just crazy fun times and we were literally like brothers who had each others backs and looked out for one another.
